Another update! DH applied for Hyatt, United Explorer, Mercedes Platinum, Citi AA, and Barclay Arrival last night. He got instant approval on Hyatt and the Mercedes Platinum, and Chase was willing to close his Sapphire Preferred to open the United Explorer. Denials on Citi and Barclay.

He pulled his reports today and apparently his student loan servicer reported 9 accounts as having overages, which we assume dropped his score. Interestingly, the derogatory marks only appear on Equifax and Transunion, not on Experian. He spoke with the servicer and they're going to adjust it on their end within the next 30 days.

The question is: what do we do about Barclay and Citi? Can he keep the applications alive until the report is fixed, and is it worth it, considering we'll need them to pull the report again?

Thanks!

Are these the first Barclays and Citi cards he ever had? PUTPAC!!! I was declined for my first Barclays card a few days ago, I called and they just wanted to confirm my address - it could be that easy.

If only we could figure out a way to make learning math somewhat addictive, and with large signup bonuses... :)

Oh right, we need the right incentive. ;)

Yes, Citi id mon used to give all 3 reports (and 3 FAKO scores) as soon as you log in. Now you have to click somewhere or other to show all 3. Once you do look at credit pull section, you'll see hwo pulled when and from which bureau...

FYI Once you login, if you click "Credit Report" you'll be able to scroll down and see all the pulls alphabetically and it will only list the month/year of the pull. But if on the Overview page (the first page you see when you login), you click "Informational Credit Scores" instead, and then go one by one clicking on the grey boxes that say "Equifax Based Score" "Experian..." you can scroll down there and see all pulls chronologically and get the exact date of each pull.

I gave ConEd the numbers from a BB check yesterday to auto-withdraw my month's utility bill. We'll find out if it works in a few weeks!

Never mind, I ended up calling and got them both approved by the same CSR! (she said at first I was declined because the income was too low, but then we added my wife's income into the equation and she approved me for both cards).
Thanks to everyone for all of their advice the last couple weeks while I get familiar with the forum :)

Nice job! I joined over Chol Hamoed. It's crazy how much you can learn about an entirely new topic in just a few weeks. Schools should teach curriculums like this. :-p

Log in to your account as normal. On your home page, at the top, in a blue "strip" click on SERVICES.

In the 1st column, about 1/2 way down, CREDIT CARD SERVICE REQUESTS.

The last one in that section: Enroll in/Get Virtual Account Numbers

As stated in another post, make sure you do not have pop up windows blocked - I also find that this virtual number pop up works best in INTERNET EXPLORER browser.

You will be given the choice to download software to your PC or use web based - I prefer the web based.

It will then ask you to log in again - IIRC the first time you do this, you need to get a call at your registered number - with a 6 digit PIN i think. But this is only done first time.

Once you do this a box pops up with several choices - the first is GENERATE VIRTUAL NUMBER - and in a couple of seconds, you have it there on screen.

NOTE: If you have more than one credit card - before getting the virtual number, among the choices is SELECT A CARD - this will allow you to pick which Citicard you want to generate a Virtual Number for.

GREAT FORUM - have learned alot from  the sidelines - so trust these first 2 posts of mine are helpful to others.

+1 Wow thanks for all those details!

Did they pull again? Was it denied or just pending?

They were pending. Looks like there was another pull the next day even though he told me there wouldn't be. I wonder if that was for the SPG biz card. Going to call then now.

YMMV

+1 It was 1 pull for me.

Who did you deal with at Amex? The Indian reps who are totally clueless? I was denied PRG  called twice but there was no one to talk to.

Indian rep. I know, right? He was amazing. I said man I wish I could get a direct number for you.

You probably have pop-ups blocked.

yes, you still pay $1, but you won't need to waste time canceling. Citi will try to charge that vcc # and it won't go, so they'll just cancel the subscription

Got it thanks. Any chance you have a link for Citi VCC? Whatever I find asks me to login and then brings me to the general Citi CC page, but nothing about VCC.

opened in the past year 6 chase ink bold and plus (3 different tax id )
tried opening 2 more with a 2BM
was denied. hucad already 4 times but a supervisor put notes on the app NOT to approve.
should I SM? any hope? getting 2 denials is bad for credit score? (have 749)
have now big office expenses any suggestions what card to open?
have already (business)  SPG
                                        Amex gold rewards
                                        chase ink
                                        citi AA business

Denials aren't any worse for your credit score than approvals. Each time you apply you get a pull on your report (which is bad) whether you get approved or denied.

You have big office expenses? Don't load 'em up on CCs! Get a business loan.

Even if you apply with a VCC, you're still actually paying the $1 for the first month right? So then why use a VCC? Why not just use a regular CC and cancel within 30 days?

In Chase branch now, having the banker send a personal recommendation to the credit card team to reconsider an app I've been declined for because I have $10K in my bank account. I was declined for too many new cards in too short a time. I will hopefully update here when I hear back.

A learning opportunity for all.
Apply with your old address.  Change to new address after approval.
