Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Re: Lakewood NJ Master Thread
« on: July 31, 2020, 10:00:17 AM »
Anyone know of any large vacation homes (the ones they advertise as mansions...) with a pool available for a weekend rental in Lakewood or within a one hour radius?  Thanks!

Lol I always disable the fire alarm when I grill indoors, but the sheer amount of smoke drives my wife crazy.

I'd be okay with enough smoke that might make an alarm go off as long as the smoke isnt overbearing.
Regarding the smoke issue, has anyone tried something like this?

Did they pay estimated withholding state tax on 06/30?
Don't see how it would affect UI unless they've been on since 04/01 at least and reported $0 for every week. Even then it's a stretch because of the earnings versus collections disparity.
No, they didn't. Also they didn't report $0 for every week.

That is odd. Did they fail to report partial earnings?
I'm sure a phone call would shed some light but I know that's a touchy subject in NJ...
Lol exactly. Even if they failed to report partial earnings (not the case in any of these), how would the DOL know? There's no employer reporting anything if it's self employment...

Don't know about NJ but NY is stepping up their verification game. Many applicants who filed funky applications with no real eligibility (such as no previous job history and no job offer) are starting to see clawbacks/overpayment notices. A lot of these will be refutable as it's simply a matter of sending in whatever documentation they're missing, but for all those claiming fraudulently judgment day is coming...
I'm still collecting data points and getting a better understanding of the details, but definitely seeing it.
Gotcha. But they have been for random (and relatively small) amounts. In one case, it was $440 (and their WBR was $231), and two other people had exactly two weeks clawed back. Seemingly no rhyme or reason...

Several people in NJ are reporting that this week, a dollar amount appeared on their "refund balance," also known as the amount that YOU owe THEM. Anyone else experience this or have any insight why it may have occured?

Fire alarm wasn't happy, which meant the kids weren't happy, which meant the wife wasn't happy......

Broil does a pretty good job
Agreed, its not bad. You broil in hot cast iron? Or once you are broiling, you lose most of the advantage of cast iron?

no.

Tried & failed
Thanks. Failed because it wasn't a good sear or failed because it didn't contain the smoke?

Any recommendations for reducing smoke when using a cast iron grill pan indoors? I know that I need to get it super hot to get a good enough sear, but at a certain point, it's not worth it due to the smoke.
Just had a thought. Would it work to heat the grill pan to 500(+) degrees, then put it in the oven and sear the steak inside an already hot oven? Would that work to mostly contain the smoke?

A sole prop who received a PPP loan to cover payroll can't also receive the $1000 EIDL grant (without reducing their PPP forgiveness), right?
