I have 39 stamps in total.

Some unique ones include a stamp from the González Videla Base in the Chilean Antarctic Territory, Stanley in the Falkland Islands, and Fin del Mundo in Argentina - the latter of which is more of a tourist trap type thing than an actual border crossing.

Land crossing-wise, a few weird ones are Debeli Brijeg in Montenegro, and three Croatian ones: Karasovići, Zaton Doli, and Kelk.

Trip Reports / Something Fishy's Iceland Saga: Summer Edition
« on: March 03, 2019, 12:33:13 PM »
Ah, Iceland. That tiny little country that is a shorter flight from New York than Los Angeles is, but that may as well be a world apart. An adventurer's and photographer's dream.

One of the most fascinating thing about Iceland to me is how different the country appears as the seasons change. Iceland in the winter and Iceland in the summer may as well be two completely different countries. The entirety of the landscape changes over from stark white to neon green, the sky goes from aurora to the midnight sun, and the waterfalls unfreeze and the animals come out.

Having had an absolutely epic trip to Iceland during the winter of 2015 (trip report here), I did another trip there in the summer of 2016, revisiting certain locations under their summer garb, and exploring a whole bunch of additional locations.

(Shameless plug here ;D: I'm running a third Iceland trip in May - see the details here if you're interested in another epic adventure.)

This trip was in July, which meant it never really got dark. We also had the full smorgasboard of Icelandic weather - hot, cold, pouring rain, and amazing sunsets - often within five minutes of each other.

Tech Talk / Powerpoint Help

I'm using PP for the first time in maybe 10 years...

I have a bulleted slide, with each bullet appearing on a click. I want to insert full-screen images between some bullets. Can this be done in a single slide, or do I need to do all seperate slides (i.e. list with one bullet > image > list with two bullets, etc.)?

Trip Reports / Something Fishy's Random Mini TRs and Pictures Thread
« on: August 26, 2018, 02:37:26 AM »
I have a bunch of random little TRs scattered around DDF and a couple more that I want to add, so I figured I'd gather them all in one place.

I'll start with linking to existing ones, and then add more as they come along.

Holy Grail, Wandering Jew, Good Samaritan, Holy Cow, and a bunch more. All if those are technically Christian or Buddhist/Hindu religious terms, but these days are simply used in everyday conversation without any religious connection or implication.

Is it wrong for a Jew to use these terms the way they are commonly used today?

Trip Reports / New Feature: Browse All Trip Reports On A Map!
« on: April 20, 2018, 12:18:17 AM »
Click here to browse the map!

Every pin represents a single author's TR. Some people have written multiple TRs of a single locations, so these will all be in that one pin. Popular places with many trip reports will have many pins; these will show up as you browse and zoom into the map. Note that the pins are not places in precise locations; they are instead generalized to the country or city as per the master wiki.

Use this map as an easy way to find reports, to browse locations near the ones you're interested in, see where people who've done similar trips to yours went, or just to see how well traveled our little community here is.

This is still a work in progress, so please feel free to comment and critique.

According to a bunch of state laws now going into effect, out of state retailers will now need to report sales to state governments. This is already in effect in Colorado, Vermont, Washington, and Rhode Island. Puerto Rico, Louisiana, and a few others are coming aboard soon too.

In the past, if you bought something at B&H for instance and shipped it to Colorado, they didn't collect any sales tax. But now B&H is required to share that purchase with the Colorado tax authorities, who can come after you and make you pay the tax.

Some examples and more details:

Yet another nail in the coffin for online "tax free" shopping...
