General Discussion / Re: Restaurant vouchers replacement
« on: December 16, 2009, 12:19:03 AM »
A while ago I bought 2 Restaurant.com vouchers for GIO cafe on AVE P in BKLYN.  I was told they no longer accept the vouchers so I called Restaurant.com and they sent me exchange gift certificates. Now, how do I use them at the discounted rates e.g. if I want to use the $4 instead of $10 special, how do I use the code.  Can anyone walk me through this. I hear that Dougie's also doesn't accept them anymore.  I would try Mendy's in BKLYN. Thanks. Chaya
I think the exchanged GC's work without needing another code.

Any suggestions what to do and were to eat?

I looked online and all I see is the rock and roll hall of fame!
-Football HOF if you're a sports fan.
-The Cavs are playing the Nets on the 15th.  If you go be sure to catch the pre-game pyrotechnics show!  Tons of fun and excitement at Cavs home games and a great chance to see Shaq and Lebron!
-Free Outdoor Ice Skating.

What other kind of stuff do you usually do?  There's plenty of comedy shows and a $1 movie theater and tons of other stuff.  Plenty of incredible shopping nearby.

Eateries:
The Bagel Shoppe makes excellent bagels, good enough to rival any NY place.  The garlic bagels are yum!  Bakery stuff is usually pretty good too. They close at 2pm.

Pizza: Kinneret is usually very good, Issi's is usually not.

Meat: Contempo Cuisine is the fanciest restaurant and is great.  Excellent Steaks ($30), very good soups ($5), appetizers (10) , and desserts ($6).  Try the whiskey peppercorn and ask them to add sauteed mushrooms and onions on top.  The entrees also comes with a salad, garlic mashed potatoes, and some grilled veggies included in the price.

Subway is good and cheap, Jerusalem Grill is OK for Israeli food.

Bakeries: Ungers has some great stuff like donuts and pecan rolls. Lax And Mandel is gross.

Chocolate Emporium has cholov yisroel ice cream and parve homemade chocolate goodies.

If you dont keep cholov yisroel they say not to miss the kosher Amy Joy Donuts and Cold Stone Creamery.

I remember last year there were links to get 30,000 for the Chase CO card- is that promo long gone or is it still around?

Another question is it worth it to sign up for a continental Key Bank card for $30/ year to get 4,000 CO miles (1.3 cents/ mile)?
The promo is still around.

The CO Key card is free on the business money money market that I signed for previously!

This might be a stupid question but can anyone please confirm if the amex extended warranty protection (extra year) applies to the SPG business card as well? (I know it is for sure on the consumer card...)
It does.

I have 2 personal and one biz.  One of the personal i signed up for recently (thanks to Dan informing that the SPG Amex may be churnable) and i got the 25K bonus after 15K in spend.  Not only that but for some reason they gave me an extra 30K! No idea why and I'm not asking.
My wife signed up and did not get that 30K extra, only the 25K after 15K spend.
Nice!

Up In The Air / Re: is it worth it to sell american mileage or amex points
« on: December 09, 2009, 07:21:22 PM »
Its not the samething and what we need to becareful about is building up a large stash and then watch as the amountof Miles or Hotel Pts needed goes up. sort of like keeping your $$$ under the mattress as bad as the % is taht the banks pay its better then nothing. And the $100,000 you have today will be the samething next yr $100,000 yet you wont beable to purchase next yr what you could have this yr with 4100k

Im not saying a person should simply blow thru their Miles & Pts but holding on to them for holding stake doesnt make too much sense. At 1 time, a few yrs ago it did make sense.
Agreed, but I have no problem going through miles on good values like Business class to Israel or Hawaii where the miles are worth about 5 cents each.

but why would ever pay for a flight or hotel out of pocket??
Who said I ever pay for flights out of pocket?

you didnt 'win' you're miles - for you it's a steady income :)
Lol, well either way my point still applies.
Why would I waste steady income?
