Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Re: South Florida Master Thread
« on: April 09, 2018, 04:27:38 PM »
I was just invited to be flown in to give some lectures in Miami ... in early July. :( The speeches alone aren't enough to fill my time there or make the trip worthwhile, so even with my expenses covered, is it worth it to go there in the summer?

I'm not a huge foodie, so the restaurant scene isn't enough of a draw, and I wouldn't be comfortable going to mixed beaches.

Are there enough activities there (e.g. Everglades) that would be pleasurable in July to fill a few days to justify making a trip out of it? Or will I be miserable the whole time due to humidity, storms, and mosquitoes?
Yes, Miami is hot in July. So swimming, either beach or pool, is a major draw. An early morning, or evening, walk on the boardwalk/promenade might be nice, and you might find some isolated pool/beach time at a quiet time or location. There is a deserted area at Haulover Park that was frequented by Chasidic men, but be careful as there are no lifeguards there and there was a tragic drowning last year. Another activity may be boating, or fishing, if you are interested.

Would TSA mind if I pour liquid NyQuil (non-prescription cold medicine) into an empty container smaller than 3.4 ounces and then put that into a clear plastic bag?

Post Pesach Update for my upcoming trip:

What, in your opinion, are the best restaurants in Yerushalayim for a nice dinner?
And the best for a dairy or pareve lunch?

Thanks!

No need to answer but I'm curious why you want something on the "mehadrin" level.
Do you know anything about any of the different types? Anything at all about their standards? Have a Rav in Israel who knows them well who told you Mehadrin is good but not less?
Iím aiming at matching the level I eat here which is Glatt Kosher and with what I believe is a reliable hashgocha, such as OU. I really do not know much in response to your questions. Once upon a time when I visited my kids in Yeshiva in EY they set the Mehadrin standard which I continued to follow.

You should probably try to give an idea of what hechsherim you eat. 1868 is rabbanut IINM & crave is rabbanut mehuderet.
Apparently they are both Rabbanut Mehuderet. Is that same as Mehadrin? I would want something on the Mehadrin level.

How does Gefen explain the label? More importantly, what will they do to inform the public before Pesach? Not everyone will read the English, especially if sold in Israel and even here in some Chasidishe areas.

What rolling garment bag would you recommend? Looking for it to hold a suit, and several dresses.

It's actually only 5 of us (3 kids) and I did only pay for one room at Marina Bay sands.  They are super strict about only allowing 4 people per room (and give you a card for each person to enter the pool and viewing area) plus I refuse to be squashed in one room with my family (others are makpid about flying only in F and J and this is one of my things I need for an enjoyable vacation) so I think I came up with a creative solution that y'all DDFers will like and will explain in that section of the TR!  :P

It could be you're busy, especially before Pesach  :), but know that your DDF trip report readers are looking forward to the next installment and probably curious, as I am, about that creative solution.
