Father well over 5/24 with AUs and under without. Applied, had him called and told him exactly what to say. The rep said "sorry due to number of cards open in past 2 yrs we are unable to approve you". So he reads his part of the script, after a bit of stumbling he finally says the line I am him to say: "but I am not finicially responsible for the authorized user accounts". Then the rep goes "OK that's gonna change everything then". Basically, it sounds like all others here where it sounds like it's gonna be approved but needs to go thru an additional phase.

Are the au cards paid platinum ? Or green?
They are platinum. Green don't get global entry...

Does the 100$ credit count towards spend requirement? I have 2 AUS so in theory that is 200$ worth of charges... I know it's small change in the scheme of 15,000 but I've got a bunch of thresholds to meet in the next couple months.... TIA

Noooo. We could've all quit our jobs if they did.
I mean the platinum AUs (they cost 300$/each) but 5 were free during signup...Not the free green card version...

Do play AUs also get the incidental fee per calendar year?

Credit Cards / Re: Buying tickets with Sapphire reserve, or sell points?
« on: January 17, 2017, 07:24:13 PM »
I'm new here!

We would fly economy, 7 tickets, we have 2 reserve credit cards. Not enough points yet, but building up.

I plan on reading more, but the few threads I skimmed were long, so I figured it would be quicker to post a new question.

Next time I'll read more, before posting. Thanks  for the heads up.

In that case I would reccomend going for the 1.5 cents per point method. You can find cheap economy flights even in the summer.

Also note that selling your points is not formally/officially allowed, and can (and most likely will) result in becoming banned from Chase. YMMV. Tread lightly.

Would it be worth selling my points and buying tickets on my own to Israel, or is it better to make the tickets through Chase Sapphire Reserve? Also, how many points is it forEach ticket for travel during the summer? I would be looking to buy tickets for a family, if I earn enough points.

that depends... On many factors

Questions that are relevant are.. do you plan to fly in business or economy? How many tickets do you need? How many UR do you currently have?

I take it you are new.. so if you answered economy to the first question, you've got a lot of reading to do... :)

Balance Transfer. Lots of cards give you that option.
I assume the "point" the OP was getting at was to get points...

Credit Cards / Re: Barclays Lufthansa Miles & More Card
« on: January 17, 2017, 09:23:07 AM »
According to the rep the first card (55K ) miles expire first and are used chronologically for awards

I still have 150K plus from my second and at least third card . NOT sure it's not my fourth card.

RE the TCs  @Boruch referenced :

" This is only valid for the Miles & More account on which the award miles for the Miles & More Credit Card are credited. "

does card and miles credited have to match or is most recent card being three months old , and used monthly enough
To cover first tranche of points left ?   I. E.  if I get my 5 TH card will it protect the 155K I have left ?
Thanks. Seems like I should be in the clear to close. Would a  LH rep  be able to confirm?

ETA: why do u need different FFN for Barclays? Thought you can just use the same number (at least I did twice?)

So I earned the 50k bonus 2x on the same FFN. First time was probably close to 3 years ago (side note- online activity isn't going back far enough), and next time was probably couple years ago. Anyway, I used around 67k of the points for a redemption, but I still have 47k left in my account. I currently have the MM Barclay card. As a side note, I got them to waive half the AF via twitter.

So if I were to close my account:

are the miles that were used automatically taken by the "older" date, so therefore the expir date of the 47k would be the newer date? Or how does this work?

If I downgrade to no AF version I can still earn MM , meaning I can extend the expiry date right? Has anyone done this lately? The one rep I asked to told me he couldn't but I DROPR...

TIA

Up In The Air / Re: El Al award ticket redemption sale through March 31
« on: January 16, 2017, 02:43:34 PM »
I didn't see this posted anywhere (neither forum nor front page) and I'm pretty surprised, because it's not a new sale and there are some excellent redemption opportunities.  Most long-haul destinations must be flown by March 21 and short-haul by March 31.

El Al has its "Fly Time" award ticket sale going on, details can be found here: https://www.elal.com/en/Deals/Offers/FrequentFlyerDeals/Pages/FLYtime-Economy-190916.aspx

Some of the more notable redemption sweet spots (all points/prices for round trip, one way can be booked for exactly half):

***The below is for holders of the Israeli Fly Card (and I'm assuming Executive Circle members in the US)***
Economy

Boston: 900 points + ~$350 surcharges, or 1200 points + ~$100 surcharges
(900 El Al points = only 45,000 MR points)

Toronto: 950 points + ~$325 surcharges, or 1250 points +~$100 surcharges
(950 El Al points = 47,500 MR points)

New York: 1100 points + ~$350 surcharges, or 1400 points +~100 surcharges
(1100 El Al points = 55,000 MR points)

Business - don't forget that El Al has a real business cabin on European flights + King David Lounge in TLV that was completely renovated a few months ago.

Toronto: 3200 points + ~$325
Boston: 3500 points +~$350
Athens: 700 points + ~$100 ($700-800 if bought with cash)
Vienna: 800 points + ~$189 ($1100+ if bought with cash)
Frankfurt: 990 points + ~$150 or so
Great post, thanks!
