whats important to you, may not be important to others.
+1,000   :D
agree 100%!

Dan knows me - and he knows it's a joke. I only brought it up here because:
    1) When he was in HI, Dan said that he'll try Marc's cc's when he gets back
    2) today, he posted that he went to Marc's for groceries....

Oh, all you CB guys, do you even know how to count? Miles are always worth more than cash. If it's a Chase card then it can be valued at around 1.6 cents per point and then if you transfer it to United you can value it at up to 1.9 cents per point. So if then you're losing out on up to 98.1 cents per point!
Of course it's more worth it if you're using them to travel; but for those who don't, can't/don't want to,
they are happy to sell them. To them it's free cash of $600 that they wouldn't otherwise have.
To some of us, it's $2,500 in airfare/hotels that I would have spent, but instead got for free!

Nope, forgot.
? forgot ? ... something as 'important' as chocolate?!?!?   ;)  ....jk....
It's up there in the Top 5, right?
1) VR
2) GCs
3) milk, eggs, OJ
4) chocolate
5) etc..

it's okay -- I'm guessing that at $1.99 a bag at Marc's it's not the quality that we're looking for...
(but still want to hear your reviews - no worries; take your time -- you just got back)

Anyone who just wants the Paskesz, Liebers, Shop-Rite, and Rest. Depot at a cheaper price
won't be able to have this product shipped to their store/city at less than $2.50 per bag.
What's being researched now, instead, is TJ's quality chips that are from the same supplier, and have the same rich taste, OK Hechsher and melt well...
(Making progress now on quantities and price, just working out shipping costs per case/truck.)

Heinens is a rip, but there kosher section is convenient. More expensive than ungers though at least you know the stuff is fresh.
Marcs is ridiculously cheap, but definitely no frills shopping.
OK, so we're all waiting on your verdict on those cc's from Marc's (but not 'those' cc's, the Chocolate Chips = cc's).
Did you/wife get any at this trip? Any first impression reviews?

Speaking of great pinapples. Had some of the best, sweetest , pineapple i have ever had, in costa rica at the andaz!
speaking of delicious 'imported' fruit, we tried including 8 amazing mangoes from St. Thomas in our luggage back to the US mainland,
and they did NOT let! THe X-Ray machine found them somehow! It's allowed to be checked in from HI? What's the fruit policy?

General Discussion / Re: Renting Vs. Buying

Surprised no one mentioned shidduchim for your kids. When I was dating, I had friends that refused to go out with girls whose families rented their home. No one will know how much debt a homeowner has, but everyone knows if you rent.
true point -- Never thought of that as something to affect a shidduch... would depend on the area that the parents are in.

Certain cities it's more understood as a not-really-much-of-a-choice to rent and wouldn't be a 'shidduch issue' (LA, for example -- it's possibly $4,500/mo to rent and $1.8 million to buy a home with $350,000 down payment needed versus other OOT:
Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, NMBeach, Philly, where a 4 br home can be under $2K/mo in mortgage including taxes!'s easier to buy.)

So - it's another city/"depends on location" thing -- as well as the benefit that you mentioned,
you can easily take out a home equity loan of $50K after a few years of home ownership, if needed...

Just Shmooze / Re: HOT! iPhone 5s with FLAPPY BIRD installed!!
« on: February 12, 2014, 09:24:58 PM »
Just because ppl are selling phones with Flappy Bird on ebay for $100,000, doesn't mean anyone will actually buy them and pay that much. It really doesn't justify selling an iPhone 5s for $2,500, whether it has the dumbest game on the face of the planet on it, or not.
From what I've read, there are plenty of people who would be willing to pay $2500.
The fact that it's a 32GB iPhone 5S means that it's really only $2K more for the game.

If it's unlocked/has Verizon/Sprint - it's a good deal and you'll prob be able to sell it!

I would say that a house has even more intrinsic value than gold.
yes, better than gold as it gives you a place to live, so even if you have nothing else, at least you have a home.
One can also rent out a room or two if very desperate.

However, unlike gold, a home needs to be maintained to a certain degree.
It has plumbing, electricity and things that will need to be fixed if broken.
Gold, on the other hand, can just sit there without maintenance... (but it can drop quicker in value than a house can...)

This and the fact that after 30yrs you're done paying for housing (other then taxes and home improvement) are the most compelling arguments to me.
true, however repairs and upkeep costs can add up.. depending on quality, standards, etc...
Still worth it, but these are some of the costs involved in being a homeowner.

On The Road / Re: Starwood cash and points

Thanks everyone!

This makes cash and points bookings more attractive, as it offsets the point cost - effectively more cents per point.
Yes, and it permits more rooms per year that one may not normally be able to afford! Loving the gold+ perks. 4:00 check-out, free wifi options, etc..

FTFY.. Not going to be there for long.
true -- however, tobacco will still be there until Oct. 1, 2014

although they still own the tobacco stocks: Altria Group stock, valued at $7.25 million,
and 81,000 shares of Phillip Morris International, worth $8.2 million

and we still need to hand over our license every time we want to buy the "real" sudafed!  from behind the counter!
