Kalalau trail is closed for at least a few months can be as long as a year.

That was going to be our day 1 activity, I think we are just going to have to be flexible on our whole itinerary.

Well getting a convertible will surely solve that problem...

A wrangler has pieces that just pop off, a convertible doesnt just pry open....

Only reason to have an SUV is for additional Waimea hiking and views.
Otherwise a convertible is great.

Thats the reason we ended up going for the convertible, also heard there are some theft problems with a wrangler.

Thankfully i got the Jeep Wrangler

I decided to go for the convertible after debating it for a while.....   Is there anything open on the south shore right now?  How are you spending the time right now?

Going to Kuaia in just under 3 months and looking to do a jack harter doors off helicopter tour.  How far in advance should I book it, or should I wait to see what the weather is like?

Up In The Air / Re: AA Award Flights

Im sure no one will want a random kid sitting next to them and they will switch seats with you in a heartbeat

Thats true, but you need 2 different people to switch, and in this case they would need two people in the same row to give up both the aisle and window seat for a middle seat.

Americans advice was to not select seats at all and that the computer would assign us seats 72 hours before the flight, but what if the flight is completely booked and there are no open rows?

Booked award flights from JFK to LAX, all the seats are open, but they would only allow me to book the middle seats. I am traveling with a 2 yr old and 4 yr old so that obviously wont work.  When I called they told me they cant change it, and that the system will figure this out 72 hours before the flight and will get us 3 seats together.

This makes me super nervous, any ideas?

Up In The Air / Multi-leg flight using AA miles
« on: July 18, 2017, 01:55:52 PM »
Im a bit of a noob on these forums so please forgive if this information is elsewhere but I could not find it.

We are looking to do a multi leg trip using AA miles.  We would fly from NY to LA (4 tickets) and spend a weekend there, we would then leave our kids with the in-laws and fly to Hawaii (2 tickets).  On the return trip, once again we would fly to LA (2 tickets), spend the weekend and then fly back to NY (4 tickets). American told us that if you leave the airport you have to book the flights as separate flights instead of as a layover.  Is there any way around this?  It would cost us an extra 90k miles if we have to book the 2 tickets to Hawaii as a separate booking.

What does the lead have to do with the pencil?!?
When I use up the lead which comes in the zebra package, I put in some other companies lead and you will always have a time where the lead cracks!
A pen is much different where as some are gel pens and some fine point and...

I am not saying Zebra pencils are any better.  But try a Kuru Toga pencil 0.5 mm (only $5 on Amazon) it has an internal mechanism that rotates the lead every time you pick up the pencil from the paper.  This keeps the tip always sharp and reduces lead breakage.  For somebody who uses a pencil daily, I swear by this pencil.  During normal use the lead doesnt break (which reduces the amount of lead you use), and you never have to worry about a blunt point.

All I am saying is, dont mock pencils until you actually use them and understand them.  A quality pencil makes a huge difference.

A pencil is a pencil, but the pens are amazingly smooth.

This makes me cringe, there are many different calibers of pencils, and you should be ashamed of yourself.  Dont make a statement like that until you try a quality pencil.  Yes the writing comes out similar (though the same applies to pens) but on a good pencil, the lead rarely breaks.

Up In The Air / Southwest diverted and then cancelled flight
« on: December 29, 2015, 12:12:12 PM »
My wife just flew Southwest yesterday from LGA to MDW (flight 1598).  They were diverted to Louisville, KY (SDF) due to weather and when they were cleared to re-board and continue the flight the Southwest crew was over their hours and they couldnt find another crew to finish the flight.  Therefore Southwest cancelled their flight midway through and didnt provide any support to the passengers now stranded in Louisville, and instead encouraged them to find alternative modes of transportation as the next flight out to MDW (on Southwest) was not going to be for 3 days on 12/31.

After waiting around for 7 hours, my wife was finally able to split a rental car with another family and drive the remaining distance to chicago. (i should also note that there were no renatl cars available, they only got this one because the other family agreed to return it to the Hertz in Louisville.)

We have not received any communication from Southwest and are quite shocked and the complete lack of support after stranding her in another city.  Is there anything we should be doing at the moment to ensure we are compensated appropriately?

This is the current flight status on Southwest's website
