4 swipes to 1,999

ShlockDoc,
Can you please clarify: you loaded $3499, but not all on one BlueBird card, right? Limit is still $2500 per card per day, $5000 per card per month.
Thanks.  ;D

If you currently hold the Hyatt cc you are automatically a Platinum member.
Thanks. I don't (yet) have a Hyatt cc, but now I have reason to get one!  ;)

Does anyone have current information on how to get a free trial on Hyatt Platinum or even Hyatt Diamond?  Or has that train left the station long ago?

I think we should all agree not to do this from now on. 1x gas points are nice, but prob not worth s&s cracking down on gc purchases.
Yes, I agree. The first $500 Visa GC was innocent, and they were nice enough to grant me the 5x. I should have walked away, or if I was going to try the Amazon card, shouldn't have gone for $500.  Greed got the better of me.

so OOT i would never think you'd have issues.

I was surprised, too.  I was tempted to ask what the concern was, but I really just wanted to book on out of there.  It's amazing how many WM's there are in some parts of the country, like Texas and the midwest.  Almost as many WMs here as we have DDs (in this case, Dunkin Donuts) in the East.

Walmart Monticello is a no-go now.. I was just there this morning, I never had issues before in this Walmart, and this morning I walked up to cashier and asked to load onto BB and she asks me to see the card I want to load with, thank god I had my real atm card on me, I showed her it did a few dollars from it and she tells me that people are "using GC's so that why I asked you to see the card first".
Similar to what happened to me in a store outside Houston. I walked up to cashier and asked if I could load my BB. She said sure. I had both my bank debit card and my MetaBank debit card in hand.  Unfortunately, this particular swipe machine had no privacy protection whatsoever, so it was very easy for the cashier to see that I was swiping the GC. She said you can't load those GCs. I said, oh, I didn't know, have done in past. She called over manager to void the transaction, and the manager didn't even look me in the eye.  There was no confrontation or argument   I just left.  Thankfully, I stopped in a walmart outside s Louis, and n00b cashier was happy to oblige the load.  So, seems it is becoming YMMV from store to store.

I picked up a Visa GC at SnS earlier this week (Sunday). I asked the cashier if it would credit the 5x gas points. She said she didn't know and suggested I ask customer service before I buy. The CSA hadn't previously seen the ad, pulled it out, read it, and had the same reaction most of us had ("this really isn't clear...they don't tell you which are and which are not included). She said go ahead and buy it and if it doesn't credit the gas points, she will ask manager if ok to manually credit, which is what subsequently happened.   Then I asked if amazon GC would be included.  She said she didn't know, but it would make sense it might be, since it is more like the pictured cards and wouldn't seem to be explicitly excluded.  (I asked if they got any additional info from corporate office and she said, are you kidding? They don't tell us anything. ).  So, I went ahead and bought a $500 amazon GC, which also did not give points.   I asked if she could manually credit. She then called her manager again, who was less happy about this, and said they couldn't manually add any more points, but said they would do it this one time for me.  I was very grateful, respectful, and the interaction ended positively.

Credit Cards / Re: Amex Plat Questions

Don't forget about the $200 airline credit. http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=3802.0
If you close the card within 60 days of the annual fee posting, they will automatically credit your account for the full $450.
If they offer you points not to close, you can always wait until the points posts and close it then. If it's after 60 days you'll get a pro-rated refund.
If it's the personal platinum, officially the bonus is once per lifetime.
Yitz, very helpful. Thanks much. Yes, I remember the $200 airline credit and have seen the separate thread about that.
And, as far as the risk of losing the bonus points (having them taken back by Amex) after I close the account, it sounds like that is unlikely, especially if the cardholder has another Amex (Blue, in this case). But I can make it a sure thing (i.e., points can't be taken back) if I transfer them out to an airline program before I cancel the card.
Thanks again. ;D

Hi, this is a relative n00b question, so apologies and thanks in advance.
My wife was targeted by mail for 100k Platinum, so we just went online, and it was approved immediately.
So, now we wait for card to arrive, spend the required $3,000 ASAP, wait for the points/miles to hit her account, pay our bill and, if it includes the annual fee, go ahead and pay it, and then...what?
Do we cancel the platinum card and request the annual fee refunded, in total or prorated? If so, can she still use the card at Centurion club? And if so, will she be able to apply successfully for this card again in the future? When? 30 days?

And what if the agent says, "we'll give you an additional XX,XXX points not to cancel"? Do we accept that offer if it's 25k?

I read as much of this thread as I could, but lots of the information is old so not sure it's relevant now.
And the wiki wasn't helpful in this matter.
Thanks again.

Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Re: Houston TX master thread

Visiting Houston today, enjoying the JetBlue $69 ow fares from a few weeks ago.
Was at two WM's and both had NON-working ATMs.
Also ran into a frum family who told me that the deli and ?restaurant inside the Randall's supermarket was under HK hashgacha.
They said, "if you follow that hashgacha".
Anyone with more info to share?
Thanks

Not sure if it's the same one, but an Israeli woman approved me on my 4bm earlier in the year (then she wished me a Shabbat Shalom).
I spoke with her -- must be same woman -- a few weeks ago, when she approved me for a business account.  I told her todah rabah, and she said kol tuv.
