Tech Talk / Re: Verizon Shutting 3g service

I am surprised because Verizon really made it sound like JAN 2021 was going to be THE END.. So far my 3g is working fine. Anyone have an updated date?

The hardware on the old exalt was weak. Kept breaking
That's true. Do we know if the LG classic hardware is any better? (besides for the obvious dip in quality on the Camera & Screen)

But you will pay $300 for the old LG exalt?
YES. People will invest if at least it is a good product. Even though the Wine is the best one out, people feel ripped off if, at the end of the day its slow and laggy. That's just life. The Exalt may be expensive but people feel good about it.

you are incorrect. The whole international market calls it that, including india and soon to be europe.
Correct. They also use Metric, we don't. Most of us are in USA. We are not India & Europe

And if someone needs info on a non-USA 'Folder 1', how should he name it?
Exactly that. But lets stop calling the LG Classic the "LG folder 2" 'because thats what its really called in Korea"

If you look around on Ebay and other sites you can find it for 30-50 sometimes. I have even seen it in Target for 50- Brand New!
Wow. but that's probably because they are on clearance or something, because apparently they aren't selling it anymore. (dont see it on their website)

No not really...

Care to enlighten us?

No, this is to make it work.
When you are talking about message plus please be clear what features you are talking about, AFAIK message plus as an app is simply A messaging app, if you're looking for the group messaging that is A Verizon network feature
Ok yes that probably what people meant by that, and simply put you probably cant get it on any other phones. Can you be more specific on the how to enable other networks?

Activate all hardware supported bands via hidden menu and voila
Is that supposed to help for Message+?

It's so weird that I never came across the LG wine 2.

Is there any difference between the wine two and the classic?

It makes sense that you never came across it because it is only sold through US Cellular that doesn't sell in the Northeast US, so its pretty hard to get your hands on one. The wine 2 seems to be the same hardware with slightly different software.

It does say clearly do not purchase this if you can't pull up the unlock screen.

Same idea here.
https://www.unlockriver.com/index.php?_route_=lg&product_id=14717

It's not 100% impossible its 10000% impossible to get an unlock code for ANY Tracfone and unlock the device. As far as an LG Wine 2 for T-Mobile, Verizon, or AT&T I do have 1 that works.  :P

Can you help me out with that? I actually got my hands on the Wine 2 got it supposedly "unlocked" from US cellular, and the Unlock code, but didn't see anywhere to input a code and couldn't get it working well with any service at all...

Then an apk would have to do, but not familiar with how to download the apks and bluetooth them over and all.
So will allow for others to respond.
Dont think its really possible to add a full functioning message+ app to any of the flip phones that don't come with it built-in. So really the answer would be no flip phone that I know of, except the not current, hard to find ones. Just buy the Kyocera Cadence

Though I'm curious to know if the CDMA version of LG classic would work on T mobile? Or only a Walmart Version?
What I don't understand is why would LG come out with a decent phone and lock it with only one carrier? its like apple coming out with a phone locking it to TracFone or only T-Mobile and etc.
I know the FCC went hard on the companies that lock their phones, so they all made terms to be met in order to be eligible for an unlock, while they're all willing to unlock the phones after a certain time frame.

What you have to think is if any of the Carriers want it. It definitely seems like Verizon, who was originally at the forefront of this whole thing, decided that they rather make the $$ themselves and produce their own (garbage) hardware. Other carriers have always been behind and think that their customers will stick with them either way. I would imagine that LG charges a bunch more $$ for this phone than Alcatel and all that other garbage. (Tracfone is probably betting on their 1yr contract and impossible to unlock policy to make up the difference, and the fact that most customers will stay after the 1yr...)

Ok so the Schok is now with the newest update, possible to just lock the browser from within the settings (very unsecure but may be ok for a temporary fix), and also I heard, pls correct if I am wrong, that TAG Lakewood does it for $15.

Also in my experience even not filtered Schok phones had issues. Additionally, many issues were hardware related (front screen dying, buttons etc) so you can hardly blame TAG for that.

Just curious, where can you buy it for $30? I see it on some sites for $80, (down from$100) And as far as I heard, some stores in Boro Park were selling it for $100++...

Ok this has probably been discussed in here somewhere but I cant find it and dont want to go through 70 pages right now.

These are the only 4g options right now??
I currently have a Go flip 3 and HATE it. I have had very bad experience with the alcatel phones, cheaply built, lots of lag and just overall not a great phone.

I have yet to own the Schok, although I keep on considering trying it out. I'm assuming that it wasn't so great based off the fact that the price dropped in half since it came out.
(Then again thats normal with phones, although it doesnt seem to be that way in the flip phone market. In addition I noticed that theres no gen.2 that has come out since.) if anybody has had any experience with this phone I would love to hear more about it!

If you currently have the go flip 3 then the Schok is AMAZING! If you had or have any other phone then it's just mediocre. it's OK in the beginning but slowly starts to breakdown overtime...

Carriers prioritize their own traffic over MVNOs
Prioritize meaning...? that people should have service in certain areas even for a voice call because there are too many people on the phone in that area??
