We were flying business and we couldn't get on night flight.

You supposedly had to ask for vouchers. By the time we got our bags, went through customs and went to ticket counter, there was a huge line. It wasn't worth waiting another hour or so. Chances are hotel would've been dump! I just received another email from United after I claimed their offer was low and my original offer was way too low after googling and seeing Israel mandatory compensation of cancelled flights. They said they would forward to supervisor and get back within 30 days!

Flying business from TLV to EWR on June 17th. Flight was delayed an hour. We boarded and then we had to wait as they shifted underneath baggage to equalize plane weight from back to front. Pulled out of gate and soon received message that we had lost spot and would have to wait 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, we were told that United was clearing up a legal matter. After another 30 minutes we were told pilots had logged too many hours to complete flight to EWR so United was trying to have plane land in Halifax and have new crew board and fly plane to EWR. After 30 more minutes our Monday 12:15 was cancelled and we had to go back to gate, reclaim our luggage, go through customs, etc. I got my bags around 6PM. We were rebooked on a Tuesday flight at 2:20. Line to see about hotel, meals, etc was too long so we just got a hotel ourselves. United offered just $400 each to me and my wife. Hotel, dinner, breakfast, rental car, etc was nearly $650. I emailed them and was told maximum they could increase is 10,000  miles each. That sounds way too low since if I was bumped from flight, I could receive more! This was United's negligence in budgeting.  I am platinum elite and 1,000,000 miler. Any suggestions?

Credit Cards And Finance / Re: CHASE closed ALL accounts!!!!!!!
« on: June 02, 2019, 05:25:30 PM »
Spoke to supervisor - what I was able to gather is the purchase of gold coins or bars using a credit card is deemed to be an unauthorized transaction and, therefore, justifies card closing. Her words were basically "we do not authorize the use of our credit card for making investments". She repeatedly asked why I used a credit card than paying by check. I asked her why do I pay my a/c guy by credit card rather than check. Convenience and points. At the end of the year, I receive an expense report showing all my transactions by category. I also told her with gold purchase from Apmex, I would have to either wire them or have them receive a check within 3-5 days of purchase. Then they would have to deposit check and even though it clears my bank in a day, they would wait 5 days. Then after the 5 days they would sort the order and the following day ship the order. I save at least 7 business days using a credit card!

If they are worried about money laundering then just don't allow gold purchases on c/c. I bought strictly as investment as I have over the last 5 years!

Credit Cards And Finance / CHASE closed ALL accounts!!!!!!!
« on: May 30, 2019, 03:29:56 PM »
I just wanted you to be aware of something crazy. I have 5 Chase accounts (Presidential Plus, Marriott, Saphire, IHG and BA). Today I went to the gas station to fill up my car and my card was declined. I tried another card and it was declined again. I went home and called Chase to find out why. It turns out they closed all my accounts yesterday. I asked them why? I am a lawyer/cpa with a credit rating of approximately 835. It made no sense. The representative said because on review Chase felt that the current monthly charges were much higher than usual and when they close one account, they close all. On my Saphire account ending 3743, I have a $25,000 credit limit. I wanted to buy gold coins, 3 transaction each for $13,000, a total of $39,000. Since I have a $25,000 credit limit, I knew it wouldn't work. So, I previously mailed Chase a check of $50,000. After the check had cleared my bank, I now had a $50,000 credit on my Chase account. When I made the first $13,000 transaction, I received a fraud alert to which I replied that it was me making the purchase. At the end of the day, I bought $39,000 of gold leaving a credit balance of $11,000. The following week or two, I charged an additional $3,000. Total, I have a credit balance of nearly $8,000. Chase owes ME money. I don't owe them. I have a credit balances on 3 of the other 4 accounts. My Presidential Plus card has a balance of $44 but its not due as my last stmt had a zero balance. Supervisor is supposed to call me but I am very very upset. This will kill my credit rating and I will have to change c/c for my phone, etc.

Any suggestions?

From reading responses, it seems that no one stops you. You just keep walking.

I used to never get stopped in Israel. 25 years and never stopped. Last 5 years, if I go alone without wife or kids, I get stopped EVERY time if I have suitcase and a carryon. They assume that I am bringing gifts or merchandise for resale! I try starting conversation with a lady right before entering "green zone" LOL

Staying at small hotel/apartments in Reyjavik (Black Pearl) Found it on Expedia and looks very nice from pictures, similar to  place I rented in London a few summers ago. Has Wifi, kitchen (can kasher the oven and microwave) and washing machine/dryer. Decided that I won't rent car to drive and will try tours. Any suggestions? From prior posts, I decided to look into helicopter/volvano and Golden Circle.

Good to hear!

Just bought a soft igloo to store cutlets, hamburgers etc and will pack it a regular suitcase as not to draw attention!

I always thought that one could find Coke and Chabad everywhere! Guess, I was wrong!

Leaving Iceland on Friday and will spend Shabbos and a few extra days in Scotland. There at least there is one kosher restaurant!

Yes, I have a 220 watt grill

If no one stops us, great. The problem is if we are stopped. I don't want to have everything taken away and have nothing to eat for 4 days! I would rather knno what's what in advance!

Has anyone brought frozen chicken cutlets, frozen franks, frozen hamburgers, etc  into Iceland? I was thinking about bringing a "George Forman" grill. Reading the Iceland Immigration/Customs website it looks like it could be a problem and, with my luck, I will be stopped and food will be confiscated!.

Thanks!
