Credit Cards / Re: Credit Card Retention Bonuses
« on: January 07, 2021, 04:19:21 PM »
It's the standard for the aspire. The best is to use all the credits for 2021 and the annual certificate, then downgrade to surpass, spend $15k, get another night, and wait for an upgrade offer.
Problem is finding a way to use the $250 resort credit right now before downgrading

How did you phrase this request?
From my experience, it really depends on what "retention offers" they see attached to your account. you just need to ask.
These offers are available or renew multriple times a year. good time to ask is end of yera, beggining of year or after AF posts.

I phrased it something like: due to Covid, the travel benefits of the card don't really give much value. I'm considering downgrading or canceling... are there any courtesy credits or retention offers available for me before I do that?

FYI, these were on my wife's account. I had no such luck with my own Hilton Aspire and Biz Plat cards

I did it 2018-2020. Didn't get a popup on the Plat card I just got approved for yesterday.
Same with P2.
Dan, should I have any concern if doing this for the $250 Hilton resort credit?

Some claim I'm already on shaky ground just for the fact that I have the Fyf Aspire

P.S.
Sorry for not using your referral link. Couldn't resist the FYF.
I think I've made amends with all my other cards I got using your links...

So you think its safe to apply for a Platinum in Dec 2020, and cancel Jan 2022 immediately after receiving $200 reimbursement for 2022 calendar year? Even if they dont shut down, they will likely clawback, or give a pop up when you apply for your next card.
this is exactly what Dan is suggesting  to do here when he says:

If you apply for the AMEX Hilton Aspire Card now you can get $250 in airline fee credit by 12/31/20, $250 in airline fee credit in 2021, and $250 in airline fee credit in January 2022 all during your first cardmembership year before your next annual fee is due!

That's what I plan doing, specifically for the anniversary night. The resort credit was already used and it's a bonus. If it's clawed back, it was still worth it.
I'm not that worried about the actual clawback. More worried about my account possibly being flagged or even shut down.

Jan will be my 3rd cycle but I actually didn't even use the credits in 2019 so I only used it in 2020.

Wait to get the new anniversary night, spend the $250 on airline and the $250 on hilton resort, then downgrade to the surpass, spend $15k for another night. You can wait for an upgrade offer after.
Thanks. Is there clawback risk? see below regarding Resort credit
Be careful of this..

AF posted last statement which is due on the 1st. Apparently,  if I cancel/downgrade today I'd be refunded a prorated $430.
Is it worth keeping for a few more weeks to spend the $250 airline credit or is that a clawback risk (like the new language they added regarding the $250 resort credit)

AF hit on both our fyf Aspire cards. Gonna downgrade or cancel. They didn't have any decent retention offers that would make me wanna pay the $450. (They offered $75 for 1k spend or free 15k points with no spend)
I already spent the $250 resort and airline credits.
Before canceling, is there any other housekeeping I need to do?

My retention offers:
Both of my free Biz Blue and 1 Biz Cash cards:
$100 instant credit
$200 when spending 4k in 3 months

DW offers:
Free Biz Blue card:
$100 instant credit
$200 when spending 4k in 3 months

Consumer Marriott (95AF):
30k Marriott points. no spend
(I chose this over another offer of $75 for 1k spend)

I just buy other things at the supermarket and throw in a GC or 2.  So its random numbers each time. Doubt their algorithm can or will check that.
Thanks. I would definitely do that too. no sudden abnormal high spend and always mixed with other  groceries. but even so, if they look into level 3 data they can still see gift card purchases.

How long have you been doing this?
Are you receiving x10?
Are your GC's counted toward the minimum spend for a SUB?

14
will buying gc's in a supermarket trigger the 10x MR ?
Does anyone know if Amex receives level 3 transaction reporting on the consumer plat card from supermarkets?
If they do, I'd assume we won't get 10 ppd. If not, then unless you make it obvious with plenty of even $100 transactions, Amex would never know

Amex Bonvoy Business.
Spend $20k, get 25k bonus, up to 3 times.
