Deals/Deal Requests / Free coffee at Capital One Cafe
« on: October 26, 2015, 01:53:46 PM »
You text them.
They send a link to one-minute survey.
You get image on phone that you show to Peets barista at the capital one cafe.
S/he gives you free coffee.
Seems that it must be used same day as you do the survey but I guess YMMV.

I suppose you could try using the splash screen I got but again YMMV.

Deals/Deal Requests / Sabon 15% off your next purchase
« on: October 16, 2015, 02:48:33 PM »
Sorry to make a new thread for this little thing, but I couldn't see anywhere else obvious to post it. Hope it's useful to someone trying to unload his Sabon GCs.

Is there any way I could access the Admiral Lounge in Terminal 2A in CDG (airside, past security) without a same-day ticket/ boarding pass? (That is, arriving on Air Canada from Montreal, to visit Paris.)  If I need a ticket/boarding pass, is it a crazy idea to purchase a fully refundable ticket, get a boarding pass, go through security, enjoy the lounge, and then cancel my ticket? (Will it still be refundable after I get my boarding pass?)

Thanks.

Trip Reports / Waltham - Boston Hyatt House mini TR
« on: September 10, 2015, 06:56:45 PM »
Due to some home renovation (spray insulation means we need to be out of the house due to fumes), we need to spend Shabbat in a hotel. Thanks to the Rite Aid promo last winter, I had two Premier - level Hyatt nights certificates. I also was able to use 7,000 HGPs for a third night.

I wrote a letter to the hotel manager in advance of our visit, explained that we are local, why we are staying, how we had some really terrific recent stays at other Hyatt properties (cincy and London), how I had admired the trip advisor reviews, our Shabbat and kosher concerns/needs, and how we wouldn't mind an upgrade from the 1br to a 2br suite.

I got a call less than an hour after I faxed my letter, saying they would upgrade me, would be happy to escort us to room to open the lock on Shabbat, and that they will notify the breakfast staff of our needs and try to make sure they have ample quantities of kosher certified items.

We just checked in tonight.  The suite is large.  Not anything fancy like the London Churchill or even the Cincinnati Hyatt Regency.  More like the Summerfield Suites that it used to be called. A little tired and sterile but clean and totally functional.  Great to have two BRs, two bathrooms and a decent size kitchennete. Some photos to follow, and then more report tomorrow after breakfast.  Go Pats!

King bedroom.

Its bathroom.

Double bedroom.

Living room.

Kitchennete

To be continued.

Trip Reports / zow's Cincinnati mini-TR
« on: August 26, 2015, 05:22:45 PM »
Let's try quick and almost real time TR.

I had a meeting in DC yesterday and today, until noon.  My son (yes, the one who saw toured the AMS red light district) flew BOS-DCA (US, 4500 Avios) this morning and we met at his gate. We spent an hour in the Admiral's Club.
(they also had a nice looking spread of non-kosher stuff).

Our DCA-CVG flight was on an Emb RJ -- first time for my son, so that was kind of fun. The whole gate 35X process is not fun (escalator down to Dante's 6th or 7th level, then a bus to the plane) but it was fine today. I imagine it's pretty nasty in bad weather -- be it heat/humidity or snow.

In any case, Uber from CVG to Hyatt Regency. I don't have any status so they didn't give any breakfast. I wasn't expecting it. The room is nice. It's an award room, 7,000 IIRC.  Someone asked for pix of our last stay at Hyatt regency London, so here are a few pix. Nothing special, but very nice, clean, new-feeling.

(extra credit if you can figure out what is on the bathroom counter).

About 20 minutes after we got to the room, someone delivered a nice welcome gift from the manager.
it is not as nice as what we got in London (that was a bottle of nonK wine and nonK nuts/candies), but I still appreciated the sentiment very much.  It Is rare to be appreciated and valued, so I still get a kick out of it.

We're planning Indian food, ballgame, and ice cream this evening. I will try to post as it goes.

Has anyone been to Amma's Kitchen?  http://www.ammaskitchen.com/

Any suggestions for dishes to order? (or not order?)

We plan to order Uber-takeout from there tomorrow night before we visit Great American Ballpark.

Trip Reports / zow's 2015 Europe and Israel TR (my first TR!)
« on: August 24, 2015, 08:32:01 AM »
I started writing mid-trip, on one of the intra-Europe flights, but I haven't finished the TR, even though we have been back stateside now for 3 weeks. I figured I better just start posting what I have.  Here goes Part 1, EI Lounge at BOS.

Itinerary
BOS-DUB-AMS-TLV-LHR-FRA-BOS

Our trip began at Logan Airport Terminal E, the day after Tisha B'Av. The EI lounge in BOS is a quaint -- not plush but very functional. Nice selection of kosher snacks (bags of chips and crackers and granola bars) and drinks. Enjoyed the beer. Every time a guest removed a can or bottle from the fridge, an attendant replaced it with another one from the kitchen, so it was always fully stocked.

Posting for a member of my shul.  If you can help or have suggestions, please PM me. Thanks.

Is anyone flying or know of anyone else flying from Boston to London Heathrow on Monday evening June 22, 7pm  American Airlines flight AA 6163?
My two teenagers are booked on that flight and now my husband can't travel with them. They can't fly without an accompanying adult. (Because they need to transfer to flight on another airlines to Israel. ) Happy to pay something for the favor. Any ideas?

A colleague where I work got a snail mail targeted offer with "personal codes" for this card. I know it has problems. To begin with, it's Capital One...maybe that's enough to end the discussion, but a $500 cash bonus for $4500 spend in first 3 months, and no annual fee, is pretty tempting.  There's 1.5% cash back on "every purchase," but I really would do this just for the $500 signing bonus.
1. Is the $500 bonus worth the anticipated pulls from all 3 credit bureaus?
2. Would you include this in an app-o-rama or do it solo?
3. Do you think the "personal codes" are really personal, or could I use them?
