I have a sunset plus offset and I can tell you that sometimes it turns on on shabbos. Since the zman is not exact. I'd doesn't matter too much for me since it's a closet light but I can see it being an issue.
Oh, I couldn't find offset in Smart Things, but good to know the zmans aren't perfect. I would think they have to be within a minute or two. How much different can "official" sunset be from halachic sunset? Nonetheless, I can have the doorbell turn back on a couple minutes after havdala just in case.

Personally I use scenes and then automation to trigger them. When YT comes around I add the effective days to the shabbos trigger and that's it.
Just played with it. Doesnít seem to be any better than letís say Alexa which can also set on/off based on day of the week and sunset. In fact, Alexa even lets you choose sunset + offset like 50 min (or whatever you opinion is) post sunset on Motzai Shabbos to turn back on. So you making me research this now actually got me to set up my Nest doorbell with this routine, so thatís good! Now I want something that will follow zmanim to know when itís YT.

Any other ideas for automating switches with Shabbos/YT zmanim? Maybe something with ifttt?

Makes sense I have things still from the old app too, moral of the story never rely on a third party :)
Can you hack a way to get the old app onto my iPhone?  ;D

Was it removed in the new version of the app?
It appears so along with all of the community-built apps, although the person I know who has it says he has the new version of the app.

Can these be used online and in store? And if in store, does it need to be physical GC?
Mine? It's a physical card, so I don't see why it can't be used in both.

Great story and job by DDFers! When I read it and saw that Rudi fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a frum American, I immediately thought of my wife's Zaidy who was also around that age and fought in the same battle (his autobiography is a great read). Then I saw the next line that his son is R' Yaakov Meyer from Denver and knew I heard the name before. Checked with my family in Denver - R' Meyer started the Aish community in Southeast Denver and used to hold classes in my in-laws house. He is responsible for making them religious. While I couldn't verify that our Zaidy knew Rudi (we don't think he's mentioned in the book), this is another nice DDF connection to the story.
