Up In The Air / Jetstar on OW award debacle
« on: November 08, 2011, 02:28:18 PM »
i booked a OneWorld award for my trip to Australia, and included some Jetstar segments that had QF flight numbers associated with it.

It was ticketed in September.

2 days ago, a flight opened up that had nothing to do with the jetstar part and i called aa to make a switch which included paying a redeposit fee and reissue of the ticket since i changed the routing with the switch.

today, i get an email to call aa about my reservation

i call aa, and they tell me it cant be ticketed since jetstar cannot be used for a oneworld award, only for an all partner award. i tell her she must be mistaken since i know people that used it without a problem and besides, this ticket was ticketed already in Sept! it only needed to be reticketed for an unrelated route change!

i elevate the call to a supervisor who informs me of the same, and that the agent who originally booked my ticket was probably new and wasnt aware of all the rules. i explain to her that before it was ticketed, it was in the queue a bunch of times and rejected for other issues - never because of jetstar!
she offered to take the jetstar portion out of the OW and ticket it separately as an All Partner Award, and credit my account for the 30k miles it would cost for the 3 tickets. i agree, and she puts me on hold.
5 minutes later, she comes back and OOOPS.... she made a mistake, its 30k for one way, 60k rt and shes only authorized to credit 30k
so she tells me that to buy the ticket outright would cost $650 for the 3 of us, so she would book the tickets and send me vouchers for the 650. problem is that im waiting for the preceeding flight to open up earlier and change the first jetstar flight to an earlier as well, saving me a full day on the trip. with a mileage ticket, thats perfectly fine, but for a paid ticket im subjected to a myriad of fees and fare differences. (besides the fact that i can buy aa vouchers for less than 80% of face)

basically, they screwed me. WHAT TO DO? anybody have ideas?

Up In The Air / Amex Premium Baggage Protection on an award ticket
« on: July 29, 2011, 09:58:38 AM »
does anyone know definitively whether an award trip is a covered trip? as soon as the airline charges me the taxes and fees the 9.95 is charged. but when i called in today to make a claim, the rep told me the actual airfare must be purchased with the amex in order to b covered. i do recall that i was once reimbursed for delayed luggage on an award ticket. is there an official policy on this, or is it a ymmv situation?

Up In The Air / co free connection question
« on: July 12, 2011, 07:29:44 AM »
to get the free connection, is the 24 hours counted from when the flight leaves or from when it arrives?
so if i had a flight on the 26th ewr-tlv at 4:15pm, and i wanted to add a connection to the beginning (the 25th) from yyz-ewr, can i take a 3:30 flight that arrives at 4:30?

Tech Talk / Photo Editing Help
« on: July 03, 2011, 08:47:31 PM »
i cropped my photos to 4x6 but my frame eats up about .25 inch from all the sides, not showing the whole picture. is there a way to add a 1/4 inch black border around the photo, but keeping it still 4x6 and not losing anything from the picture? in other words, im looking to shrink my 4x6 by a quarter inch on all sides and put a black border in its place. i have photoshop elements 9 and the free apps such as picasa.
thanks

i'm thinking of leaving bangkok to chiang mai thursday eve, so i would be in cm fri, shabbos, sun and mon. sometime tues i would fly chiang mai - phuket and be there until fri morning when i would fly to SIN for fri, shabbos and sunday.
i assume its not possible to go to koh samui instead of phuket if i also want to visit Singapore

Is there enough time in bangkok?
is there enough/too much time in singapore?
is singapore good for a shabbos stay?
any other feedback/tips?
too much time in chiang mai?

or i could flip around bkk and sin (arrive in sin instead of bkk) and be in bkk for shabbos

thanks
