Tech Talk / Re: Straight Talk
« on: December 17, 2013, 06:00:59 PM »
Keep in mind that Straight Talk doesn't have LTE data, only HSPA+. Its perfectly fine for basic web browsing, but not too great for heavy streaming.
Just to update, Straight Talk now offers LTE through ATT (there may be no mention of it, but it is). I've been on it for a few weeks on my Nexus 5, it is way faster and more consistent than the previous HSPA+. Note that if your ST SIM is more than a few months old and using the att.mvno APN, you will need to buy a new SIM using tfdata APN in order to use LTE.

A Chase rep once told me she too has no idea how they track it down, but somehow they mange to do it
What's especially interesting is what happens when there are multiple people with same name, do they all get the history?

Credit Cards / Re: Alaska Airlines 50k bonus miles card

If not done at the same time, the second will be flagged as a duplicate.
That's what it seems. I only saw this thread after I applied. Hope it ends up as one pull.

Applied this morning, instantly approved. Applied again an hour ago, said under review. Called recon, lady said 2nd app had been auto rejected for duplicate. She was skeptical about needing 2nd card, so I explained that I need 2 cards for pers./biz., also threw in that I am switching to Alaska's program instead of Delta (which is true, I don't condone lying). That did the trick. She confirmed some info about my balances at other banks, then approved me, and confirmed bonus.

Thanks Dan and this thread for the tips.

Any method (besides payment) of reinstating United miles that expired on 12/1? Or if I try calling anything in particular I can say?

Anyone know the taxes+fees for an AA award on CX JFK-YVR round trip? BA is $110. AA.com doesn't show CX awards.

Searched around but couldn't find.

Tech Talk / Re: International Sim Discussion

No different than the 4
Then I'm even more flabbergasted that they didn't make it simpler in the 5. For a frequent traveller its a real annoyance, trying to switch SIMs while on a plane or in an airport is incredibly difficult.

Just curious, does anyone else think its ridiculous how difficult it is to switch SIM cards in the iphone 5?

A friend of mine just got a 3,000shek bill from Orange.
Nice. Though by Verizon standards that's chump change, there have been many cases with more than that amount, and with a dollar sign.

I noticed recently that my phone is getting a little sluggish. Sometimes when going to the home-screen it stays blank for like 5 seconds before I can see the apps. Is there a way to see what's causing that?
I've been experiencing this for the past few months as well. I'm afraid that the G-Nex is struggling to keep up with the newest Jelly Bean updates. After all, it is an ancient phone at this point (in tech years). I think I'll reluctantly have to grab the X when it comes out.

Downgrade??? Or did you mean to say upgrade
Are you saying that Golan is better than Orange? Because that would be more than "decent," I've never had issues with Orange anywhere.

Have you used Orange in the past, and if so, is it a big downgrade?

Can anyone who has extensively used Golan Telecom (i.e. for several months and in many areas of the country) describe how fast and reliable their service is for voice and HSPA+ data?
