Deals/Deal Requests / Re: W Hotels 40% off the W Hotels mattress
« on: October 14, 2013, 05:37:29 PM »
Just FYI: Current 50% off deal doesn't seem to work on topper or frame.

I emailed CR and will let you know if they accommodate. For now I am just ordering the beds.

Might also want to get this:
https://www.whotelsthestore.com/item.asp?curr_item_id=47&cat_subcat_id=100

Anyone else have any thoughts on the featherbed. I mean they are still over $100 a piece ($115 with protector). What exactly is the purpose? To add more cushioning? I imagine it kinda feels like there is a down blanket spread out on the bed for you to lie on. Is that right?

Why don't you try the BRG for 50K and then do the 25K upgrade?
Don't think SPG is 30K anymore.

Check out this thread for CC info.

According to the chart it is 30k. If not it should be updated.

I want lounge access plus with the vouchers it kinda evens out (less spend too). But maybe...

Just curious,  are you familiar with the wiki?

Wiki should include some sort of experiences based on region.

For example w/o reading many pages I have no clue of a good location to go for VR cards in Monsey area.

Planning an App-o-rama for my kallah. She has good credit and just a couple of CC's (none of the ones with bonuses).

Can't go crazy with the spending ability. So thinking:

Amex:
MB Plat: 50k - $3k in 3 months
Starwoods: 30k - $5k in 6 months
? not sure for a 3rd: which is next best

All other brands:

Which are recommended - Need cards that are bonuses after $1k or less of spending.

General Discussion / Re: Hotel for Wedding Night?
« on: October 07, 2013, 02:21:35 PM »

However it was mentioned many times that you can email ahead of time that it is your wedding night and you may get an upgrade.

Wanna try this... Wedding is in a little over a month. I would assume it's too early for them to promise an upgrade because they don't yet know if they will have paid booking. Correct?

Should I email now?

I made an SPG reservation for a basic room in 3 SPG properties for wedding night (W hoboken, Tarrytown, and Parsippany). Gonna see which will offer an upgrade.

I did went to the 50th and 7th outlet, the most stocked one, It came out to 32.36. I would call before going in to make sure they have what you need and if not for them to order in to the store to save you 2 trips or paying for shipping. When mentioning peter don't mention how much it is supposed to be maybe you'd get it for cheaper.

Gr8. Thanks!

$10-$15 When I walked in to the store it rang up as 16.25! Not sure if I would've gotten that price had I not told them that it's 20

I am confused (and possibly didn't read all posts so please don't bite) but what's the bottom line with the store.

If I walk in and ask for the "peter" deal will they help? $33ish per shirt no shipping (bc of pickup)?

(Never been to the store, wanna check it out, interested in seeing their shoes in person - anyone ever try them?)

I still have the deal because CR promised to adjust for me because she took so long answering my q's straight that deal ended.

Just realized something amateur but in case anyone didn't realize.

You don't need to know which bedroom set you are getting to get mattresses. The only part that changes is the headboard and you don't even need one.

I plan on buying 2 dressers and a night stand and skipping the headboard.

Now just left to figure out whether to get full or queen - Queen is only $67 more so if I can fit it I can't see why not to get it.

General Discussion / Re: Price of wedding photographers - $4,000 expensive?
« on: September 09, 2013, 06:02:34 PM »
Don't remember everything offhand
i think it was 1 main album, two parent albums, 2 crews photographer, portrait package +edited video

And no if you are in the 1 man band market 4k is extremely expensive and you can find cheaper (about 2.5k - 3.5k)

What's a portrait package?

Also, I am trying to be cost-conscious but bH can afford to spend the extra money if I have to. The way I think of it is: Good one man band plus a singer is very good sound IME, doesn't take much away from the wedding and you can't take the band home with you. The pictures/video however has a much smaller gap in price and mediocre pics and video and bad service vs. the opposite for an extra 30% or so might be worth it. If it was $1.5k vs. $4k I'd say forget it but spending $3k on something I will always have to look at and possibly not like seems too risky to me.

I just hired a photographer and it ended up costing 4,500 for standard affair

Details on what was in the package?

I am the one man band + a singer level, is that what you mean by standard affair?

Paging SomethingFishy

BTW just curious. Were you implying that I was a troll (or whatever you call it) trying to peddle my photography?

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Gonna look into.

Asked my guy if I save much for one less videographer - didn't seem like it would be much - will ask again. I want 2 photo - 1 video is fine. I think he said I get a cd and will do all the editing for the video etc.

If anyone has a suggestion of a good bang-for-buck photographer please PM me.

BTW what's the deal with him having rights to use in his gallery - don't want my pics in public - is it standard practice to have to allow this?

Trying to get a handle on what is fair for a wedding photographer.

Got a quote from a guy who seems good (portfolio is very nice).

2 photographers and 2 video + a 1 big and 2 small albums for around $4k.

Can I do much better?

What have you guys paid?

Cool.

So you had it on the floor at first? I wouldn't be able to handle that.
