On The Road / Re: Hyatt question
« on: December 05, 2016, 02:50:37 PM »
Anybody know what my rights are for this situation: Bought Presidential Suite for Park Hyatt Hyderabad last week for $137++/night when it glitched from it's normal $1700++/night for future travel. It's a CAT2 so 8k/night for standard king. Just got an email yesterday I believe from PHH and they said blah blah blah mistake blah sorry, and we will give you park standard with view room in lieu of this error. what? I'd rather use the points in this case. What are my options as my cc has already charged. I think that most companies have to accept it by law. I did it last year with the Presidential Suite at Grand Hyatt Santiago for $37 total for 6 nights with the Amex Fine Hotels glitch. How is this any different?  Thoughts?

Citi AA Plat - $95 credit for $95 spend w/in a month OR 15k AA for $5k spend w/in 3 months
Chose the latter, and it also stacks with the current 1k AA bonus for $1k spend that expires Feb 2017, so technically I only need to spend $2k extra.

IB - Constantly turned down.

Yah, I've been HUCAing all day for IB.  No retention offers at all.  Should I call in the evening?  And, it seems like the retention phone number goes straight to Chase CS.  Is there another number somewhere?

Since when does SQ fly LAX-SIN direct?
LAX-NRT-SIN; I was just abbreviating.  :P

The booking code is "O". You must call. It can be on one.

$20 change fee

Update:  They quickly got the confirmation of the LAX-SIN leg an hour or so after the SIN-MNL was confirmed and likely after I called that first time wondering why they couldn't just confirm the whole itinerary.  Thanks for the guidance! Oh, and they said that it's a $75 change fee.

I know it's the more popular leg of LAX-NRT-SIN, but did you consider just taking LAX-NRT in SQ R and then NH from NRT-MNL? Maybe that's available? Not sure what SQ would charge, but I imagine it's around the same price.

Didn't even know that was possible.  So, "R" is Suites?  Because it's shown as "O" on SQ.  So many codes to memorize, so I'm not familiar with that.  The only reason for this flight plan was honestly for the Suites experience.   :D  So, is it possible to book NH from NRT-MNL on SQ site, or must I call?  And, will this be two separate itineraries or can it be combined so we don't have to deal with our baggages?  We are the mules for the wedding.  :-\

No

Awww :'(  Do you mean I cannot upgrade or that I will get penalized if I upgraded?

Hi All,

I've flown with SQ miles before but never for Suites Savers, and I've never had to deal with all waitlists...

So, the story is: I've been trying to book since last January for 2 pax SQ Suites LAX-SIN-MNL (A380 and 777), and before choosing, I checked every single day starting March 22 up until April 8 and even beyond, just to see what the heck was going on. Lo and behold, all Suites Savers were on waitlist status. So, I got proactive and waitlisted every single day from March 22 to 29 as I have to be at a wedding by April 2, and the flight plan is like 30+ hours. The latest that we can end up in MNL is March 31st.

So, my questions are, is SQ just like CX where seats open up closer to the flight dates? Or shall I find another flight plan? I spoke to CS, and all they could say was that "they are not available, but things can change." What? I could see availabilities on the standard and the other one which require tons more points!!! What backup flight should I fly just in case? I have enough for UA on Y for two, but part of me doesn't want to do so because I would have to transfer points from Chase. What if SQ opens up? Then, my points would be stuck with UA. Also, what if I were to book Y or J on SQ instead? What happens if F opens up for the flight? Can I just upgrade to F from Y or J without penalty just like AA? Please help! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info.  I'll contact Aloha tomorrow.  The prices are reasonable, but I'd have to find out which package we will need as this will be both our first time skiing.  I am going to assume that we will be under the Bronze package, but it doesn't have any details with what each package comes with (ie. instructions, training, etc).

Regarding Uber, I sure hope there are no surges when we try to go there.  I will definitely cab it, if so, assuming that it isn't snowing hard.  I'll check out uberski for sure, but after I check out uberx.  If the vehicle ends up being a civic or camry or comparable, I'll just cancel.

Anything else we should try out while there that you thought was a great experience?

Hi all!

I have about 183k MR, 90k TYP, 30k SPG, and 80k UR right now.  I want to save the SPG to transfer to AA to top off for F on Cathay before the devaluation.  Though, my wife and I are wanting to fly SQ suites this late-March, but we checked almost every date, and it's waitlisted for the saver seats (107,500 pax).  Which of the above points should I transfer over to lock the seats up and hopefully get them once they open up.  Is it even wise to move 183k (after 15% discount) when it's not even guaranteed?  How likely is it to work in my favor from others' experiences?  I will choose a Tuesday or Wednesday to hopefully give me better odds.  Thoughts anybody?  Thanks.

No takers huh?  ^^^ :-\

My wife and I are going to be at HC Park City for Sundance starting this Saturday with a DSU (last one for the period apparently, but I know that I used it 4 times already last year). We actually fly in on Friday evening and are staying at HP SLC Downtown that night. I spoke to the reps at the HC, and they said that parking was available at the hotel, but since it is going to be super busy in the city center, it is unlikely that parking could be found; parking is also $25 throughout the city.

So, my wife and I just opted to Uber to and from SLC instead of renting a car for 4 or 5 days. There's a complimentary shuttle that takes us to and from the city and a town nearby once at HC PC, so we have no issues with that. Just wanted to see if anybody else was doing the same or renting a car. I checked how much it would cost to Uber both ways and it's about $110 max, but we have a $20 credit and 21.5% off as we have our Capital One Quicksilver attached to it. Much cheaper than a car rental.

This will also be our first time skiing, and we are borrowing gear from friends exc skis etc. Can anybody recommend rental places for the skis and also cheapest prices for lift tix or tutorials? What are we to expect? This will be my wife's 2nd time seeing snow also. haha

Lastly, assuming anybody here will be there, what's everyone doing for Sundance? Any movies to look out for? I'd love our stay to be memorable, so I'll take any recommendations. Thanks for the info.

They have shut people down for this in the past. I still can't figure out how the OP still has this. Even those grandfathered in lost it a while ago....
I still have my perk, but I've had my card since 2006.

Data Point:

IB - $95 credit 1st try with over $50k worth of MS and normal spend (but mostly MS  ;D)

Citi AA Plat - Standard retention: $95 credit after $95 spend + 1 extra AA per $1 for spending $1k every month for 16 months.  2nd try and $1k+ spend/monthly just for the same promo from last year.

I'd also like to note that during the 1st and 2nd try, it seemed like CS was going by a script.  When they ask you if you are looking to cancel your card, and you say no, but..., they then would somehow not have any promotions for you.  They also would say that the retention department is only available if you want to cancel your card and "it would likely be canceled immediately.  haha But on my HUCA, when the same thing happened, I said, "I'm thinking about canceling or how do I cancel and how does it work, that's when miraculously, retention promos came out.  The 2nd CS was somewhat hinting that you have to ask this question for me to access retention bonuses.
