Lighters are allowed on planes even in the US. Gasoline is not allowed.

So what is stop someone from starting fires on a plane? If I wanted to cause damage, wouldn't a few people starting fires on a plane do serious damage?

Up In The Air / Smoking on a flight
« on: October 27, 2016, 10:04:52 AM »
Last week I travelled on AC85 from TLV to YYZ. With about 3-4 hours left in the flight, an alarm from the bathroom went off. I thought it was someone who needed help, but it turned out someone thought it would be wise to smoke on a plane, and it was the smoke alarm. The flight attendants handled the situation very professionally, and described the process. When we landed we had to wait a few minutes for the police to take the man off the plane. I have no complaints about how it was handled.

What I want to know is: How did the man light his cigarette? If it was using a lighter or matches, what is to stop someone from bringing on 2.9 oz of gasoline and lighting a match or lighter, and blowing the gas up? Anyone know how this could have gotten past security in Ben Gurion?

General Discussion / Re: All Halocha Shailos and teiffa Questions

It applies to all kinds of ovens (according to most poskim even microwaves) however some say that the sun or similar is not under the issur (see chelkas binyomin siman 113 seif 13)

Why does it not apply to the sun? How do we differentiate between different sources of heat (sun & microwave vs gas and electric)?

Does bishul akum apply to an electric stove? Is it only fire? What about other sources of heat? Could a non-jew use the sun (if it is hot enough) to cook an egg for you? I am asking because I have an electric stove for the first time, and thought maybe there is a difference between electric heat and gas heat.

Do any Poskim discuss this?

Hi,

I searched but did not see a thread like this. If there is one, please merge/show me.

We are travelling with a 4 yr old and 1 year old on AC to TLV. Any tips for keeping them busy in the airport/plane? Any suggestions of toys or things to get that are good for a plane?

Going in for a wedding, staying near the aggudah. Can anyone recommend my best options for milchig fast food, and fleishigs fast food. (For fleishigs is there anything a bit higher end like douggies in the states)?

Has anyone ever uttered the words "higher end like Dougies"? What do you normally eat that Dougies is considered higher end?

Really crummy of them to value at 3cpm.

Shouldn't it be valued at how much they sell them at?
