Credit Cards / Re: Chase Reconsideration

I think the 12BM was a joke. Are there even any banks that have 12 different cards - AND that Dan doesn't have them already?

Got it. My account says I can load up to $10,000 a month. Is that a new thing? Everyone's been saying $5000

Credit Cards / Re: Credit Cards Worth Keeping?

So a card like SPG, is it worth keeping open to accrue SPG points or is it better to close and churn?
The same question can be asked about pretty much every card since they each have different features that make them good (eg sapphire for international, united for baggage, etc)

I think it's a valid Q. There is a thread about Retention Bonuses, but I don't really get it - calling to fight for a couple thousand bonus miles or to get some of the fee credited back to you. I would think to just drop the card after you get the bonus (and churn - still learning how that works) assuming you don't want the spending benefits. So I would keep cards like SP but not SW/BA bc really their only benefit seems to be when you spend $ on flights (otherwise it's just 1% like every card), but the goal here is to get free flights, isn't it? ;)

Wasn't exactly retention, since I just opened it last week, but I was turned down.

Turned down for what?

Just opened last week and tried, was turned down today. (via SM)

Come again? You were turned down for what? For trying to get a retention bonus?

Bluebird gives you the option to transfer money from your Bluebird account to the linked bank account.  I have been cautioned about doing so from fellow DDF'ers but I don't get why its a big deal.

They said that it looks like money laundering if I transfer thousands of dollars at a time.  Their recommendation was to use it to fund payments for my credit card bill.

I followed the advice, but now I've finished paying off the CC bills and I still have $2500 in my BB and $2000 in Mrs. Farmbochur's BB.
The latest advice I got was to use bill pay to have a check issued to Mrs. Farmbochur and then deposit the money to her account.  I can do that, but I don't see why a paper check is less suspicious than an electronic transfer.

Just to note: The linked account is a Citizens Bank account that does not have any Credit Cards associated with it.

I'm just a noob but I was on the phone with BB today, and they said transferring between BB and your bank is free and works both directions no problem nothing to worry about. So...

The VRs can't be purchased with CC at most 7-11

Aha. Ok well trying CVS then :)

Are VR cards sold at 7-Eleven anymore? Anyone have exp with that?

Also do Vanilla One cards work?

Right. But if you have a Ink card you want to buy GC at Staples  ;)

Oooo OK gotcha. But I think we all agree I should take some time before I cancel my SW biz and request Ink as my new biz card ;)

Was about to say "aha" to Marco and herman and then DAN WHAT??? LOL

Dan, you should hire yourself as a consultant. Seriously.

It should be in the wiki as well. You can buy GC at Staples etc... then load them on your BB card in WM 1K a day, however online you wont be able to load from a GC more the $100 a day.
Ahaa OK, but if I find VRs then I can avoid WM altogether, right?

Leave them for your next AOR. They will see 3 pulls in the last 3 months + 5 new accounts... no go..
You still have time to do another round of apps to get your vacation.

Plan out where you want to go and stay, along with which miles you need. This way you will know which cards and points you will need to accrue.
You may want to "lay low" for a few months and build a relationship with Chase. In a few months you can go for an AOR. I would say to wait 3+ months.
Okay, thanks guys. I guess a few months researching where I want to go, which points I'd need and which cards are offering the right bonuses can't hurt.
So, Lifetime members and guys like Dan are not applying for new cards every week? Or does it work at that point b/c you have so much history with the banks?

Just to be more clear: He was talking about CVS which usually means buying VR that you can load $1000 a day even online. You need WM to load GC where you can load 1K a day VS $100 a day online.

Oh ok, so I understood the VR from the first post in this thread, but what do you mean I need WM to load the GC?

If it's an old account, average age of account (contributor to credit score) will take a hit by closing it. Reverse is true though too - you can help yourself by closing recent accounts. That's all I can think of.

Right, so should actually be beneficial to offer to close (and get a new card approved) a recent account once the miles post.

I read your long comment from main site and agree with compddd. It's worth starting slow with chase and showing restraint each time. "They" (reps/supervisors) clearly do have the power to override rejections and give approvals whenever they want (as evidenced by supervisor giving you SW biz). But they also have guidelines and policies about when to make such judgement calls. And while no one can tell you that you 100% won't be able to get a 4bm a week after a 2bm a couple of months after a 1bm, the likelihood is you won't get your first 7 chase cards in the first 3 months with your relationship with them.

I think you made out pretty well getting the SW biz and should chill for a bit.

Thanks for reading the whole story! I appreciate both of your experience and advice. I think I will definitely take it. I was hoping to load up for a nice long summer vacation next summer, so I got into all this (especially for the SW companion pass - which I clearly messed up b/c it's only going to last me thru 2014, not 2015 - oh well) but you guys are right, I should relax with them a bit. Do you think I should totally chill, or going for AMEX/Citi is totally different?
