Looking for a getaway from east coast in August for me and wife, would be nice if resort has private pools or perhaps just a great island with villa rentals. Just want 3-4 days and direct flights from NYC area

The best beach and island for scuba diving is probably the famous Fernando de Noronha off the coast of Recife in Brazil.

Thanks a lot... Is the diving there good this time of year? is it off season?

Also any other suggestions for adventure? how do you suppose I should do it? how many days where if I have about 7 or so

Any other spots not worth missing? amazon? how about shabbos whats best bet for nice shabbos out of big cities? (something thai style maybe)?!

Need some help planning a trip beginning of July.

I have 8 days to spend in brazil and argentina.... looking for some help with itinerary suggestions... Never been and don't know S. America at all. we want Rio, and buenos aires to end the trip with good food.. but in-between not 100% sure.. We're not interested in S. Paolo, we like more adventure and scenic places.. Shabbos we would like to go off the beaten path where we can find some adventure sports or some other fun, if there are such places with chabad houses...

Not sure we want to spend 2-3 days at falls without much else to do.. we're leaving families behind so we're looking to do the type of things you can't do with kids..

Any nice islands in July? places we can rent ATV's or bikes? Scuba would be great (we're licensed)...

Noticed some people had some trip reports but figured would be helpful opening a new master thread...

I have a 20 hour stop over.. curious as to whats recommended.. I'm definitely going for some early morning skiing...  looking for a safe market to buy some purim costumes.. what else is really neat?

What else is recommeded? land at 8am and leave at 4am... flying EK first (4 legs) happy to hear some feedback as well how the meals are... I'm on 2 380s and 2 777's

Has anyone Jewish looking gone? Thanks

Credit Cards / Some help reaching spending threshold - are any of these risky?

Ok, So I recently got approved for two citi cards and amex platinum.

Have some spending plans, wanted to check if any of them are risky.

1. my landlord is willing to take rent from me using paypal, can I send him $1400 through paypal using my Citi card? Will citi flag it? is it risky? will it give them reason to look into my finances? (how much percent do I lose?)

2. I want to order 2 unlocked iphones and ipad mini from apple. want to charge it to my new amex (I have other amexes with them for long time) total cost about $2000, is there any risk that it's high unusual spend that I have to worry about? FR? I would ship to different address but call amex in advance to add it as additional address.

Implying more than one fam member? definitely not the case.. never worked for me traveling with spouse and a couple kids.. can never enter, as I'm only allowed one guest

For the second time this month flew business with United and they didn't have my kosher meal. First time was from ICN to SFO and now from FRA - ORD..

First time they gave me an appreciation card which I couldn't get to work so I emailed them and got 10k miles. This time the appreciation card works offering me 7k or $150 voucher..

What do you think? fair?

Just Shmooze / Challah Board - Any good suggestions?

The cheap Chinese knives keep breaking, the boards get messy and don't last.. the nicest onces I guess are the glass but they get wet or crumbs under and it's impossible to clean (or you clean and it gets rusty or something)

Anyone have any good suggestions? looking for something top quality that will last and is nice..

I just didn't care for the city. too big for my liking, lacking in culture.. didn't feel very different from lots of other  western cities/capitals.. huge streets, clean for the most part, found it kinda boring. I enjoyed HK more.. but just my personal preference.

Went to the Silk market, found it to be a total waste of time, my memories from Shenzhen 10 years ago were much better. Tiananmen square and forbidden city didn't catch my eye..

I highly recommend Southeastern asia over beijing.. (Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam..)

personally very disappointed with beijing.. spent a day there and saw the great wall.. otherwise I was quite happy I didn't stay there any longer... much prefer HK, anywhere in Thailand or vietnam...

Had a great trip in LA, no sun... but who cares...

MEXIKOSHER! WOW! definitely right up my alley. Ask them to recommend which salsas are good, I took three.. Burrito is best I think.

Also Bodhi the Vegan Thai takeout was really good, miss that place.. great salad, great noodles.. awesome spring rolls.. I never thought a vegan place can be decent, but totally changed my mind. I actually liked their mock beef and chicken. Salad was super refreshing with lots of herbs (beed salad..)

Kids place in pasadena is worth a visit for people with young kids.

Also new indoor playground opened at Melrose and highland. not bad. (it's not big but kinda trendy with some neat little things.

my personal opinion about BKK, stay away.. I've been to Thailand many times (last time about 2 weeks ago) and my biggest mistake was wasting time there once..

Depending on when you arrive, if you must stay the night I would even suggest staying around the airport and saving the ride into the city.. Aside from Chabad restaurant, and some awesome malls, not much you can't see elsewhere, and it's just super hot + humid, and very crowded, busy etc..

really don't care for it.

Ho Chi Minh on the other hand.... (I don't hate all big cities..)
