General Discussion / Re: How much do I owe my friend?
« on: January 28, 2019, 12:38:54 PM »
Value UR @ 1.3 and Hyatt was bought @ 1.8.

Then just convert everything to dollars. He paid $208 you paid $224

You keep 500 Hyatt which is $9. You keep his 182 which is $2.3 so you are in 213 and he is in 208. You owe him 2.5 dollars roughly.

You should have just bought more UR for 1.3 instead of buying hyatt.

Whats next...

Dont want to get it off topic but Its time to bring some awareness to this issue.
You can find dirty people that dont shower in all religions and sectors, but there are too many of them in our ultra orthodox community
Not trying to be a self hating jew, but it kind of angers me why so many think that using deodorant or going in shower on a daily basis is against our values.
I was once in a Mikvah of a specific community that stinking is the norm and I literally almost threw up and never stepped foot again.

Ever heard of a 3-day yom-tov ;D

Plus judging by the smell of a mikva is not quite fair.

The only thing about this show that resembles the "american dream"- like the claim- is how egregious wealthy businessmen rob american business of their hard-earned equity in return for subpar value. Quite the American dream.

why are you so quick to judge. This family was surly traumatized and they should hire a lawyer and sue the spirit out of this stupid airline.

For me, first and foremost things need to make sense rationally. I guess I am attracted to this religion from a different perspective. I certainly get why it's comforting. I'm not allergic to other opinions, like I said above to each their own.

How is my perspective not Rational?

Either nothing is hashgacha pratis, everything is, or something in the middle. CMIIW but no source earlier than the bal shem tov holds such an extreme position as "everything". To each their own, but it's totally counter intuitive to me and doesn't sit well with me at all.

I never really known that there are opinions that disagree with the Ba'al Shemtov on this. Thank you for teaching me something. To me the Ba'al Shemtov's shita is the only intuitive notion and without it... well, lets just say its the only way I can perceive Judaism and reality.

It is much more comforting (intuitive) to say the Holocaust happened by Hashgacha Protis, than without it. (As precedent, I would also point out how Hashem explicitly planned Galus Mizraim in the text)

Of course it is, and Hashem for reasons known only to Him guided the course of events so that those who perished in the holocaust did, and as a result those who were born and are here today exist, but if you could go back in time that would mean Hashem is giving you the ability to prevent the Holocaust which would also be considered within His hashgacha pratis. So then the question becomes are you דוחה נפש מפני נפש which is generally not allowed,  or is this situation different since the lives of the millions of people alive today are directly an outgrowth of the deaths of the victims of the holocaust? Assuming you are therefore halachicly  free to choose either, which would you choose?

I find it belittling and inappropriate to apply Halacha to a si-fi scenario which could never be (not to mention we are talking about one of the most complicated halachic concepts which have such in-depth nuances that change the halacha). It goes without saying, and against every instinct of every normal person, that if you hypothetically meet a "hitler" yimach shmo v'zichro you kill him. Altering the future is not part of that discussion because the future hasnt happened by definition.

General Discussion / Re: Car Lease Master Thread
« on: January 09, 2019, 10:29:05 AM »
Not quite. A new car is owned by the dealership they sell it to the bank and when ur lease is up the bank takes back the car and they sell it so if they cant sell it fast enough or for enough profit they will raise the leasing prices not to lose money

How do banks get rid of the old inventory?
