Credit Cards / Re: Credit Card Retention Bonuses
« on: August 06, 2013, 09:13:34 PM »
I got 95 statement credit (canceling out the the 95 annual fee) and an offer of 750 bonus miles for each month I spend $750 for next 16 months with Citi aa visa. I didn't spend much beyond the amount needed to clear the sign up bonus.
I got 5000 BA avios but will have to pay the $95 yearly fee. I spent less than 5k over the year. I really don't need the card, when should I cancel it?

Got rejected when asking for retention bonus with chase sapphire and amex gold business. I've read sapphire is hard to come by, but i was shocked by the amex gold rejection, quickly decided to huca when things weren't going well, but haven't yet.

Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Re: Las Vegas Master Thread

Fyi. There are 2 routes to get to the airport from the strip.. A uses local roads and is quicker, B uses the highway (and tunnel) and takes longer. Vegas cabs are known to take the longer/tunnel route in order to make a few extra dollars (This practice has become so common and is referred to as long-hauling.) Tell your driver "No tunnels, take the side streets/quick way"

Just want to confirm that I successfully took the flight with no mention of the missing part.

Credit Cards / BA Companion
« on: February 28, 2013, 07:10:12 AM »
My dad spent 30k on his BA card and now has a companian pass in his BA miles account. Last month he closed his BA credit card (in order to get approved for new cards). Will he have problems redeeming his pass? Does it help that its already in his BA miles account? Should he "uncancel" the BA CC? Thanks for the help.

Up In The Air / Missed leg on first half of round trip flight
« on: February 14, 2013, 08:36:40 PM »
I bought a round trip ticket on alitalia

Italy-Jfk, jfk-phl in Dec 2012
phl-jfk, jfk-italy, march 2013

In december, when i took my flight, I got off at jfk and didnt take the jfk-phl leg. I did so as I was unwell and went to see a doctor (who would be happy to vouch for me) in nyc. I've now become aware that this cause my ticket to be invalid. I've called into aliatia to re-confirm my ticket and all appears to be fine. Should I have any cause for concern? Should i call alitalia and admit that I skipped the flight -but i had a legit reason- or should i bank on slipping through the cracks, and why bring it up if no-one at alitalia has to me first?

My friend booked a hotel for his stay in Israel (that he got through the El-al mistake fare's for $360 a ticket of so!). He booked it at Learnardo Inn Hotel on Vilnai 4. He's heard that it's in an arab neighbourhood, but looking at google maps, it looks jewish. Can anyone confirm that it's in safe/jewish neighbourhoods?

On The Road / Re: Advice on Hotwire Hot rate for Car Rental
« on: January 04, 2013, 11:01:01 AM »
I've used it before with no problems. Only downside is that you have to prepay, so if there is a chance you will need to make changes (or might not need the car) obviously don't use them. Otherwise, hotwire is great and def use them if you can get a great price. (Priceline name your own price is very good for car rentals too.)

u couldnt show them the card?

Showed them the card, did my best job trying to convince attendant, but no luck. On the other hand, I used a previous time (w/o paying for trip on cc) and showed aa cc and didn't have to pay, so def ymmv. But to be sure use an aa cc if possible.

How did they you didn't use the card to.purchase the ticket?

Flew with ba miles on aa jfk-yyz (4500 miles +$2.50). I put the 2.50 on a non a/a card. When i got to JFK, they were able to see i hadn't used the AA card and therefore they charged me $25 for baggage :(

I've tried to understand the thread on FT about tricking fares, and I've gotten a beginners understanding but they talk in code and its difficult to understand. Can anyone offer me some help? What is the "13 miler"?
