Posting on Tishe B'Ov??? To those posting on Tishe B'Ov
Do you think posting on Tishe B'Ov is allowed? Isn't it היסח  הדעת from אבילות? I understand when you give a post or 2, but posting about sports teams etc., can't this wait till after Tishe B'Ov?
Don't you have a drop of feelings for the Churben?

It's obtrusive presence infiltrates every post.  I think it deserves it's own thread.

(In truth, I posted before I saw that thread.)

Re: US Mint Coins For Sale (Individuals only)
If I signed a google form that I will sell it to a buying group, not knowing I would be able to get many times over that amount by selling it to individuals. Am I halachially required to sell it to them?

Re: New Coin Deal
Without providing his name, can you explain the reasoning?

Reason given ?

Similar reason to what he gave:

There's nothing here compelling you to send the coin except keeping your word, which is not a halachik obligation. Need the object to be in the seller's hand and money to be exchanged for the dealer to make even a pseudo-kinyan. That doesn't mean you're off the hook by social standards.

Like I said, I did end up sending my coin to PFS but not because of Halacha reasons, it just felt like the right thing to do.

But I still think PFS could have handled this way better (not saying they were obligated to) and payed out a bit more to their buyers while still making hefty profits and with that they would have bought themselves customers for life. Instead we have this cr*p show happening now across multiple forum boards (including the Eino Yehudim)...

Re: New Coin Deal
Who said that they are making such a large spread? Maybe they themselves committed to selling them for $350 or $400 (because they were expecting to purchase them at their agreed price)?
Yup, this is extremely likely as they get purchase orders beforehand.

Re: New Coin Deal
I'm no halachic expert, but I don't understand how a kinyan can be made on something that does not exist. By not exist I mean something you did not buy yet and something you may be unable to buy.

Furthermore, if the dealer never specified WHICH coin he's paying for, i.e. from which account the order has to be made, the buyer of the coin can always say that the coin he purchased was not part of the agreement and that he intended to purchase a different one to fulfill the agreement.

You're focusing on one of the (at least) three problems with PFS's business model that prevent him from having a halachik claim. Retail seller didn't have the object yet, no fair market price existed, and no payment was made. Depending on how many of those problems you resolve, there might be a mechusar emunah issue or even mi shepara, but in the current business model none of those apply.

The bottom line here is that PFS had a business model that never worked al pi halacha, but up until now it didn't matter. But with the frenzied competition doubling and tripling his offers this time (that we've never encountered before), and with his lagging response choosing to match (never beat) upon request (which is questionable ethics in its own right), most of his potential buyers saw a tempting reason to abandon the deal. After all, why bother reaching out to ask for a match - at best he'll match it, and if you happened to not see the best deal out there he's not going to tell you about it. I'm sure based on this experience he'll have to consider changes to his business model for future.

Re: US Mint Coins For Sale (Individuals only) Crazy what's going on with these coins.  I'm not a coin expert but from a little bit experience I know that this will come crashing down. No reason it's so high. Supply amd demand are both inflated. Just like a popular IPO.

Re: Is there any good news in the fight against COVID-19?
C/P

There was a bakery in beit shemesh where the boss caught corona, so the health ministry went to test every one of the 24 workers and they all had caught it..... Except for one person. They tested his whole family and none of them had it. They asked him why he hadn't caught it and his wife explained that since it is well known that onions are good to stop a cold/cough, she had left a half onion in every room in the house. The health officials took the onions and tested them and found inside them.... INACTIVE/DEAD corona virus... Pls pass on to your contacts.

Maybe all his co-workers stayed away from him because he smelled like onions

Why's he complaining about them not staying home. They're the epitome of "herd immunity".

It really gets my goat to see how they don't give a flock about isolating and are just kidding around instead of taking it seriously. I don't care if I get lambasted for this, I'm not going to stand here and be all sheepish as they pull the wool over our eyes and ram through their agenda. Its time to take off the kid gloves and slaughter them.

Re: US Mint Coins For Sale (Individuals only) If more than one person on this thread end up getting the gold coin, I'll be very surprised. Previous coins with mintings much higher than 1945 were very difficult.

I imagine that anyone that end up obtaining this coin from the Mint will have no problems selling it for a handsome profit.

Re: New Coin Deal I really wasn't gonna comment, but I can't control myself... We have had this discussion on this forum over & over again...This is my opinion- I believe it's deceptive for a company to lure someone in to purchasing an item, for a 'nice' profit, without letting them know beforehand that this item can potentially be worth over ten folds more than the purchase price. & when the individual has the item & finds out the 'real' value, they are left open-mouthed, a deep punch in the gut! I'm sorry, how can you NOT feel ripped off?? & the legal commitment you signed makes you feel like a piece of....!! Here are my 2 suggestions for the coin buying companies:
#1- Add to your agreement the specifics about each coin they are signing up for- with the projected value of the coin, so they are 'aware' & understand what they are signing up for!
#2- Be a mentsch with your offer! There should ATLEAST be equal profit for both parties, otherwise it's just rude!
I've never committed to a coin buying company , but I can imagine how ripped off one would feel in such a scenario. For those who are pushing the 'ethical' card, I'm really impressed with you... Just remember, there's a reason you didn't commit this time around, you know exactly how you felt the last time around!!

Re: Costa Rica Master Thread
Planning a 4 day itinerary for next week.

Hoping to do:

1) Manuel Antonio 1 day
2) Pacuare River White water rafting 1 day
3) Arenal   2 days

Concerned it may be too ambitious driving wise could use feedback. If I need o drop one thing, would it be Pacuare river or Manuel Antonio. Are either a "must do"
Also, is renting a car recommended? It looks like there are tour operators that will take you from SJO to Pacuare River and then drop you off near Arenal
Also, are there any nice hotels that can be booked with points near arenal
Going to assume it doesnít include travel days.
Going to MA or Pacuare would depend if you were looking to do an activity or wanted to see wildlife.
In terms of renting, Iíve found it to be the most convenient way to explore the country. But if you are going for a very short stay and are booking daily excursions, might not be necessary.
I donít know off hand, hotels one can book with points. But I recommend Kioro (where we stayed) or Tabacon.

Re: Airline Gift Cards And Vouchers Master Thread
What's the accepted practice on this forum when someone posts a price for a voucher and then a few people are interested - should/could you -

A) Sell it to the first one who reached out?
B) Sell it to the one who will pay in the preferred method of the seller (i.e. cash vs check), even though there was no mention of it in the post?
C) Tell all those interested that there are other buyers & have someone offer to pay more?

Thank you.

Feel like choice A would be the right thing to do...
