Re: Google Pixel and Pixel XL Phones
I went to the store to play with it the guy told me I'm out of my mind to switch from an S7.
Seriously? Out of your mind? If he would have said maybe he prefers the s7 over the Pixel even though both are great I could take him seriously.  But with that extreme comment I'd be surprised if he actually even used it for more than a few minutes.

Re: Excel Problem You must set the cell format to text before pasting in. Otherwise, by default, excel will read it as a number. And by default, excel can only handle 15 digits (see:

If you change it to text after the fact, the digits after the 15th will be 0's and you'll lose them for good. If you change it before the fact, it'll store them as text and keep them. Note that on text formatting, you cannot make equations from the contents of that cell (maybe adding to cc #'s together will get you the next Powerball #'s ??? )

Re: Computer Troubleshooting/Help Master Thread
I have a lenovo laptop and the mouse wasn't working. My husband called tech support but the number that first came up on google was a fake number. After they used gotoassist to login to our laptop and started playing around, my husband started getting a feeling they weren't legit and hung up. How can I make sure they didn't do anything to my laptop, steal my logins, or who knows what else?!
No way to be 100% sure unfortunately. You can do some virus scans, avast and malwarebytes for starters

Re: truecrypt
Anyone know if this is still safe to use , I know they discontinued it but wondering if it can have any issues that would stop it from working..
There were some vulnerabilities found with truecrypt after it was audited by cryptography experts. Better to use veracrypt instead which is a fork of truecrypt that is still actively maintained. The bugs that were found in truecrypt were fixed in veracrypt

Considering the sheer queerness of the story, I'd check to see if there's any data on the drive from previous use. Maybe it's from the DNC. Or perhaps KGB files.
:) maybe tomorrow!

OTOH, maybe it's got viruses or something...

Re: Laptop Deals Master Thread
bit the bullet on the miix 700.
Will report back after I take it for a spin. The main reason I chose the miix 700 is because I will either be using it at my desk or walking through a facility while taking notes.
Portability is amazing. It's light as a feather (lighter than any laptop I've ever held), tablet detaches quite easily but keyboard also folds back like other 2 in 1s, either way automatic prompt to enter tablet mode. I find it to be a fully functioning laptop when in laptop mode and a fully functioning tablet in tablet mode.
It's sturdier than I imagined in laptop mode.
Lenovo WritIt is pretty much the only software I kept from Lenovo and it works pretty well.
Light as a feather
Bundled with keyboard and pen
Digital pen (vs. capacitive stylus)
Front and rear cameras
Processing power seems up to par
Windows 10 pro

Trackpad - small, sometimes overly sensitive, other times non responsive
Only 2 USB ports - one is the charger and there other is the  pen holder. ( this helps out )

I have a P&L with many line items, I'm creating a projection. The projection is broken into 1 sheet for each month

I need cells h50-af50 copied and pasted into another workbook h50 on sheet 1 in e 50; j50 on sheet 2 e 50, L50 on sheet 3 in e 50and so on.
Select all the sheets and then write your formula in one of them. It will populate them all

Re: Useful Bookmarklets (browser bookmarks that do cool things) I just created a bookmarklet that will make a DD link from any amazon item page, and format it with the title so you can paste it into a DDF post.

Here's the code:
Code: [Select]

    var pattern = new RegExp("(https:\/\/\/).*([dg]p\/)(?:product\/)?(..........).*", "i");
    var match = location.href.match(pattern);
    var URL = match[1] + "dp/" + match[3] +"/?tag=cl03f-20&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER";
window.prompt("Press control-c","[url="+URL+"]"+document.title+"[/url]");void(0);

As a reminder, to create a bookmarklet, right click on your bookmarks bar and click "Add page" (if you're in Chrome) or "New bookmark" (Firefox).

For the Name, enter whatever you want (eg: Dan Amazon link), and for the URL/Location enter the code posted above.

Maybe a mod can add it to this thread: When Posting Amazon Deals, Please Make A DD Link

It might need a little tweaking, so let me know if you have a link that it doesn't work on.

Re: Useful Bookmarklets (browser bookmarks that do cool things) Great stuff!

Google search the site you're currently on

Code: [Select]

My wife's MBP of 7 years just died tonight. I'm looking for a basic home laptop than can handle mostly web browsing and streaming but also occasional work from home on adobe creative suite software (photoshop, indesign, etc.). I would consider a Macbook Air but I think a PC with buying another Adobe CS6 still comes out cheaper.
Any good recs? I think she probaly needs an i3 or i5 with 4-8gb ram (not sure). TIA!

Finding all the drivers alone will be a nightmare!
The older the os the bigger the nightmare to find the drivers. Windows xp was an absolute nightmare, windows 7 usually finds most drivers, windows 10 almost always finds all the drivers.

I'm going to be out of the country for several months at a time this year. Obviously, I don't want to pay for months I won't be using the phone, but I don't want the hassle of porting myself around when arriving in the States.

I'm part of an AT&T Business Unlimited plan and use an iPhone SE. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PSA: You Are A Business Owner? Are your Systems Safe? I know this has been posted many times and publicized everywhere still there are people out there who's business is up for a disaster.

A friend of mine who owns a retail store just got hit with the new Nuclear Ransomware they demanded $5000 in bit coin which he paid... Yet he can still not get his system back up.

Do yourself a favor and follow the BBBS rule:

All the best

better or worse than the DDMS deal?

I was told that I'm much better off with an SSD. Is that correct? Should I wait until a deal on something that has an SSD turns up?

It's dead now anyway but yes if you have the time it would be very worthwhile to wait and see what comes up over the next few weeks

So now I've got some proof positive that the OS is indeed a customized version of Android.

My only problem is that I haven't figured out yet any way to enter developer mode or debug mode or anything of the sort, that will let me install anything, but my hopes are up there that the developer community will figure out something down the road. Adding WhatsApp, Hebrew Input, and some essential jewish software (calendar, various texts, etc.) will really make this phone that much more useful.

To get to the hidden menu that allows developer options and thereby debugging mode among other things dial ##7764726220 and enter 000000 for the service code.
As per attempts to install apps have met with mixed results.

He definitely has better chances with something like this than with that off-brand poorly-rated one, but it also costs a nice amount more.

Re: Computer Troubleshooting/Help Master Thread
You can't use this one port for both.

What you need to have is an external graphics card (or USB-to-whatever adapter). Something like this (but it will cost you some pretty penny. You can get cheaper like this, but you need to be willing to find out that it will not work properly...)
Or this USB to HDMI Adapter - External Video Card - USB 3.0 - Slim - 1080p - Multi Monitor Adapter ($49.99)
