https://www.the-sun.com/news/958863/african-american-hair-products-locked-up-white-people/

So the stores claimed they only lock up products that have had a high incidence of theft in the past. Just happens to be that those products are all African-American hair products and not white ones. Is that racist or realist? Should they be unlocking these items just to treat everyone equally even though they know they will suffer losses in this category? Is that fair? How far should social justice go?

Shtickle Golus vibes how the oilams so heartbroken. Klal Yisroel in pain needs our sympathy and support more
Itís symptomatic of the golus we are in. Same for those tuning in to Rush or Hannity for hours every day, or lining up at the Trump events. (Many of my political views happen to lean conservative by the way). And there are countless other examples of areas where frum Jews have lost sight of who we are, and that we are on a different trajectory than those around us, as talented as they may be. We are on a journey that spans thousands of years, and scores of host countries and cultures, on a path from Matan Torah to the final geulah. Anyone cognizant of this can not possibly identify in a personal way with the fleeting culture and company surrounding us that will all too soon fade into the forgotten past as surely as the scores of other proud cultures we have outlasted have. Our present environment, as grateful as we are to this malchus shel chessed, is but another brief encounter in our long journey that connects us with eternity.

 Chazal tell us
ותמלא הארץ אותם. שנתמלאו בתי טרטיאות ובתי קרקסיאות מהם, מיד גזרו עליהם לרוש מן המטה, שנאמר ותמלא הארץ אותם
In Egypt, the prototype of all future golus, it was at the point that the Jews started entering the theaters and places of entertainment, identifying with the Egyptian culture, that Hashem caused the Egyptians to turn on Klal Yisrael. As one of the pre-war gedolim once said:
והוצאתי אתכם מתחת סבלות מצרים
When they could no longer bear being part of the culture of mitzrayim
that is the point that they were ready to be redeemed.Itís sad, but simply a symptom of where many of us are holding

Source?
The great Chassidic Masters did this all the time.
I meant מגלה פנים בתורה שלא כהלכה but maybe if it is clear to everyone that it is a takeoff on the possuk and not intended to refer to פשט that would not apply?

It's not bizarre at all to give different meanings to a possuk in the context of a drush or a song even without a midrash.

Do you also think it's bizarre that MBD sings for 6 minutes about Yosef looking for his brothers?

Could not disagree more. To unilaterally give ones own meaning to a possuk to make a song without a medrash or authentic mekor as a basis for doing so is censured by Chazal in the strongest terms.

From his very first album, Avraham Fried has been open about how he uses his music to convey a message. Many of his songs come from him taking a possuk, maamer chazal, or concept to a songwriter to write a song about. He used to pull out a chumash at concerts to read the pesukim he was singing. The source is everything.

But sure, I'll take your word that he's totally ignorant about the title track of one of his best albums.

Heís not ignorant. There is a medrash that darshens it to refer to Shem the son of Noach building the Teiva. But since the simple meaning and most mefarshim learn it as referring to collaborating over the construction of Avoda Zara, itís still a somewhat bizarre song to have everyone singing.

I donít want to be mean or anything, but the composerís ameratzus is sometimes a factor. He might have likes the way ďhey heyĒ sounds.

Bingo. If בן בג בג or בן הי הי were commonplace names like בן אברהם or something thereís no way they ever would have made it into a song. Same goes for the מימרות like יבא ידיד בן ידיד ויבנה ידיד etc.

How about איש את רעהו יעזורו ולאחיו יאמר חזק, which according to the context and simple meaning of the possuk and most meforshim is referring to people strategizing to build an avoda Zara?!

Good lord. http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=tongue+in+cheek

As I said before, the letter conflates multiple issues. Therefore it's not effective.

Good night sir.

After reading this thread I have to say the letter writer missed the main issue: social media. Before the days of WhatsApp and online forums, only yentas and those with their noses in everyone elseís business would know or care what someone else in a different social circle spent on his purim party. Today itís everyone elseís business to discuss, analyze , and write letters to complain about. I wish it were still the 1990ís so I would have my 20 wasted minutes back.
