General Discussion / Re: Best Frozen Meals from Queens, NY
« on: February 11, 2014, 03:07:55 PM »
Hi,

Am going on a trip to Costa Rica soon and was wondering what people thought were to get good frozen meals from; Seasons? Pomegranate? or somewhere else?
Dan recommended Pomegranate here: http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=38356.msg690451;boardseen#new
And, he has photos and reviews of his favorite menu items here: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/33245

Credit Cards / Re: Credit Card Retention Bonuses
« on: February 11, 2014, 12:19:51 PM »
British Airways Retention bonus question.
Just got the $95 annual fee billed.  Had the card a year.
Retention bonus offered as 9000 avios if spend $1500 over 3 months?
Suggestions?
Keep the card or close it and transfer the CL?
Spouse has a BA card already.
How is the churn on this card?
Thanks.

I haven't gotten into the churning thing, however,
9000 avios for making $1500 in MS (can be 2 simple APs, for free!) looks like a good deal!

:) To me, it's like getting 2 flights (4500 avios each) for $90 total...!

Credit Cards / Re: Citi AA Master Thread

thanks! found it. I feel dumb for wimping out on the 10k threshold now.
my issue isn't the spending -- It's how to get the $200 credit, earn/save the bonus miles, and cancel the card to get back the $450 all within the first 30 days!?

I'm not sure if you caught my point.
I'm not suggesting that it would be hard to do the spending /get the points, I'm saying it might not be safe walking down the street with that sort of cash.

Understood. Day One, go to Lowe's with $10k to pay for ovens and carpets,
Day Two, Lowe's with $10K in gcs
and Day Three another $10K.
A nice laptop bag should hold it - Gets him some great airfare and a couple weeks of hotels..

I have friends who've had $7k in VR until arriving home. Small and Lightweight.
That couple (he wrote on ddf) walked out of the LA cvs together with $10K in VR. That's a lot more liquid than a bunch of Lowe's GCs.
It's hopefully not out of a locked car/ public building for more than 5 minutes....

We should all support cvs for all our non VR needs!
+1
yes - I was thinking exactly that also when they announced no more tobacco products.
(but we're out of vr here lately... so can continue to go in, support, and buy extra miscellaneous products if I can also get VR!)

I try to add things to my VR purchase so it's not always exactly a multiple of 503.95
+1
Exactly! Those items are not things that I need. It's only place on the counter to vary my cc charge amount.

I don't need the OJ and the band aids, however, it just makes my visit look much more like a routine
CVS visit  8)  to buy normal items like that (and dental floss) than to come in weekly/bi-weekly just for a few VRs...

Ask your LOR

OK - thanks!  (heard of this vaguely; assuming that Shavuos is more of an issue since that's when WE are personally doing the 49 days of counting.)

Seriously, how practical/smart is it lugging around $50,000 or $150,000 of Gift cards? :-\

Even if you break it down into 5 or 10 parts, that just mean you gotta head out to Staples AND Lowe's that many times.

300k UR points can be earned by spending only $30K in GCs (x5 = 150K points) and 150K in bonus points from 3 ink cards

so, only spending $30K in gcs would be 2 ovens, 2 dishwashers, 2 sinks, cabinets, tile, and carpet.

Really? after my trip to a LA I was sure CVS is a liquor store
+1
Yes, I saw that in LA! About 30% of the store is alcohol!
(The Trader Joe's there, too -- Hard vodka, too. Surprising) In my state, it's not even in the grocery stores....
The funny thing is those gates that close the aisles at midnight, or something.... 8)

Either way, it's cash, cards, money, and alcohol. The fact that people come in for 'only' orange juice, eggs, and Rx, sometimes takes on a new perspective.
However, I still add OJ, Band-Aids, dental floss, etc... to my VR order regularly...!!...  ;)

My contractor said he will let me pay his fees with my cc. He is also willing to purchase building materials as well as pay the sub contractors with my credit cards (until the plastic melts)

perfect! So, do you have a business that you can apply for a Chase Ink Bold (or 2-3) wife, teen child/sibling...?
You can get 300,000 Chase UR points from just the cost of a few appliances via purchasing GCs from office supply stores!

when you're at the 3rd cvs of the day and when you're leaving,
you see a mom and child coming in to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy,
and when you realize where you are, you say to yourself, "Oh, right, CVS is really a pharmacy!"

What do you think about the Citi Bank Executive American AAdvantage promotion? I shouldn't have any problem reaching the threshhold
+1
It will depend on whether or not your contractors take credit cards..    Also, as Dan said:
Buy home depot or Lowes gcs from m Staples on Chase Ink?
Gonna need lots of Ink cards though...
.... if you get the building tools, materials, tile, carpet, appliances from Lowe's yourself,
then what you do it use the Lowe's GCs that you bought at Staples, Office Depot, or OM,
and then you get 5X the points on your Chase Ink UR (+the 50K bonus sign-up points)
