Started a new TR: Iceland summer 2016.

Trip Reports / Something Fishy's Iceland Saga: Summer Edition
« on: March 03, 2019, 12:33:13 PM »
Ah, Iceland. That tiny little country that is a shorter flight from New York than Los Angeles is, but that may as well be a world apart. An adventurer's and photographer's dream.

One of the most fascinating thing about Iceland to me is how different the country appears as the seasons change. Iceland in the winter and Iceland in the summer may as well be two completely different countries. The entirety of the landscape changes over from stark white to neon green, the sky goes from aurora to the midnight sun, and the waterfalls unfreeze and the animals come out.

Having had an absolutely epic trip to Iceland during the winter of 2015 (trip report here), I did another trip there in the summer of 2016, revisiting certain locations under their summer garb, and exploring a whole bunch of additional locations.

(Shameless plug here ;D: I'm running a third Iceland trip in May - see the details here if you're interested in another epic adventure.)

This trip was in July, which meant it never really got dark. We also had the full smorgasboard of Icelandic weather - hot, cold, pouring rain, and amazing sunsets - often within five minutes of each other.

I’m connected with a magazine that would gladly make a full fledged interview with victims for the purpose of awareness, free of charge. If interested please PM.

Can vouch that this magazine's readership is exactly those who have been whipping out cards. Kudos to @ruv for taking the initiative and I hope people take him up on it.

Added my photobook to the Cuba TR.

It only took three and a half years, but I finally made my photobook from this trip (and ran up against Shutterfly's 111-page limit for the first time). Figured I'd share:

Update from LOT 2/25/19 - switched to Zetko

Wow, a KSML company that actually wants feedback? Be still, my heart:

(Definitely a chassidisha company though based on the "from where did you fly" in the questionnaire ;D.)

Now, we’ll take the tour of the interior

Awesome walkthrough, triggers happy memories.

If you don't mind, I'm going to link to your post from my TR.

ETA: Done.

So... Here's the part where you grab the tar and feathers and run me out of town: I don't have a single picture of the house to share. Not one.

But wait! There's hope. A guy named ‎Lucie Pineault was there shortly before me and has some decent pictures of the house, so I'll link to his Facebook pictures below when applicable. [EDIT 2/27/19: Lucie's pictures are now gone from Facebook, but DDFer @as2 just came back from the island has has an awesome walkthrough in his trip report - you can see it around halfways down this post.]

[Update: this trip is now sold out and waitlist only.]

Iceland photography trip happening in May. We depart Sunday 5/12, arrive 5/13. Head to the north of Iceland, spend 4 days photographing the amazing waterfalls, landscapes, and thermal features. Take a scenic flight for aerial photography (regularly scheduled commercial flight in a low-flying Twin Otter, so not a dedicated "sightseeing" flight - 3 legs, approx. 2 hours in the air). Return Friday the 17th.

This is strictly geared toward photographers, which means crazy hours, long drives, and spending hours at a single location. If you're into photography, this is absolute heaven. However if you aren't, you will be completely bored and this trip is not for you 😄.

Food will be catered by Shua from L'orchidee Catering who did our Antarctica trip. He will be coming along and will be responsible for all the weight we'll be gaining.

Cost is $2000 and includes all food, lodging (we have our own house in the Icelandic countryside), transport, fees, etc -  everything but the flights to and from Iceland (the scenic flight IS included).

Maximum 5 people, and most spots are already gone. Ask here or PM me if you're interested!

(Note regarding the hechsher: Shua's establishment is under the MK (Montreal Kosher), but they require us to state that as soon as anything leaves his premises they are no longer responsible, and that Shua's participation on this trip is not as their representative.)

Awesome! Can't wait for the rest!

That plane does look kinda sketchy, but hey, it's Honduras ;D.

That's the most Canadian thing I've heard all day.

You flew on portor airlines or something?
That's the only flight that I can recall landing at that airport.
 Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport

That's correct.
