In Phuket and Koh Samui is there a specific person or company to use for excusions (7 island tour, snorkling...) or is that something you book with whatever hotel your staying at? (I would think the hotels would be more expensive?) Thanks

I went to one that seemed to treat them better. They don't allow seats on the elephant, only bareback. I actually slept in a villa on the elephant reserve and had elephants walking right outside my window.
Do you remember the name of the place?

Is Baan Chaang paradise one if the "good" or "bad" ones?

There is a trick to book a tix up to one
Year out , and then you can cxl and redeposit
Points For IIRC $50 fee ,

Then you must use the  read deposited points within the next quarter that I am believe starts January March  and you can extend for over a year for $50 .
Call them to explain to you exactly how it is done, well worth $50 for 55,000 miles

Thank you! Your saying I should call miles and more and ask them how this is done to extend my miles? Or is this something that I don't want to bring to their attention?

Thank you that was very helpful (and sadly unhelpful too with the new changes)

What I don't fully understand is how 2 and 3 differ?

Stopover rules after 10/5:
1. Free stopovers will no longer be allowed to occur in the region of origin.
2. Free stopovers will no longer be allowed to include a flight that spans 2 regions.
3. Free stopovers will no longer be allowed if the origin and destination of the trip are in different regions.
4. Stopovers will no longer be allowed on a wholly domestic ticket for an additional 10K miles.

I remember hearing that if you book a round-trip itinerary on mileage with United you are able to book one extra flight after from you starting point to a different destination. Does anyone have more information on this? Does this have to be done when book the ticket or do you have to call United after? Any info would be great. TIA

Remember Charles Schwab is a hard pull although reports are that it's EQ so that may not bother most, there is also a $100 offer for opening an account so make sure you use that.

I'm not sure if I'm reading the fine print correctly but do I have to deposit a minimum of 1k? Also how do you make deposits to Charles Schwab, electronically or in person?

having the card even the one with the AF does not extend your miles unless you use the card for the past 3 months

Correct, so can't I make a purchase in the next few days and still be good?

Charles Schwab is free with no minimums required. If you don't have an account with them yet, set one up now so you have it whenever you need to travel.

Takes a few minutes to apply online.

Thank you! I'm going to do that now!

i just cancelled my card and then found out I have miles due to expire 3/31. I quickly called back and they allowed me to re-instate my card :-). My question is if I now downgrade to a fee free version does that still extend the life of my miles?

a few last minute questions:

Can you still get free sim cards in the airport?
Where is the best place to change currency? Should I try to change some money before I arrive or that's unnecessary?
It seems it's better not to order any taxi's to pick me up from the airport in advance but just to hop in one at the airport, is that correct?
Has anyone gone white water rafting (in Chiang Mai or elsewhere) and is that a worthwhile activity?
Same question for bamboo rafting?
Same questions for the night safari in Chiang Mai?

Thanks for everyone's patience and advice...In return I plan on writing a detailed trip report that can hopefully help others.
