Just to be more clear: He was talking about CVS which usually means buying VR that you can load $1000 a day even online. You need WM to load GC where you can load 1K a day VS $100 a day online.

Oh ok, so I understood the VR from the first post in this thread, but what do you mean I need WM to load the GC?

If it's an old account, average age of account (contributor to credit score) will take a hit by closing it. Reverse is true though too - you can help yourself by closing recent accounts. That's all I can think of.

Right, so should actually be beneficial to offer to close (and get a new card approved) a recent account once the miles post.

I read your long comment from main site and agree with compddd. It's worth starting slow with chase and showing restraint each time. "They" (reps/supervisors) clearly do have the power to override rejections and give approvals whenever they want (as evidenced by supervisor giving you SW biz). But they also have guidelines and policies about when to make such judgement calls. And while no one can tell you that you 100% won't be able to get a 4bm a week after a 2bm a couple of months after a 1bm, the likelihood is you won't get your first 7 chase cards in the first 3 months with your relationship with them.

I think you made out pretty well getting the SW biz and should chill for a bit.

Thanks for reading the whole story! I appreciate both of your experience and advice. I think I will definitely take it. I was hoping to load up for a nice long summer vacation next summer, so I got into all this (especially for the SW companion pass - which I clearly messed up b/c it's only going to last me thru 2014, not 2015 - oh well) but you guys are right, I should relax with them a bit. Do you think I should totally chill, or going for AMEX/Citi is totally different?

Just curious,  are you familiar with the wiki?

Kind of. I see that on some threads, the first post is kinda locked up top and it seems to be some sort of general resource to the topic (but in the Bluebird case, my Q's weren't answered in it). I also saw the Wiki yesterday for the first time about the acronyms but today I keep seeing a database error when I go to it, so I haven't had a chance to browse it yet.

Thanks for the advice. (Not sarcastic)

Y'see the problem with the forum style of conversation is that you need to read through 400 pages of comments in order to know how to use the Bluebird. So unless people start screaming, I'd like to ask some Q's...

Does opening a Bluebird come with a credit pull?
Does the Bluebird act like a bank account in that I can just set it up with my utilities company to auto-pay or do I first need to transfer the money to my bank account?

And thirdly... can someone explain the whole Walmart ATM thing? Why not just buy the card at CVS and load it up online/transfer to your bank? Where does the ATM come in?

Thanks

I opened my first Chase case in July - SW consumer.

A few weeks ago I did a 2BM - got SP, rejected for BA. Called recon, they shifted credit and approved BA.

Then 2 weeks ago I tried a 4BM - SW biz, Hyatt, Marriot, United - rejected for all 4. After much HUCA (see story at bottom of page http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/22047 if interested), got approved for SW biz.

My problem is, that every recon for the other 3 cards ends in "Too many apps, too new of a Chase customer." They even said that if they would lower one of my existing cards below 5000 limit (which they're all at) they still won't approve a new card.

Should I just use the cards and little and call back once 30 days pass on the SP and BA (but before my recon period of 30 days passes) or do I just need more HUCA?

Continuing from before... If I have Citi Gold Visa (which doesn't seem like something you can apply for anymore based on this site -- http://citi.us/118jnoJ ) can I downgrade it to a Bronze and then apply for the Platinum Visa? Would that work? (And then maybe try for the Mastercard also at some point?)

Points are not associated with the bank like UR is to Chase and MR are to Amex...

Thanks :)

I have the Citi Gold AAdvantage Visa Signature. I never use the card b/c I don't like its benefits but it has a $50 AF. It's one of my earlier cards so I want to keep it open. They offered to switch me to a Bronze card that has no annual fee. Does anyone know if that keeps my original account opening date or if this counts as a new card? And they wouldn't pull my credit for that right?

Most probably close it within a couple of months of opening it, so as to get the fee refunded. That's what I did.
I had cancelled my card within 60 days and got a refund for the fee. (Once i got the points i didn't need the second card.)

Thanks! And obviously you didn't lose your points?

Has anyone ever had success with Southwest cards? The fee isn't even waived for the first year, so I imagine not...?

No, you need to earn 110,000 pts in one calendar year. By applying late in 2013 and hold off on reaching your $2000 spending limit per card until after 2014 (within the 3 months required) when the 104,000 will post + additional spending to reach 110,000 total.

Aha, thanks for clarifying. Oh well.
