Deals/Deal Requests / Re: woot off going on now
« on: May 24, 2016, 08:44:34 AM »
Woot off going on today.

I don't have a direct line to the seller.  All I have is the auction company who is acting as a middle man right now.  They communicated with the seller who refused to refund the difference.

I'm curious as to what you all would do based on my recent experience.

A local online auction platform (not eBay) was conducting several auctions on behalf of a radio company.  This auction had many items, but in particular a group of 5 items, all exactly the same, all with the same terms.  The items had an unknown reserve amount set on them.  The item's opening bid is $75, and bid increments must be at least $75.

The item of interest in this lot had a current bid by someone else of $75, which did not meet the reserve.  All items in this group had a bid amount of $75.  None of them met the reserve.   I bid $155 on one item and had the top bid, but that bid amount did not meet the minimum reserve.  I bid $225 which met the reserve.  I won the auction.  No one else bid past $75 on any other item in that group except me.

After the auction ended, the auction sponsor decided to remove all reserves.   The other items in that group (the exact same items as mine with the same terms) all sold for $75, below the original reserve.

I contacted the auction platform who stated the reserve on all items in this group was $225 and at the end of the auction, the auction sponsor decided to remove all reserves. I kindly asked the auction platform to refund the difference between my old top bid and the reserve bid ($225 - $155) plus associated taxes and fees:

Removing reserve prices after the completion of an auction is not mentioned in your site's FAQ or Terms of Service.

"The reserve price is a price that is set by the seller. A reserve price is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for the item."

Since the station had changed the terms of the auction by removing the reserve prices after the auction has ended, I'm requesting that you cancel my proxy bid of $225 and enforce my bid of $155 and refund the difference ($70 + premium + tax).

They refused.  I purchased this with a Citi TYP card (I was autocharged before I could pay with my AMEX).    The item is worth about $500 and is a great value.  I don't open frivolous disputes, or disputes where I'm in the wrong.  What do you think - is it worth opening a dispute with Citi to get the $70+ back?

I'm trying to book a BA Avios award on AA metal for 2 passengers, but having a hard time finding 2 award seats even when searching segments one at a time.  There are plenty of awards for 1 passenger, however.  Are AA partner awards the type of awards that are released one seat at a time?  So if I book one seat, there's a chance another seat will open up right after I book it?

How much did you pay for the upgrade?

This is my first time requesting compensation from UA.  I've requested compensation from other airlines in the past as a result of excessive delays, but what happened to me below was a first.  I was offered $150, but I think I deserve more.  What do you think?

I was on UAxxxx on nn OCT 2015. My Confirmation number is xxxxxx. On
this flight, we had to make an emergency landing in Memphis, crash
positions and all, because of mechanical/engine problems on this plane.
This was easily the scariest moment of my life. We landed in Memphis,
and the problems continued there. I waited in line for close to two
hours to get rebooked. It took this long because your computers were
down, and the only 2 agents that could handle these tasks had to call in
to the central reservations line for every rebooking. The agents were
able to get every passenger they handled a confirmed seat on every
flight. For some reason, they could only "hold" a seat for me from IAH
to SAN, but could not get me an assigned seat. I had paid for a first
class upgrade. When I got my new flight details to IAH, several first
class seats were open between IAH-SAN, but the agents did not assign me
a seat. By the time I had finally landed in IAH, all first class seats
were gone, and my only option was a middle seat in the back of coach.
Agents in IAH said this was mishandled by the Memphis agents and that
they should have assigned me a seat. IAH was unable to get me a first
class seat on that flight and instead moved me to a later flight. That
later flight ended up being delayed by two hours because of scheduling
and crew problems. I finally made it to my final destination after
midnight (west coast time), more than 8 hours after my scheduled landing
time. Also, because I was on a later first class flight, no meals were
served. Had I been on the correct first class flight, I would have
received a meal.

I am requesting compensation for the emergency landing we had to go
through, the 2 hour delay to get my reassigned flight, the lack of an
assigned seat causing me to have to move to a later flight, and a refund
of the first class upgrade.

So you loaded vanilla to bb?
OfficeMax.  Back of card says US Bank.  Sorry, that's what I get for not reading the entire thread, didn't realize you all were talking about Vanilla.

Found a bunch in CLE, and they loaded to BB with no problems.  Well, one problem - I wasn't quick enough to hit "Change Payment" a couple of times...

Nice! A lot of spend?

After the spend threshold for the bonus, not a whole lot.   Just a few UA flights here and there.

Wife got a $100 statement credit on her UMPE.  She's not much of a churner, so she'll take it.

I applied for the everyday card with the 25k link. Problem is I have no screen shot of the offer and I have no clue if it was 1000/2000/3000 spend. In the op's post its $2000. Is that standard for the 25k offer or has it been different for everyone?

They will also tell you the details in chat, and in that case you can take a screenshot and save it for later.

I have a friend who has a Sapphire preferred and his wife is an AU.  They are looking to open a Sapphire in her name.  Should she be removed as an AU first, or does it not matter in terms of trying to get an instant approval?  Yeah I've been around here for a few years but never had to deal with AUs since my wife has been uninterested in any this (until she recently got some targeted offers in the mail...).
