Heís waiting for Cuomoís permission
Itís very clear that Cuomo isnít interested. De blasio wouldnít have gone public with it Cuomo was in approval.

Big change will be schools and maybe shuls.
Shuls legally canít be closed. And schools help how exactly? Kids will still be getting together just wonít be getting the same education

As expected

Literally the stupidest policy in history. You want to contain spread so therefore you close business and force people who need stuff to go to other communities.

Also it goes into effect on Wednesday supposedly (I have serious doubts Cuomo will approve any of this) but if itís so dire why wait?

Is it possible he was talking about pulling in random people to test for antibodies?
No. He was definitely talking about Covid tests.

I've seen stories about that for antibodies, but not for infections. Any links?
Iíve watched way too many of that mans press conferences where heís said that.

Nobody is testing for fun. People get tested if they have symptoms. The positivity rate is a key metric as is estimates how much of the population is getting covid vs. a common cold. It's a huge reach to say that Lakewood and BP are being "smarter" than everyone and only testing people who were symptomatic.

To your other point, both metrics (number of new cases and positivity rate) tell part of the story. Taken together, they offer a good window into the state of things. If the number of cases is increasing, AND the rate of positives are BOTH increasing, that's a clear sign of an outbreak.
This is simply wrong. New York encourages everyone to get a test and the governor has taken pride in the fact that they pulled people off the street and got them tested.

Conversations like that, and other posts on here in general, make me wonder about the specifics of the Torah approach to halacha and medicine. Is there a clear structure or guidance from the Gedolim, now and throughout history, on the balance between doctors and rabbonim when it comes to personal and public health? It seems like each rov (or even pulpit rabbi) seems to have a different approach as to how much doctors influence their piskei halacha and public guidance. It doesn't make sense to me that there isn't a clear mesorah on how these things are dealt with. The lack of uniformity on the issue is literally costing lives.
The mesorah was broken in a sense when the leaders went from being rabbonim to roshei yeshiva.

Completely nonsensical.
Really? 140 tests in Boro park yesterday is a low number to consider it an outbreak

There's a very alarming trend going on. Top neighborhood in NJ? Lakewood. Top neighborhoods in NYC? BP, Midwood etc. Top neighborhoods in NY State? Ramapo, KJ.

Something has to change. It can't be a coincidence everywhere. And that change can't just be wearing masks when reporters are around.
The city of Buffalo had a 5.5 percent positive rate a couple weeks ago and no one was freaking out.

It wasnít masks only when reporters were around. There was big push to wear masks in Brooklyn neighborhoods and from what Iíve heard there was big improvements.

I know. And I'm not advocating for a lockdown, either. Just commenting on the absurdity of it all.
Neither am I. Iím just saying we would have seen panic over 400 cases in a day
