Credit Cards / NEW CHASE FREEDOM BENEFITS
« on: April 16, 2019, 10:45:37 AM »
Hi,

I have a Sapphire Reserve, Freedom Unlimited, Freedom, Ink Cash Card in my wallet.
Why should I continue to use my current Freedom Unlimited Card with the old 1.5 points per dollar benefit?
Shouldn't everyone who has a Freedom Unlimited Card just open another one for the new terms?

Am I missing something??

Thanks In Advance!

The beauty of the CSR is that it allows everyone to easily evaluate value of points, as it puts a 1.5 cents floor on the value.

Anything valued below that can be universally agreed upon as poor value. 1.5 cents is fair value (or just below, depending where it's redeemed as far as ease of finding the redemption and actually redeeming), anything above that is subjective (depending on time and effort that needs to be spent for the redemption).

So very simply put -- if it comes out to less than 1.5 cents per mile, its not worth is with a CSR correct?

IMO only use as many cards as you can remember before you start not remembering to pay

I have set a special calendar reminding me when to pay and due dates etc...

Why do you need an app for that?
Write on the back of the card if you can't remember the bonus categories, but it's not that hard.

Hey Dan, thank you for the reply.

Its not just for the bonus categories. I am a beginner and trying to figure out this whole points system and I found that app very helpful. It explained why i should use a specific card and how much i gained and lost if I used the correct or incorrect card. It was also very helpful when i walked into a store I got a notification telling me where I am and which card I should use when Im there.

I think tools like that is very helpful to the beginners. No?

Awardwallet premium IINM.
Not a recommendation, just answering the question.

Have you used this app? I don't see this app does what I need.

I need the app to tell me which card to use when buying something somewhere.

Credit Cards / APP TO MANAGE CREDIT CARD SPENDING
« on: March 26, 2019, 01:14:26 PM »
There used to be an app called TPG where you would put in all the credit cards you have in your wallet and whenever you want to buy something at any store or website it tells you which credit card to use at that time. It calculated the value of points, miles, bonus categories etc... of every card in your wallet.

That app is now gone and I am looking for another app that will help me maximize all the rewards that my cards offer.
Anyone know of any app?

Thanks in advance!

So one example I ran was JFK-FLL on Jetblue this weekend.

The flights I selected totaled to 59,900 Jetblue Points+$11 in taxes.  To get the same flight in $ it came out to $651.

So $651/59,900 = 0.010 which means a penny per mile. Is that right?

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR HELPING

Missing taxes and fees from equation.

So more accurately using above example would be:

(300-[taxes & fees paid for award redemption])/7500=[value of miles]

So how would I know when is the right time to use points (transfer to miles) or just book through Ultimate Rewards portal?

So if I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, I should never book anything less then 1.5 Cents per point is that correct?

Hi All,

I am a beginner in points and miles and Dan was kind enough to reply to one of my questions on a post.

I asked how do I know the value of a mile to see if its worth to transfer to a partner. Dan answered "The value of a mile used is the paid price of a flight divided by the number of miles required."

So I tried to do some calculations and watched out for later posts from Dan in regards to conversions and I am struggling to come out to the same calculations as Dan did.

Can someone give me a quick example of how to calculate?

4-8 or 48?

They said 4 to 8 months after closing. I guess Ill call another rep to see what they have to say.

I opened the SP 5 years ago and the rep was insisting that it was 4 to 8 months after CLOSING a sapphire.
