Different tickets on different carriers? Almost no chance they'll fly to the final destination, unless it somehow benefits the airline to do so.

TSA, but they're supposedly cutting back on this next month.

IIRC you need three trade lines reporting to generate a CR/FICO score.

No, you need one account that's at least 6 months old, one account that's been updated within the past six months, and a pulse.

(Thinking back, the report in question had only one current account, plus an old store card that hadn't been updated in years.)

No, I was merely stating that it is hard for me to understand how it is possible, given my experience. The account i am referring to was at most 2 years old.

My one account was three months old.

Not sure how this is possible. I had a mortgage, car lease, and multiple credit cards pulled on a report with only one account on it, and dropped nowhere near 20 points.

You're arguing that because it didn't happen in your case, it's not possible?

How old was the one account on the report?

Going to hate myself for asking this. Please explain huge?

A while back, I (temporarily) had a credit report with only one account on it, and one inquiry dropped that report's FICO by over 20 points. I've seen reports elsewhere of even bigger hits when the report in question is very short and very thin.

i wasn't referring to his situation I was responding to you saying that people use it to gain status when they don't have status. Look at what I quoted.

P.S. yes technically what he did was a "scam" as you call it. But it's within the rules. The rules say that you can add an additional guest and that he could check in.

It's not an "additional guest" if there's only one guest i.e., if the person with status has no intention of showing up. Again, let's be serious here.

That is what this forum is about. It's about finding ways to travel better for a better price. If you keep having an issue with everything everybody here does that is not 100% straight then why are you even on this forum to begin with? Just to berate all the members? We have a way of how we do things here. As far as I'm concerned no one is breaking any laws. If you can't handle it please go read another forum. /end rant

Concession accepted.

I'm all for getting deals. I'm not for scamming companies in ways that inevitably result in devaluations for people who play by the rules.

JTZ and pillandsmye and Mendelssohn have been saying that since forever.

Inquiries don't have a big impact on people with long, thick credit profiles. They can have a huge impact on short, thin profiles.

its not a scam. Hyatt allows a diamond to bring a guest of honor and enjoy the diamond status even without the member there.

It's plainly a scam (and this plainly wasn't a Guest of Honor situation). Let's be serious here.

Data point.
Not to scare everyone as I'm sure this account was the exception to the rule.
When I tried checking in they said that I can't check in without the AH and they will charge me rack rate. They said there's a note in the account to make sure he checks in. Otherwise the hotel won't get reimbursed from gold passport.
I begged/ negotiated to no avail. After an hr we made up that they will give me a reduced rack rate and if I have the points in MY account by the time I checked OUT then, they can use points, otherwise it'll be the rack rate.
After I checked in on those terms and the account holder called the hotel on my behalf they called me to say they will make a one time exception and honor this reservation.
Again I spoke to many people that didn't have this issue but YMMV.

I'm surprised hotels ever do this, since it's such an obvious scam opportunity. With the way hotels and airlines have cracked down on--and otherwise devalued--their programs, one would think hotels would have a strict "no person with status, no status benefits" rule.
