Deals/Deal Requests / Re: Laptop Deals Master Thread

A super powerful laptop - though not the most updated - for $999.

EVGA SC17 17.3" 4K/UHD, Intel Core i7 6th Gen 6820HK (2.70 GHz), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M, 32 GB Memory, 256 GB SSD, 1 TB HDD, Windows 10 Home 64-Bit Gaming Laptop

Is this considered 'perfect' for graphic design and standard office work?
What are the drawbacks?

Is this a good laptop for serious graphic design?

(sorry for the SD link, but it looks like a good deal)

Thanks! No number pad, though. I ended up ordering the Dell Inspiron 17, I posted a link above.
Any coupons you were able to apply? It doesn't look like anything better than usual price-wise.
I'm looking for something similar, but hoping there's a great BF deal out there.
Any advice from the pros on a good deal for a solid laptop that can handle serious graphic design?
Thanks.

Up In The Air / Re: Star Alliance Award Search Tips
« on: August 15, 2017, 12:54:28 AM »
Anyone have experience with SQ trying to book *A award with mixed class? I'm trying to book USA to MIDDLE EAST in I, which should be 57.5k.  There is one leg within USA on UA that is only available in X (rest of flights are on TK in I) and the SQ rep keeps pricing it at 70k (i.e. 12.5k UA in X and 57.5k TK in I). I tried explaining that it's a Business class redemption with a voluntary downgrade for one leg, but she said the system won't recognize it as one ticket if it's in 2 classes. HUCA and DROPR or is this a dead end with SQ?

Credit Cards / Re: Amex Business Platinum new benefit
« on: March 06, 2017, 07:22:40 PM »
So if I pay with the plat I will receive 500 and get a credit for 5000 I'm assuming?
I believe so, though they will be unrelated postings of points (the 500 will post as a bonus to your statement spend etc).

Sorry for the Xpost but this is where it belongs. What does part of an eligible flight mean?
You can pay partially with points. For example, if a flight costs $200, and with points it's 20,000 points, you can pay $100 by credit card plus 10,000 points. You will receive a credit for 5000 points.

And the 5x on BP is only through Amex, not directly through airlines like PP.
Do you imagine there is any real difference in availability or other disadvantage of booking through Amex travel?
Doesn't seem like enough to justify both cards.

the net $100 uber credit if that's your thang
Yes, but that's a net loss of $350 if you already have the Platinum Business.
Trying to see if there is any real justification to keep both.

Amex is announcing that the Business card will also have 5 x points for airfare, hotels etc.
If so, is there any real benefit in having both the personal and business Platinum cards?

On The Road / Re: Marriott 5 Night + Miles Packages
« on: January 06, 2017, 02:19:53 PM »
Just a data point from today 01/06/2017.
I called Marriott to order a Hotel plus Air package with Southwest as the designated transfer airline.
I asked the rep for the 5-night package. She said we no longer offer those.  I said I had seen it online, etc. etc. No luck.
Being that so many had reported no success in the 5 night package, I decided to just take the 7 night package without HUCA.
As she was getting my information I mentioned that I really was disappointed that I couldn't get the 5 night package because it's so hard to find 7 consecutive days of availability....
Anyway she put me on hold to do the transfer and she came back and said you're all good to go, you should see the SW points within 3 business days.
Then, I log into my account  and see that instead of deducting 270k, she deducted 235k and there is a 5-NIGHT TRAVEL CERTIFICATE! (see image)
Don't know how I got so lucky, but it looks like the reps can easily do it. (No I don't own a Marriott timeshare, I'm just Gold status from cc).
Now, I just hope nothing changes and the 120k transfers smoothly to SW.

This is certainly a very good thing. I don't have it myself, but have set it up for 2 friends lately, the built quality seems great, and let's not talk about the 20 seconds restart time due to the SSD.For the price, and for this kind of device, it is a good thing and a good price, but it isn't the most powerful processer.
Anything comparable specs with a decent graphics card and at a relatively similar price point?

Yes.  That's why I wrote from Amazon (not on Amazon).  Excluding 3rd party sellers (you never know what you get and what shipping costs, etc are).
