Up In The Air / Re: United award flights
« on: March 18, 2020, 06:38:12 AM »
So if I have an award ticket for 4/30 from TLV to EWR, is the best thing to just hold it and hope they cancel the flight so I can avoid the redeposit fee?

Up In The Air / Re: TAP Portugal

That is helpful, thanks.
The reason Iím flying with them is not because theyíre cheaper, but because theyíre one of the only airlines that have connections from gatwick to TLV (easyjet is cutting the route at the end of March).
Iím assuming from the sarcastic answers that I asked a stupid question so I sincerely apologize for that :)
You can ask whatever you want but most most of your questions don't seem to have a relevant outcome.
Is the service good? If I say no, will you cancel your tickets and book something else?
How's the KSML? If I say lousy will you switch your choice to vegetarian?
If I tell you they are often late, will you arrive at the airport later?

See what I mean? You can ask whatever you want but people tend to identify more when they can understand the relevance of the questions.

I mean what standard of service do they provide? What airline would they compare to? How are their KSMLís?
I'm assuming you paid a super-premium price and so you want to know all that?
You buy the cheap tickets, say thank you to whatever they give you.

In any case I flew them in Business so I don't know if it really helps you but the service was the sort of decent but slightly falling short that you get on other European airlines, the food was unmemorable so I don't remember anything about it and our plane took off and landed an hour late.
Help you?

I forgot to mention, there is no business awards available on the Qantas site. Do I need to wait and see if  business becomes available or can I upgrade even if itís not available on their site?
Need to wait.

Up In The Air / TLV-JNB round trip $340 plus earn 10,000 miles!!!
« on: February 10, 2020, 06:56:25 PM »
Ethiopian Air is having a great deal on the TLV-JNB route. Prices start at $340 from now until at least September. Almost every date I checked had the deal!!!
You can use Google flights to find the fare and book with PL/Expedia/ (which seems to be $10 cheaper than the OTA's).

Here are a few things about the fare that make it a great deal
  • Short stopovers (1-2 hours)
    2 checked bags per ticket
    Meals included on all flights
Best of all: this books into "O" class that earns 100% miles on Aegean. With the miles from just this flight and the signup bonus of 1000 miles you end up with about 10,000 Aegean miles.

That means that if you book with UR points it would cost you only 23.5k points to fly round trip TLV-JNB with bags and meals AND you would get 10,000 Aegean miles.

That is a great deal!

This is why you should always buy travel insurance the moment you buy your tickets!
Most people don't realize that airlines do not have to refund the ticket even if you or a family member are sick and were hospitalized.
The only case where airlines refund is by a death of a close relative.

Regardless of the official rules, many times an airline will refund for sickness, especially with proper documentation such as hospitalization records, etc but it can be an arduous process.
