I davened weekday Minchas at the Tribeca Synagogue on White Street and also the Wall Street Synagogue at 48 Beekman Street, apparently near your Hotel, but was never in that area on Shabbos. I always thought the latter was closed on weekends, as all the other weekday financial district Mincha minyanim, but I just googled the WSS and they show Shabbos services. Also, if youíre up for more of a walk there are Shuls on the Lower East Side, but again Iím not familiar with any details.

It looks like i will be at the Beekman Hotel https://www.thebeekman.com/ for shabbos in May. anyone have experience on shabbos there (stairs, entrance/exits, coffee in the am?) relatedly, has anyone here davened at the Tribeca Synagogue/enjoyed their kiddush, or are there other options not too far from city hall for a nice shabbos?
That area by Beekman Street is a business office district with nothing Shabbosdig. I think youíll be bored. Best area for Shabbos in Manhattan would be the upper West Side, from the 60ís up to the 90ís, a residential neighborhood near many Shuls. You can also walk to Central or Riverside Park.

Are there any specific kosher Chinese candies? How would I know if its kosher, do they have a hechsher?
I doubt it, and would not presume otherwise without a reliable hechsher on the label. We were pleasantly surprised to find Haagen Daaz bars and containers with an OU in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Whats the best shabbos situation in Shanghai? I see there's 3 different Chabads
For Shabbos you will want to stay within walking distance of this location, Rabbi Greenbergís Chabad Shul and restaurant. Links to nearby hotels and Shabbos reservation form on website:

Also great restaurant during the week, steaks are excellent!

I have seen reports of people being invited to meals when they showed up in Shul as the community knows when there's a stranger/guest in the back of Shul. ... :)
I know, but traveling with DW on vacation, not feeling good about uncertainty and awkwardness of waiting until we are in Shul Friday night to possibly be invited. Too bad there is no Chabad, or restaurant open on Shabbos. We could buy out in advance but Friday night in particular not so geshmack to eat in the hotel room; we will be staying at the Sunborn Hotel, but not a suite.  And given what I understand is the extraordinary hachnosas orchim there, you would think that the community website would respond to an e-mail.

Which shul is the closest to the turnberry for Shabbos?
I don't know but find that the Kosher GPS App is really great for finding the closest shuls and kosher restaurants.

Posted this before, and on Spain thread as well, but reposting now closer to my upcoming trip to see if anyone else might want to weigh with some helpful advice on this. I emailed the Gib Community website about Shabbos meals but have not received any response. Seems awkward to solicit a Shabbos meal invite but apparently this is how itís done in Gibraltar. Yet, how do I make this happen?

I am trying to find out how to arrange in advance to be hosted for Shabbos meals in Gibraltar. I emailed the Gibraltar Jewish Community website but have not heard back yet. I wonder if any other DDF posters were hosted and can share information.

Extraordinary, non-PC, security is necessary and appropriate on El Al flights to Israel as they are obvious targets for terrorism. I, for one, appreciate and feel safer for those efforts. In the US the routine random pat downs without discrimination, avoiding non-PC targeting of more likely suspects, are foolish.

I think people do the opposite. At our Hkg Shabbos table, a number of the men had been in China all week and then just head to Hkg for Shabbos, where they can enjoy nice food, company and Davening,
It's a 45 minute subway ride from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. We made it a day trip, took the train back and forth, 10 am and 3 pm so as to avoid rush hour each way, from station right by KZ to the Shenzen Luo shopping center. And the Hong Kong subways are very modern, clean, safe and efficient. By comparison, the NYC subways make it feel like we are the third world country.
