Okay, redirected from Bermuda thread. DW decided if we're just hitting the water, may as well go to Miami area and not have to bring food (even though she's usually the "let's pack homemade chicken burgers and meatballs, like we did in Kaui" and I'm the one reading the Backyward BBQ menu in my free time, but go figure).

Going next week Sunday to Wed. Decided to blow 90K on St regis Bal Harbour bc we only travel alone together every few years so YOLO. Few questions:

1) Any updates on the valet parking workaround? Is there local parking within walking (or cheap uber) distance? Is parking at the mall lots still "do-able"? Is it cheaper to just Lyft everywhere than renting a car?

2) I read many food reviews on this thread. I was thinking Harbour Grill (no onion rings), Fuego, and Backyard BBQ for dinners and 26, Carrot, and maybe Kosh for lunches? Does that sound right? Anything that should be switched in or out?

3) Activities - We're looking for 2-3 activities, and probably more water-based (weather permitting) than theme park type (e.g. Seaquarium, Jungle Island, etc). Something like kayaking and snorkeling type stuff. Any rec's, preferably near Bal Harbour?

Thanks so much!

Thanks all for your help. This is for 10 days from now, and seconds before booking the trip, I was overruled by DW who suggested that if we're just going to chill all day, we may as go somewhere that also has kosher restaurants so we don't have to deal with cooking, reheating, etc. So I thank you all and I will be taking my foruming talents to the South Beach thread.

Ask for extra fridge. I was in a different Fairmont and they didn't even charge for the additional fridge plus the room came with a fridge and was able to fit 7 days of dinners and heat up yourself.

Wiith what? Is there a Bermuda toaster gmach?

could be. the fairmont southhampton has private beach on site but you need quick shuttle to access it. fairmont hamilton has a private beautiful beach club but shuttle takes 20 min to get you there. on other hand their pools are much nicer than the southmapton one and the reefs. really depends what youre looking for

Kind of looking for any/all the above. Quiet pools or beaches are both good; don't need one or the other. Is there a room upgrade I should look for? Are the Fairmonts (or Reefs) good with heating up food?

fairmont has two beautiful points properties which are basically the most luxurious hotels on the island. vrbo has some great options but those dont offer hotel like amenities nor could you pay with csr. dont miss crystal caves, possible glow worm still in season, cave swimming, south shore beaches...

Thanks so much! I see the Fairmont Southhampton, what's the other? Do they help with Kosher food? Also, once I'm using points, is there another non-brand name hotel worthwhile like The Reefs or Cambridge Beaches that I am seeing as popular?

Thanks again!

Last minute vacation for two. Doc didn't approve of most of my ideas in the greater US area other than Bermuda (Zika). Looks like they don't have any points hotels (yet). Is that correct? If so, I will probably splurge with CSR points on something nice as we don't go away for more than a night very often. What are some nice hotels ppl have experience with? Any good activities? Anyone have any good/bad experiences with food at a hotel?

Thanks!

Maybe wait for October, just in case?

Is there a good place in Boca to get takeout for Shabbos? Preferably one that delivers?

THanks

Has anyone heard of a story of someone who does "regular" all around banking--i.e. uses checkings/savings for ordinary deposits, withdrawals, maybe DD, uses CCs for regular spending--that has had their accounts closed? I have not, though I'm not saying it hasn't happened.

I just think it's a wild coincidence that the companies that are most "in need" of our business advice are the ones that make decisions that negatively affect ppl who have lots of points and don't spend lots of money ( e.g. lmost recently, Hyatt, AA, and el al).

Some of the hate could be from frustration because their point system is so bad and nobody can figure out how to game them like the other airlines

Exactly my point, thank you.

It's confusing to mix up this specific incident with the general dislike toward ElAl.
The parent-child analogy is obvious baloney because no (good) parent takes to the blogs to insult his child (see the OTD thread for more info). I love this blog and these forums but it's obvious that some people have a personal gripe/anger/frustration with the airline, that may or may not be rooted in good intentions, but the posts reflect accordingly.
There's the sugya of how to deal with large corporations who act against our own best wishes and another sugya of "hoche'ach tochia'ch" of how to tell off a fellow Jew for a misdeed. The two are obviously different, but can become confusing when we do this kind of stuff all day.
