Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Re: Thailand Master Thread

Thanx for the response! I read your TR and it was very helpful!
2- I'm totally for chilling the whole time in the Anantara. That might just be what we'll do. I would also love to stay in HKT for longer, but I'm trying to spend as little out of the pocket money as I can. The villas are at least $300 a night (after emailing them and bargaining them down).
3-if I don't end up staying in HKT until Wednesday, I'll probably end up going to CNX just because there is no where else to go for 1 day (or there is...?). I am debating on getting a babysitter as well, depending if I feel comfortable. And if I do find one, I might as well do the zip lining and everything else I can't do with a baby. I might even hire a babysitter to come with us on the trips. We'll see about that. I saw on your TR that you stayed in the LM and it worked out fine. I'm just not sure if I'll have enough to SPG to cover 5 nights plus HKG. Cheapest SPG free night in HKG is 10k. If I don't end up doing HKG, I'll have enough. (Trying to get more referrals... pm if you need me to and you one.)
My pleasure!! do yuhave the barclay arrivals world MC , cuz if you dont and can get it and spend in time it will cover the anantara (just a tip)-thats what I used to cover it.
Just make sure the baby drinks ALOT and you'ss be fine/and keep him/her out of the sun as much as possible-in the stroller w/ the shade closed, etc.-we had a two year old and we gave him to drink every second
4- I really don't have a problem with the heat. I grew up in Miami Beach and have been thru enough summers there. My wife is just s little nervous about the heat for the baby. I do t think it's such a problem. I am assuming I'll be indoors most of the time. It's not like there's much scenery to see in HKG.

thanks. whats the best place to change money? ( not specifically the best but not getting ripped off)
The people from KHZ told me that the money changer that is right outside the mall where KHZ is located in is trustworthy and I used them w/o any problems

2) go to HKT for 2 nights, from Sunday to Tuesday. Stay in the Anantara. Stay in the villa one day and maybe check out the island(s) another. Anything a must in HKT?
3) go to CNX from Tuesday till Sunday. Is that too much time? As of now I'm reserved in the LM with points until Friday morning. Not sure if I should switch to the shangri-la for shabbos being that it's right next door to Chabad (stroller, eruv..?)
Plan on getting lots of massages, going to all the animal farms....
4) we aren't sure if on Sunday we are going to end up going to HKG. If we do, it'll probably be for 2 nights. I would like to go, but my wife is worried about it being to hot there. Is it the same weather as Thailand or worse?
2-The only must to do in HKT is to relax!! why not just stay in Anantara villas for both days and enjoy the private pool/ beach-I am not sure if the isalnds tour is going to be so enjoyable with a 6 mth old...
3-A little too much -I would stay in HKT for one extra day and go to cnx from wed.-sun. (especially because you prob. wont do any of the zipline/atv stuff cuz of the kid). We stayed at the LM the whole time (even Shabbos)-Fri night we got a babysitter from the hotel (dirt cheap!! they are off duty front desk/room service girls-we met with her the day before and felt very comfortable-we put the baby to sleep before she came and she just sat in the room the whole time-on Shabbos day the Rabbi from Chabad arranged for a worker to come to the hotel and pick up the stroller and bring it back after the meal-In hindsight it would have forsure been way more convenient to be next door in the Shangri la for Shabbos but I was bent on using points and not switching hotels)
4-It is very hot everywhere in that region at that time of year-dont read up online about HOW HOT AND UNPLEASANT it is there at that time because it makes it sound worse than it really is-it is hot but with the right mindset you'll have a great time!! Although they say HKG is hotter than Thailand, honestly once it gets that hot that you are wet from just walking outside you cannot tell which one is worse! I have been to Miami many times that it was just as hot and humid as HKG and that still does not stop people from going....ok, now that I finished my rant abt the weather... ;D ::)

has anyone been to Lantau island? anything to do there?

also, is it worth taking a tour? or rather go alone.

http://www.splendid.hk/en/tour_details.php?scid=6&id=33
I went there-you take the subway to the last stop on the disneyland line and you get on the glass bottom (or non)cable car which takes you over to this area called Latau Island-If you are in HKG for enough time that you already saw the diff. markets and other local attractions then deff. go for it...

+1 I would skip BKK and stay in HKG for Shabbos instead-Shabbos at KHZ is awesome!

Thanks. Just an update, I booked IC Stanford for 187/night. Got upgraded to a full harbor view premier room (ambass status). Thanks everyone for all your tips.

Can someone that stayed there advise me as to shabbos in the hotel? electronic doors? low floors? stairs?
I got a room on around the 5th floor, IIRC there are doors in the front that are not electric-when you walk into the lobby immediatley turn right and begin walking up the stairs towards the rest. and when you get to the top of those stairs there is a door on your right that leads to the stairwell to go up to the rooms-you can ask at the front desk for them to open your room (they know all about shabbos there) or you can duct tape/magnet the doorpost

I hope not. Any other recommended activities besides the animal stuff markets and massages?
that should keep you pretty busy,
but there is also atving, zipining, etc. (in the same area as all the animal attractions)

I did that with my kid.

We have a nice picture of us on the elephant with a giant pink umbrella (from our driver) to give us some shade.
We also did it with a kid and have a nice picture holding a giant blue umbrella to protect us from the pouring rain ;D :P!!

landing wed morning. at that point I will have stopped in Dubai already so I think I should stay in hong kong till friday and then come back monday afternoon. does that make scence or will I miss everything both in hong kong and CNX?
6 days in HKG definitely too long, try going to cnx for Shabbos (which is awesome)Thursday afternoon till sunday/monday (depending if you want to see the sunday night market in cnx vs. the JCC bbq in HKG on Sunday night)
BTW I used sam's tailor to have a suit and 2 shirts mad in HKG-my original fitting was Thursday night, Friday morning I came back for a fitting of the shell, on MS they delivered the suit to my hotel and I tried it on there(if it was perfect I would have just kept it, but...), on Sunday morning (early) I went back for another fitting and then they shipped it to the US free of charge. The overall quality is fantastic and while it is slightly more pricey($400 for the suit +2 shirts) than other tailors, I felt it was worth it. Tell him your price range and he will work with you (Sam). My friend had a suit made in cnx for $150 but you could not even compare the quality.

the tigers you took pictures with seemed like active, awake tigers? ?
When I went in to the cage, 2 were sleeping (possibly drugged?) but the 3rd one was up and about biting on some stick with leaves at the end that the trainer was holding and it was acting a bit wild and growling-at one point the "trainer" told me to walk away from behind slowly until they felt he calmed down
What's the story with tiger kingdom? Is it dangerous?  Despite claims to the contrary, are the tigers drugged?
I did not feel in danger while I was in there-although the day before someone got bitten but they said he tried to pull at the whiskers or something ::)
Thousands of people do it and come out just fine (inc. all the folks on this thread) I guess it depends on your adventure level ;)
