I believe they might relock it with an update.
If the hotspot on your phone works it should work here to. (Unless your perhaps using CDMA?)

Actually my phone service is TMobile... It has hotspot

Disable updates:

Install ssh. GIYF

Next, you need to enable SSH on the hotspot. Connect to the hotspot's wifi (no internet connection is required on the Hotspot). Go to http://mobile.hotspot/webpst/service_setting.html (enter password frk@r717 if prompted). Enable SSH and Apply.

Then open a command prompt in Windows. Type:

Code: [Select]

ssh -l root mobile.hotspotIf it asks you if you are sure that you want to continue connecting, type yes and press enter. It will prompt you for the root password, which is frk9x07

You are now logged in with root. At this prompt, type:

Code: [Select]

cd /data/configsType:

Code: [Select]

vi mobileap_cfg.xml
Press the down arrow until you are about 75% down the file. You are looking for a block of data between <UpdateFromServer> and </UpdateFromServer>
You will see <Enable>1</Enable>
To allow typing, press the INSERT key on your keyboard. Change the 1 to a 0
You will also see a <CheckUrl> and </CheckUrl>

Change what is between to a non existent address, such as https://127.0.0.1/noupdatesallowed.php

Now to save this file, you will press the ESCAPE key and type: :w
Then press enter. Note that is a colon followed by a w.
To exit the editor, type: :x
Then press enter. You will return to the root prompt. Type: reboot

You are done. The device will no longer update.

Unlock:

Type in 192.168.0.1 in your browser
Go to setting page. Browser prompts for password. type "admin"
Under Settings > Mobile Network > SIM – scroll down to Carrier Unlock
Paste in your 8 digit hex code and your done!

Worked! I did the code in 2 seporate lines... Unsure if that's what helped but it says it's unlocked.
What's the gain from stopping updates?
Also, even though it says unlocked, I tried to put in my normal phone sim and it still doesn't work. Does that make sense? It has to be a hotspot sim?

What terminal are you using?

Any ideas? Having same issue. I actually got it not to say the -n error (by taking out the space btwn export and imei) but that code didn't work either.

It did generate some code, but that one didn't work.

Update.  After many back and forth with this place they always just ended the conversation that give it 2 more weeks. After speaking to the irs seems like there was a possible id theft alert. I cleared that up with them and few weeks later I finally received my check!

What num did you use to get to irs? I'm also having issues...
