Switzerland 36hrs I just did a quick switzerland stoppover and  i am not writing a full tr but i wanted to give a short overview because there were a lot of thing in my planning that were annoying to figure out.

I landed in ZRH at 3:30 pm and it was very easy moving through the airport (there is no passport control for flights arriving from inside the EU), i went to the sbb desk to book a train ticket for lucerne where i was staying, they also exchange money at the going rate (or at least a better rate than the other airport changers). The trains to lucerne leave approximately every half hr with most of them requiring a pretty simple transfer in the zurich main station. When i got to lucerne train/bus station i took the bus to my hotel as i was not staying in the central area, the views from lucerne are on the lake so i chose to stay in a more secluded part with nicer views of the mountains (but not staying in lucerne caused a bit of a headache later on). The bus station is very easy to navigate with each bus having a designated station, they do leave exactly on time but they do not run so frequently for example at night they are only once an hour. I did not buy a swiss saver day pass (which is probably the best bet for someone going around for a short amount of time) rather i got the tell pass which covers the lucerne region specifically and it includes all trains buses trams and ferries but the main reason i got it is because it covers the lifts and cable cars on the mountains. The pass has a interesting fare base where it gets cheaper per day that you buy, i got 2 days which was 110 chf (although that is the winter rate the summer rate will cost 180 for the 2 day pass).

The next morning i got up early to spend the day on mt titlis which is around an hour away, but the bus schedule did not play in my favor, i missed the first bus into main lucerne causing me to wait half an hour for the second one, by that time i missed the bus going to the mountain and had to wait for the next bus which was in 20 minutes. From the bus towards the mountains you transfer to a train and by the train station there is a shuttle to the base of the mountain. I had the tell pass so i did not need to pay for the cable cars but i still needed to get the physical ticket which was very simple. On Mt Titlis there is a cable car system which takes you most of the way up the mountain but to get to the top where the views of the whole expanse of the alps are you need to take another larger rotating cable car which technically is a separate ticket but my pass covered it. One mistake i made was that the tell pass while it covers the lifts it only gives you one ride up on the larger cable car to the top, i didnt know this and i went down but when i tried going back up i got stopped at the turnstiles, so i had to buy another ticket up for 35 chf. The lifts stop at 4:30 - 5:00 depending on time of year, but if you get up before 12 it is more than enough time to see all the views and do a few activities. I personally went snowmobiling which was fun but not exhilarating, it took me 15 minutes to get bored of it. Obviously there is skiing but its not my thing, and during the winter there are other light snow activities and in the summer there is biking and a lake, however i was in between seasons and most activities were closed but it was still very enjoyable. I started going down at 4:20 even though everything officialy closes at 5, because i did not want to deal with the rush as there were a lot of tourists (mostly chinese). It does take a while to get down so 40 minutes was not so early but enough that we did not have to wait in line to get a cable car back down. The train back was the same as the way there, but i had to then get a bus back to my hotel to pick up my luggage before heading over to the airport which wasted an hour of time.

I could give more details but i dont need to waste my time explaining that the alps look very nice (if you want info on that pm me or click here) i just wanted to go thru the basic layout and i hope this can help someone else.

Re: Otzar Hahochma
Can I use this to search for specific pusukim in the Torah?
 Basic mikrah?
You cannot use the main search bar for tanach or shas (it will work but it will be difficult to search through the results til you find a mikroos gedolos and even then the reference marker will be on the pasuk which is quoted in the meforash). i do not have the program open in front of me but if you look under the lower search bar there are a few buttons with the names of chumash neviim kesuvim mishna medrash shas bavli and yerushalmi, click on them and it will open up the different seforim. that is how i remember using the hd version, i may not be exactly accurate.

Re: HELP with the sound of my speaker of my laptop
I have a almost a new laptop a few weeks ago i put off my sound of the speaker and since then its not working only with had phones ? I tried everything they say u should do online . if someone can please help me with that ?
it is possible (hard to say without knowing the model) that at the top of the keyboard there are various function control buttons, there is a speaker mute button there and the volume will not work from the speaker only via headphones. I had a similar experience, although not with volume controls, and online tech support often overlook obvious things.

Re: REVIVE THE FLIP PHONE
Tell him to remove the back cover and remove the battery and send you a picture of the phone.
Or ask him to dial *#06#.
If they canít provide you this info then you should not buy from them
I dont know about that model phone, but in my experience flip phones will not give the device info by dialing *#06#

Please comment, criticize and let me know what i can add (i wanted to just start and throw it out there before i invested too much time). If someone wants to help out i can share the doc with them but i didnt want to make it public with my info on it so for now its published as is to the web via google sheets.

Re: Hertz free-to-go-pass
Good example of how if could pay for itself with 1 rental.
Im not so sure, i wouldnt lay out $100 for that chance, it hasnt happened to me in the past and is not something i am too worried about. would you buy 100 dollars of insurance for that eventuality? it seems expensive.
If you dont want to deal with the hassle in the first place then i understand that it might be worth to pay for the service, but again, i dont see myself paying $100 for someone to fill up my tank.

Hertz website is a disaster 😡. Really annoying to use.
It is annoying, but if you use it on incognito or dont allow cookies it helps (depending on what bothers you)

Re: REVIVE THE PHONE WITH A KEYBOARD
But there are costs involved, especially if you have to design/create custom apps for each service (e.g. Spotify, Waze etc.) adapted to the device.
Especially true seeing as the market gets slimmer and slimmer the less 'kosher' the phone is. While i personally would like spotify on my phone, it seems like an added cost which will be damaging to the overall product from a sellers perspective.

Re: REVIVE THE PHONE WITH A KEYBOARD
Agreed. For that price I could just go filter a smartphone. Although, seems like some people are looking for a smartphone with a actual keyboard. However, I think that most people are looking for a kosher phone. Therefore, having certain apps would be detrimental to the phone and not a added benefit.
I think before the discussion moves into which apps, it should be if there should be apps.
(unless making two software models, and being able to justify the costs of the non-'kosher' one)

Re: REVIVE THE PHONE WITH A KEYBOARD
Well, I was thinking mostly about EY, but I can imagine that there's a market for non-smartphones that can benefit from the ability to communicate over alternative networks/platforms other than the traditional phone providers.
Thats possible.
I was thinking of a brochure i saw explaining the lack of qwerty phones, in their words non smartphones are used solely by seniors who dont need texting or by mafia members. I naturally assumed when you said a global hit you were referring to the global mafia  :)

Re: Lakewood covid cases I was just reading through the thread, its quite popcorn worthy, and i came across this post,
Yeah I just didn't wanna be the guy to say it...

The CDC says 10 days but explicitly says 14 days is ideal and the only reason they say 10 is bc people wouldn't listen Imagine if one was told meat isn't really Kosher but they can be meikel because people won't listen if they say it's assur... Endangering people is infinitely worse than eating trief.
I know it doesnt really come in to the discussion but the gemara actually does say that meat would be assur after the churabn if not for the fact that its a gzeira she'ain hatzibur yecholim laamod bo, meaning people wouldnt listen. just thought i would point that out

Re: ISO: Indoor Folding Chairs I have chairs from gold furnishings, a lakewood company. Theyre padded and if looks are your main priority (meaning theyre not getting such heavy usage) they are very nice . Be aware that the frame is not super strong so if you are getting them for heavier people it might not be the best chair, but for your average guy (under 200 pounds) it supports nicely. Also they are pretty narrow, im sure you can get the specs from the them, which is good if youre looking to seat a lot of people but maybe uncomfortable for a long seder (or an average sheva brachos)

Re: What trading platform is recommended for buying cryptocurrencies?
How is buying cryptocurrency investing in the technology? Isn't that like buying an Iphone to invest in apple (or wireless communication)?
I'm not understanding the analogy...
I think his point is that when you buy an iphone you are not getting the value of the company apple, rather the value that you do have is merely the product of the company. In the case of an iphone, the phone itself has real value, independent of apple, and even if apple would crash tomorrow the phone would be worth the same. Stocks on the other hand, when they are traded responsibly, have the value of the company, the value of a profitable company will always remain as long as it is backed by assets and profits, and over the long run the stock will follow suit because they are not a product, rather a share of the company (short-term however, the price may not always accurately portray the value, because it depends on what other people will pay on any given day). Cryptocurrencies are not a backed by the value of the technology that created them, they are only the products, and their value is not connected to the value of the company/technology that created them. I am no expert but i think thats the idea.

Re: What trading platform is recommended for buying cryptocurrencies?
Understood.... I think. Let me clarify: cryptocurrencies aren't stocks. You're also not investing in the technology, per se. They are products with (usually) limited supply, which (should) have real world case use, thereby giving it a value. It is an asset. Whether it has short-term or long-term value or not depends on many things, just like any other investment. None of that makes it "imagination."
I agree they most definitely are not imagination. However the value, like you say, is not grounded in their inherit value, only what someone else will pay as opposed to stocks that are backed by the companies assets and profits.
You also write that you own a piece of the blockchain. Thats true, and it would create inherit value if you could walk into their server farms and grab a computer, but you cant, because you dont own it merely have the access. Practically the only use for those pieces of blockchain is as currency, the value of which is solely dependent on whether other people value it (which is not different from any currency, except that people have more faith in the american government than they do in the creators of cyrpto to guarantee it will retain value)
The fact that there is not an infinite supply doesnt cause value, it only changes the price

Nobody said this didn't happen. But how does 5 stories prove that there were hundreds of cancellations?
Quote from: yeshivaworldnews
We can now report that the amount of cancellations are exactly as we originally reported Ė and possibly worse.
maybe they have a lot more stories sent in or its possibly just fake news. are you surprised? They probably just wanted to defend themselves from the other website by calling them fake news

Re: What are we going to do Chol Hamoed??
There is no attraction anymore under the radar, they are all JAM packed Chol Hamoed.
Its not true. I have went to places in the tri-state on groupon that there were very few yidden there (and the ones that were there didnt 'shter the matzav'). If people would just get a bit more open-minded about what is considered 'fun' they wouldnt all end up in the same places, but as of now most people just go bowling every year. I have nothing against it, i also went bowling today but dont say that everywhere is packed, its just bowling/golf/arcades/science center/zoo. If you stop living on repeat and you will see different results

Re: What are we going to do Chol Hamoed??
we've made waiting on long lines in six flags fun, or a simple trip to the zoo.

show your kids that its fun and your excited and usually their attitude changes aswell (it can take time)
Not exactly off the beaten path, but like you say it depends on attitude. With that mindset you can do other things as well that might be less crowded

Re: Waze or GPS only device
All these flip phones with any app you want are also smartphones that happen to flip.
Its true with some of them the OS can support apps, but to call them smartphones is simply not true from two angles.
First the technical aspect - they do not have the capability to run apps like a smartphone. (there are two 'dangers' of technology 1: doing the wrong thing 2: doing the right thing. there are many people who dont have smartphones purely because (the gedolim say so, and) because of the distraction and all the rest of it. A flip phone can never reach that level of distraction/dependency etc. it simply isnt able.)
Second - the hashkafa aspect. Its hard to put in words for those who dont live in the flip-phone circles, but there is a very real difference between having a smartphone with a filter and having a flip phone with a filter
[Im sure you understand]
I have never owned a smartphone.

Back to my original point, for someone who wants a waze or waze+google maps phone, from what I've been told, iPhone allows you to block everything with their parental controls. So, you can't get any more apps or get on the internet itself just use the apps that are there already.
I dont know about iphones, but i have seen it done on androids and the level of kashrus was.... lacking. And yes it was done smartly with all of the aspects thought to be taken care of, but there are always loopholes.

I am not trying to give a shmuz, i just felt the need to raise awareness that this is really not a good idea. Its possible iphones are different

Re: BitCoin Master Thread
Is there a strategy for staggering the profit taking to lock in some (and more over time) gains but still play for upside?

Practical question, someone bought Doge a few days ago and already tripled their money. How much do you sell at this point? A half? Two thirds? Depends on your risk appetite?
The fact that you already have the item should never be considered a reason for keeping it. Only invest however much you would according to the risks of the investment and how much you can afford to lose.
For example, if you invested $5000 at 5 cents and now its worth 20 cents you made 400% profit at 20000. If you would invest $20000 only then is it worth it to hold your investment. If you would invest $10000 then sell half and hold half. But dont look at the fact that you already have it as a reason to hold.

Edit: This is more applicable for highly volitale stocks. In theory it applies to all investments, but those with a proven history you should use a wider time frame to analyze the value of the investment, the value of, lets say a quarter, as opposed to the value on any given day.
