Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Re: Spain Master Thread

And BCN and MAD arent that close to each other so its not like your gonna HAVE to go again if you end up in MAD again.
You don't need more than 2 days in BCN IMO. Whether you should save it for another trip with MAD and elsewhere. I don't know how your kids travel to know if the stop for 2 days would bother them, though I wouldn't view it as a stop, more of a small trip since a stop that affects kids is usually an in-airport or quick overnight stop.
Thanks for the helpful replies! I am going to try to pull this off...

Going to Israel for Sukkos. On the way home I can either fly to Barcelona for 2 days (early October) or just stay longer in Israel and get a direct flight home. I have a 6 month old and a 2.5 year old in tow... I am obviously torn between my desire to see Barcelona vs. the convenience of a direct flight home due to the kids.

Is Barcelona nice enough to make it worth it? Is it silly to go to Barcelona for just 2 days when really I should be spending more time in Spain and therefore I should just go a different time?

Thank you!

How did you get around in Nairobi?
How did you get to the Masia Mara?
I booked everything through a tour operator aside from the Hilton. They were able to get us a better rate at the safari lodge and additionally they provided us with a private 4 by 4 safari jeep with a driver for our entire trip. Our driver picked us up from the airport and drove us everywhere until we returned to the airport the following week. Nairobi is not the kind of city to drive around yourself.

Where did you stay?
I spent 2 nights in the Hilton in Nairobi which I found to be decent for an East African hotel. Again this is not London, Paris or NY.
We then went to the Masai Mara and spent 5 nights in the Ashnil Mara Camp which is right on the Mara river. Location couldn't have been better. It wasn't cheap though although not crazy expensive either and points were worthless aside from the Hilton (unless you consider the fact that I sold points to fund this expensive trip!).

It was a really amazing trip however, and well worth it IMHO. I found the game to better then the South African parks or Chobe in Botswana.

Great TR!! Really amazing - I spent a week in Kenya last year and reading your report brought back such amazing memories. Seems like you had really nice sightings as well. Well done. How did your timing work out with the migration?

This is what I hate most about the photography business. What I'd like to be paid for is my time, vision, creativity- not absurd prices for an 8x10 print!

I don't know how any photographer can justify charging $100 for a 5x7 print of your photoshoot.

Especially in the digital age.
That's where they make their money. It's not a justify thing in a free market.

Would you rather pay 400 dollars for a photo shoot or 100 dollars and then get to choose along the way which pictures you want? This way your initial investment is low and you only spend more if you are actually happy with the product. I'm not a professional photographer btw.

I have borrowed from a friend a lightweight talis that was meant for travelling or hiking. Not sure where he got it from but I love using it when I am travelling light.

Seems it's about time I wrote up a new lesson... Coming up shortly: Light for Landscape Photography.

Hope to have it done this week.
Just in time for my trip to St John!

Best chair in the world?   Your stairs!!

You can sit on a stair with your feet a few stairs down. I confirmed with my Rav that it's fine. You are sitting on the floor. There is no halacha that your feet need to be on a surface within 12 inches of your rear, rather that you sit on the floor. If you dug a hole in your floor for your feet to dangle comfortably that would be fine and the stairs accomplish that beautifully! :)
Good to know and it makes a lot of sense.

Civic is more of a teen car.
Interesting concept! That's another reason to avoid the civic  ;)

Keep in mind civic insurance and accord insurance may make up the difference in lease price.
Insurance is a good point as I am currently only paying approx. 150 IIRC per 6 months or so on the Camry as I didn't take comprehensive and I got a multi car discount etc.

Why would there be a large difference between a civic and accord? Crash ratings?

Tell me more.
+1 - after sinking about 1k in the used camry I just bought (04 model for around 4K) which is allegedly in great shape I am seriously thinking of selling and just leasing. If I am anyways spending 1 to 1.4K a year on repairs plus car depreciation I feel like I am better off leasing something cheap like a civic etc. and not dealing with the hassle of car repairs - plus I would be driving a new model.

Am I missing something here? I am not in a rush so I can technically wait until there's a good deal on a lower end base model sedan.

I couldn't get anywhere with them. I ended up downgrading.
I am leaning that way now too. Frustrating!
