"In that time frame"? Will be in Hawaii for almost 2 weeks, 8 full travel days not counting Shabbos or arrival/departure days.
Yes, I understood your time frame. Perfect for the BI, unless there are specific things you want to do on another island.  The two main things people here like to do on Maui, sunrise on Haleakala and RTH, are not exactly kid-friendly, so why shlep there, when just about everything else can be seen/done on the BI?  Same with Kauai, but even more so.

I've spent about 2 and 1/2 months on the BI over the years (less on the other islands), always finding new/fun things to do with the kiddos.

We've done the island-hopping vacations, and had a great time, but the time we stayed for almost two full weeks on the BI, just moving between Kona and Hilo was the most idyllic.

So it's decided. We are going to Hawaii for January [Sunday-Thursday morning, giving us 8 full days to roam] with a 2 year old.

Just need help in deciding which 2 islands to go to and only have 24-72 hours to decide.

Let the ideas flow. Thank you
This has been discussed 24-72 times in this thread already, but in that time frame, I'd just go to the BI (moving between Hilo and Kona).  Really want a second island, spend a night in HNL on the way to the BI and go to Pearl Harbor.

I've been to the BI 3 times with a 2 year old.  Absolutely recommend.  There are plenty BI TRs with kids on here for you to peruse.

To simplify things, fly into and out of ITO.

If flying interisland on Hawaiian Airlines out of OGG/LIH, how much before the flight should I be at airport if have precheck/global entry? Wondering if can make the 9pm flight after Shabbos if over around 730pm.

On the assumption it's not doable, is a 4:30pm interisland arrival into LIH on erev shabbos too close for a 6:30pm sunset (candle lighting 6pm ish)? would stay at Marriot coconut beach (6.7 miles from airport) and take Uber/taxi.
Once did something similar to your first option and I absolutely would not want to do it again.  Don't think we had PreCheck back then, but the hold up was at check-in.  We were flying J(?) so were able to use the Priority lane, and made it to the gate just as they started boarding.  Your other option is even worse.

Not to say these aren't doable, but a Hawaiian vacation is usually to decrease stress, not increase it.

so i should just park myself in the airport and wait 2 days till my flight out?
You said you wanted to go dogsledding.  I gave you a resource where you can find info on that as well as on some other things you can do in November, but sure, parking yourself at the airport is definitely a valid alternative.

Try calling.  If that doesn't work, contact the HNL Chabad.

Tried emailing and texting Chabad a number of times (Maui) with no response. Is this normal?
Which one?

besides google maps and waze wont give me travel times in btwn most places, they just say directions not available
That's because there are very few roads, and you most likely can not drive the route you are looking for.  Also, most touristy things are closed by Nov.

There are some great TRs on this site, plus check out
Did you check out

Thanks but looking more in the middle of US or not the West Coast per say unless there is something closer to Redwood or Oregon that makes sense.
Nearish Redwood is Lassen Volcanic and Crater Lake.  Both nice options.  Did the three as a small road trip one year.

As an aside, since you mentioned Redwood, Redwood is actually farther north than NYC.

Planning on doing Marriott 5th night free as my thinking is to stay on island #1 from Sun-Sun. Just need to decide which should Island should that be. Am currently leaning towards Kauai, as accommodations seem to be cheaper than Maui + can stay right near Chabad for Shabbos meal/davening (Courtyard at Coconut Beach).

But the few dollars I might save + Shabbos meal/minyan is not enough reason to make definitive choice unless it's really a case of "Six Of One, A Half Dozen Of The Other".
At this point it sounds like you want someone to make the decision for you.  Neither option is significantly better than the other, but might depend on where you plan to stay on Maui.

What's your opinion?
Did you really think GrubHub was going to take an $18 loss because someone else gave you the wrong type of rice?

Its been a loooong time since I traveled with an infant:)

1) Do I have to notify gate that i have infant/lap child or can I just board ? (No luggage)
2) Will gate check if extra available seat to allow me to bring car seat on airplane, (they used to always allow , just dunno if things changed?

1) baby shouldn't be allowed past security without boarding pass in their name
2) what is the question?

Thank you.
You mean like this?
More like this:
where the links in the wiki are to posts within the thread, rather than multiple threads.

@Dan @jj1000 @Something Fishy  may be able to help.

Would love to see some photos from your trips.  One of my travel goals is also to see all 61 National Parks (at 30 now).

It's clear you've put a lot of time into writing your TRs, with a consistent formula that's easy to follow, but is it possible to consolidate, perhaps by putting separate locations of a trip as separate posts on a single thread.  I'm sure the admins can help.

General Discussion / Re: Where were you on September 11, 2001?

Was home watching TV, when the breaking news came on.

I had plans to meet friends to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to our favorite Borders book store, at the WTC.

My current neighbor was a high-powered broker working on one of the high floors, got slammed into a wall when the plane hit, lost coworkers/friends.  To this day she doesn't like to talk about it.
