Up In The Air / Re: Canceling BA reservation
« on: July 27, 2016, 01:19:22 AM »
For some reason I am unable to cancel my award ticket online. Tried on laptop and phone and it keeps on saying system error.... I booked the flight last week for a flight in a month from now. If I call will I get the deal that I just lose the taxes, same as online?

Not that I'm aware of.

But then again, I can't even get it to work in the first place, so who knows.
Shame - this could have been better than an assistant!

Are your ponds fenced in?

What do you do about kids and safety?

Looking to buy a decent robotic pool cleaner for my pool. Last year I did it manually, and while effective it took a lot of time. I don't even know where to begin looking for one and what to look for in such a cleaner. Any recommendations on models, where to buy and what to look for etc?

That was exactly my schedule, totally doable. I hope to go back for longer in the fall/early winter, but 3.5 days on the ground is definitely enough to see the sights.

You may want to be careful about the beach (see my post here).
+1 we had 3 days and felt it was adequate as well. That being said I would totally go back.

I wouldn't bother with the beaches there unless you have a lot of time as you can go to the beach anywhere. My opinion would be not to spend Shabbos there and just skip the beach. It's really hot there now so you may be better off not being there Shabbos in any case.

Regarding getting there you can route through the Bahamas, Mexico or the Cayman islands. Check the national carrier for each of those countries and see when they fly etc. Interjet also flies from Cancun. Your best bet will likely be Cancun.

Definitely going to give Vinales some thought. Looks really cool. I don't see how I'd get in the scuba diving that way however the trip isn't about the diving!

I didn't do any work on the affidavit. I was under the impression I can self license my "support for the Cuban people" trip. What do I need to do beforehand?

I am game for a ride in that car  :) Hard to beat - I sent him an email.

I need to find his info, I'll post it in a bit.

In the meantime, what's your routing?
Flying on United EWR to Nassau and then connecting 3 hours later on Cubana to Havana. I know Cubana doesn't have a great reputation but it's a short flight and hoping all will work out. Return is through Cancun. Cubana to Cancun and then Dynamic airways to JFK. Total ticket cost was 610 so not to crazy.

I didn't want to go in through Mexico as I was told I'd have to clear Mexican customs and I didn't want issues with my food. This way I just have the Cubans to worry about.

So would I :))... No way that it'll be done by then.

Do not rent a car in Cuba. Other than the obvious - the terrilbe, unmarked roads, the old, beaten up and problem-prone cars - if you get in to any kind of accident, even a minor fender-bender, you cannot leave the country until it's resolved. And with Cuban bureaucracy, that often takes months. And if your determined to be a flight risk, you get free lodging for the duration in the local jail.

So, hire a driver or take the bus.
So glad you are warning me about the car rental. I am definitely going to cancel my reservation. Wow. Do you know of any reasonable drivers for getting around?

I am going the week after Pesach.

Something Fishy would love to see your report.

We plan on spending 2 days in Havana - booking through Airbnb and another day and half in Trinidad. I also plan to scuba dive in the Bay of Pigs.

I plan on renting a car there. Is that wise? Trinidad is far and I like to have my own wheels so I can control the schedule. In Trinidad itself there are slim pickings on Airbnb. As per  Lonely planet there's no reason not to just book something when I get there. Is that crazy? I am going with friends and not my wife and kids so that does make things easier  :)

. Bought it also from CSo for 325.
They were quoting 375 however they were running a special with 50 off. I'm pretty sure anyone here who did it by them didn't spend more than the 325 or so. My wife is going to be excited she has no idea.... Actually I will be - she won't make turn on the car in the morning for her before she goes out with the kids  :)
