Credit Cards / Re: Barclays Reconsideration
« on: October 21, 2013, 10:20:01 AM »
Recon looked into my report and asked why I had so many cards from OTHER BANKS in the past year. So, yeah. Heads up with that.

*CVS/pharmacy gift cards cannot be used online at or to purchase
any other retailers’ gift card or prepaid card that CVS/pharmacy may carry

There we go! That was my question originally - can you use a CVS gc to buy a VR? Thanks. I'm sure someone will ask - source?

How?... lolDisaster.

Lol b/c I didn't see any threads specifically on MR. 100ppd might be bad but if you read the article, this could be the start of using MR for purchases all over the place.

Rookie mistake, never wait for the next day.

Probably. But it was midnight so 1) I was too tired to even attempt and 2) aren't recons closed on weekends and nights? At least Chase is...

Have you been to CVS?  :)
CVS has Chase on speed dial

Thanks. I was nervous that by using a new address in the app they might see I had a different address already on file and auto-reject me. I went for it anyway, and yes, I was initially rejected. Reason? Billing address verification. LOL

If this is a person's only option...
But ultimately you will have to pay the fee?! What am i missing?

Let's try this again and see if makes sense - Use Ink (to get 5x points) at Office Depot to buy let's say Best Buy gift cards that have NO fee and then go to the CVS swap website and for FREE exchange those gc's for CVS gc's and then buy VR cards with your new CVS gc's. So.... you should only have paid the VR $4 fee and still been able to do the online VR upload which seems MUCH more reliable than the gc-wm option.

You did PUTPAC, right?  Don't burn those credit pulls.
A bit of putpac goes a long way... Be nice o the phone. I find that helps better then anything I say...
Of course I'm going to go for it (even got a voicemail from Barclays this morning), I was just waiting till morning.

I figured this was the most appropriate thread to post this in...

Sorry for the lack of sympathy! :P

No problem at all. My lack of patience doesn't work well with the credit card game. Oh well.

Wow. Just spent (way) too much time preparing an AOR. Went for 10 cards. 0 instant approvals. 1 app came back w/ an error. Crushing.

If I already have a card from 1 bank (like AMEX) under a specific address, is it risky to apply for a different AMEX with a different address since I'm using the same SS?

Besides the fact that it will cost you another $8 per $1,000 I don't think they will let you for two reasons. 1)It's hard enough to get them to let you use a credit cards now you are asking them to use multiple cards for on that purchase $200 x 5. (What I mean by hard is that, you don't want to bring it to their attention that you are using a credit card to buy gift cards bec then they ask their manager.....) 2) Many times they check ID on large purchases, not sure how that will play out with dumb cashiers and prepaid visa debit cards.

You can buy a store gift card that has no fee and then swap it on the gc swap website, so that would avoid further fees. And in regards to paying for VR with CVS gc and not getting a manager called over... YMMV.

You can only have 4 AMEX credit cards at a time.
AMEX charge cards don't count towards the limit.

Citi AA links are constantly changing-you can find them in the Citi AA thread.  You can have more than 1.  MBMs with Citi typically have more than 1 pull, YMMV.

It card is good for the 5%, no Forex, and Israel CDW, but that's about it.

Thanks Dan! :-)
