I'm not lacking in creativity but I can't seem to convince them to let my wife open a business card. This would be her first... They are claiming they need to see more history on her personal cards and won't let me shift credit or close a card to open itů

For me I got my first business card approved, b/c I was on a Chase biz checking account w/ a former employer. I told him I left that co to start my own thing and needed my own card for it. Even though I told him I revenue was $0, I explained it was a side project as I have a full time job. I also explained to him the nature of my startup (i.e. hobby) and that it would hopefully lead to some revenue in the coming months.

I'm sure you're story is different, but there are creative ways to get approved.

BTW, the link says that you can apply for business and personal but after you apply for one of them it no longer allows you to apply for the other one. So, I called up and they let me apply over the phone. So far, I'm not seeing any credit inquiries at all from Amex (although I am seeing from Chase and Barclays which I also did today), so I'm hoping this will only be one credit inquiry for the 3 Amex apps I did today. If you plan on doing, this, probably best to fully open both applications before submitting one.

Chase Freedom  - pending (not terribly hopeful)
Barclays Arrival - instant approval.
Amex BRG - Approved after calling
Amex Delta Gold Business - Approved after calling
Amex Delta personal - pending (guy said systems were slow)

What are you checking your credit live with?

It also can affect you the next time you apply for a card. The companies do not like to see many pulls on your report.

Got it. Okay thanks.

Ding Ding... Chase A/A..

Doesn't seem like anyone has actually confirmed that A/A has come from VR.

Each pull affects your credit score.

Right, so the idea is that if 3 applications use the same pull, then they're each looking at the same credit score and not 3 successively lower scores?

As it usually receives only 1 Pull as opposed to 3. Like @yuneeq said read the wiki for more details.

Yeah I've read it before (and just reviewed). I understand it's only 1 pull, but I guess I'm missing this point - bc it's one pull, the bank doesn't realize you're applying for so many cards and will just approve them all?

When he wrote AOR I thought he wrote SM sorry my bad...

Right I meant, AOR/3BM. I don't understand why doing one of those would leave to a better chance of getting approved.

Wow. I just got back from scouring Manhattan for VRs. Feels like I hit up every CVS in sight. And if YMMV was ever true, it was DEFINITELY true for VR @ CVS - whether they have them, accept cc, have a daily limit, have enough cards, everything was different from store to store and even within the same store from 1 day to the next. I ended up w/ $2000 worth.

Here's where it gets good. Most of my cards are new and as a rook, I wasn't smart about using them a little first before going for $1000+ VR purchases, so last night (when I also tried out a CVS) my new BA card was declined and I spent 20 min on the phone with Chase Fraud in the store till they finally took off the alert and I got $1000. The Chase rep told me they'll mark all my new cards as ready for large purchases. Of course tonight, my new SW biz was declined. This time CVS basically said sorry, get out. So I called Chase from the car and complained while they removed the alert from my account. I get transferred to custserv and complain about being locked out twice in 2 nights (of course I also thanked them for giving me so many new cards and for their great fraud prevention - gotta kiss up) and especially how I got locked out tonight after I was told last night that I'm good to go on all my cards, and custserv gave me 5000 UR for my troubles.

BAM! Late night, but success.

Can anyone explain how AORs work in terms of magically getting auto-approved for cards?

I was told the same thing recently also. And with enough huca got a new card approved. Although it was biz and rest were personal.

Paging CV. :)

There should be a way to tag ppl here like twitter/fb. Although, Dan would have a lot of emails then. Well, a lot more emails.

Yup it sure is worth it for the signup bonuses. Just don't understand what you mean by $40 a month.

$4 fee per card and 10 $500 cards a month to get to $5000/mo in your BB.

Even without signup bonuses. If it's easy for you to get VRs:
if each dollar spent on cc is worth 1 point and each point is worth 1 cent:
then 5000 points ( x .01 ) is worth $50.  A gain of $10 a visit to get the VRs.

But:  Some cards pay more than 1 cents/ dollar spent
and many points are worth more than 1 cent.

So, if it's easy to get them, they can add to your bottom line.

Oh interesting way to look at it! Thanks! (Not a gain of $10 a visit, though, you mean $10 a month. Let's not assume someone can pull off buying $5000 VR cards in 1 visit to CVS.)

SO the real goal is to find a cc that gives like 5% on Drugstores and then break bank with $250 in points a month. :)

I got an offer on my card if I spend 5000 thru dec 31 i'll get 3k additional miles will  these miles count towards the companion pass?

Just got off the phone with SW re: this question. Rep wasn't sure so he said he'll call me back. He called back 2 HOURS LATER and told me he asked around and no one knew till he finally got a department that handles offers from the credit card company (as opposed to SW offers) and they said the points DO NOT go towards the companion pass. Sorry :-( ETA: He said only if the offer specifically states that the points would go towards companion pass do they actually work for the pass.
They also said if you spent some of the money before you registered for the promo, those dollars would go towards the $5000 as long as they were spent after Oct 1. So that's yay!
I also got the direct # for that dept - 800-792-0001

Would have to argue with that until the OP responds and say, that he's assuming the VRs are reloadable.

I actually meant the VRs. Ok I understood their reloading capabilities. So it's $40 a month to get $5000 into your BB, which is worth it b/c 2 signup bonuses could be 80-100K, right?
