Tech Talk / Deal request: wireless router
« on: February 07, 2017, 02:10:01 PM »
Hi all, I could use some advice in finding a new wireless router. My current router is almost 5 years old; it's a Belkin N300. I'm thinking newer technology might help with streaming and just many of the lag/slow issues that i've been having. Any advice would be great.

Price point would be ideally under $70. We run quiet a few devices and do a lot of streaming.

Deals/Deal Requests / deal request: printer with multi page scanner
« on: August 09, 2016, 04:52:22 PM »

I'm looking for a printer with a multi page scanner, ideally under $60. Anyone have any options? Preference is for a canon but it can be a different brand too. Also looking for a brand that the ink isn't too expensive.

Thanks :)

Up In The Air / LGA > YUL domestic or international?
« on: June 23, 2016, 06:40:50 PM »
This might be a stupid question, but I was wondering if flying from LGA to YUL is considered a domestic or an international flight? I once heard that it is considered domestic (because you don't clear customs in NY). If anyone can please advise that would be great.

Credit Cards And Finance / gift card, amex offer, fraud
« on: October 30, 2015, 03:07:50 PM »
I'm not sure where to post this, so i'll just put it here.

So, during the sams club offer i bought a bunch of gift cards. most ended up being used, but i had four left on my loaded onto my walmart account (was waiting for my new baby to be born to use the rest of the funds). well, on oct 17 i received an e-mail saying that my walmart info was updated. being that it was shabbos i didn't pay attention and planned on looking into the issue a little later. the next day my daughter was born and needless to say i've been a bit busy. fast forward to today, my spouse went to walmart to buy some items for the baby. while trying to check out, it was revealed that the gift card had a $0 balance. finding this fishy i went to log into my walmat account to see what was going on. login didn't work. when i went to reset my password it said that my e-mail didn't exist. i called walmart and a long story short, someone used ALL of my funds to purchase e-gift cards, walmart said there is nothing they can do because it was e-gift cards and now i'm out the money. their only recommendation was to file a police report and dispute the charge with the bank.

my question is this, because these gift cards were purchased using an amex offer, and i was credited for the purchase (in total i paid $30 for the remaining gift cards) is there anything amex can do for me or am i just out that money? ugh this is so upsetting :(
any advice would be appreciated

hi all,

on friday, erev shabbos my grandmother was in italy (milan) and she slipped on the floor and broke her hip. the problem is that her travelers insurance ran out the day before. (for some reason she didn't buy extra for this last separate part of the trip). she needs surgery but her doc recommnded that she wait until she returns to the states. she is supposed to come back on monday.

a few questions:
1- does anyone know how it works in hospitals in italy with no insurance (like will they charge her an arm and a leg for her stay)?
2- how can she fly between milan-jfk laying flat only (is that even possible?)
3- can anyone help us with this?

thank you :)

Credit Cards And Finance / downgrade spg- too many blue cash cards
« on: June 25, 2013, 06:35:35 PM »
Hi all,

So in a nut shell, my spg is going to turn one in a few days. I've called numerous times, on different days, and alas no retention bonus/incentives will be given. I just called amex to downgrade my SPG to a blue cash, the lady on the phone said that she can't do it because the blue cash only allows for a $2k credit limit and my spg is $5k. She did sound new, so she might be totally wrong. Has anyone encountered this type of situation before?

thanks :)

fyi- i do plan on HUCA (just wanted to get some input from others)

So I applied for 2 citi aa cards back in January. One was a mastercard (40,000 offer is spent 3k in 5 months), the other was a platinum visa (30,000 if spent 3k in 5 months). Anyways, spent and received the points on the visa right away. It took me a bit longer, but in March I finished the threshold for the mastercard. The statement closed, and we didn't get out points. Called citi, they told me to wait to billing cycles. I just called them again today, and they said that the points for the mastercard offer can only be given after the 5 months have passed. Is this true? For months I've been calling and they didn't mention anything like this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Credit Cards And Finance / BA new card, AF question
« on: February 05, 2013, 01:45:45 PM »
hi all,

a friend of mine signed up and was approved for a new BA card. she got 50k miles bonus. at the end of her first billing cycle she was charged the $95 annual fee. should she cancel the card? when she called chase they said that she can't downgrade the card to anything free, and if she cancels now, which is less than 60 days since the card was opened, it will not effect her credit. is all of this true?

Up In The Air / aa free bag card question
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:08:48 PM »
so last week i got a new aa gold visa card. on the pamphlet it mentioned about the free bag offer. when i called citi, they said that the card does not come with the offer, but since the invitation mentioned the free bag, they will dispute it.

the main problem: i want to book a flight via aa on orbitz from jfk to lax. if my card does not have the free bag, can i use someone else's skymiles number (who has a platinum card) and get the free bag? how does this exactly work, i'm a bit confused.

Credit Cards And Finance / citi cards- advice
« on: January 10, 2013, 01:22:43 PM »
hi all, so i have actually been browsing around before i ask this question (maybe not enough), but anyways, i was wondering which citi cards to get next? aa has an offer for 40k miles while the citibank website has only 30k miles. i would like to do a 2bm with citi, but i'm at a bit of a loss as to which cards to get and if i should go through aa's website or citis website, or both?
