On The Road / Booking Boutique Hotels with points?
« on: May 02, 2018, 11:18:31 AM »
Is it possible?  I have MR, UR, and SPG.  I searched on Chase and the hotel I'm looking for didn't even show up but maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Hotel is called The Pillar Hotel in London (Golders Green area)

Anyone have experience flying with them?  Looking to fly EWR-LHR and they are the cheapest.

just because the system let it go through doesn't mean it was allowed. You still had to hide the fact that it was a gift card.
Debit cards with your name on it were allowed.

I never had to hide it.  How could I possibly hide the fact the I was purchasing $16k in MOs and was using 32 different cards?  Perhaps you are correct that there was no language that said GCs were spcifically allowed but since it didn't say they weren't allowed then officially they were.  Were there any DPs that people were denied using GCs prior to the memo?  At Walmart a manager can make whatever decision they want but the USPS is a Governmant agency so they follow strict policy.  They wouldn't tell you it's not allowed because there is no language stating such.

you implied that usps policy was to allow gift cards for MO purchases which is incorrect

Prior to the November memo was the official USPS policy to not accept GC for MO?

he knew what you meant by gc

Well then what was his question?  Did he think I said that the USPS currently allows GC for MO? Clearly this sentence - "USPS was easier because the policy was to allow it so I'd 10k+ in one trip but since they stopped allowing it I've had no issues at Giant." - was written in the past tense and acknowledges that they don't allow it anymore.  So if he wasn't asking about my use of gift card then what was the question?

i don't think USPS policy allows gift cards for MO

Obviously I'm not talking about store gift cards but the Visa/Mastercard Pin Enabled Gift Cards:

I guess I should have said Debit Cards.

In Maryland we have a chain of grocery stores called Giant.  There are 2 near me - 1 only allows cards with your name on it for MO but the other one lets me use gift cards.  I do it all the time.  The most I've done in a single purchase is 2k but they might allow more I just don't want to annoy them.  I just make trips on multiple days to get it done.  I've done as much as 10k in a week with no problem.  USPS was easier because the policy was to allow it so I'd 10k+ in one trip but since they stopped allowing it I've had no issues at Giant.

Applied for Chase Ink, didn't get approved right away, called and got denied.  I know all about HUCA but if I call again are there notes from the 1st call or any record that I called already and got denied?

Any reason to keep Amex Business gold after 1 year?  I also have Bus Platinum.  Are there options to downgrade gold to a free card that would be beneficial to keep?

Arriving in LAX from Australia around 6.30am. I have a separate onward Southwest flight around 2.30pm. Assuming I cannot interline my bags, is there any chance that Southwest will take my bags in the morning? Or do I really have to wait till 3 hours before?

I don't know about Southwest but I've done this with other airlines.  Once landed in Zurich at 8am had 10:30pm flight on a seperate ticket and was able to check my bags right away in the morning.
I'd wait for someone else to confirm that Southwest does this but I believe if the counter is open you can check your bags.

If I book Southwest tickets now for a flight in April using Southwest points on a Wanna Get Away ticket but then 2 days before the flight I decide to cancel - will the points get redeposited in my account or would they be lost?

Nice!!
Go for a third!!!
Now it'll definitely not be an extra pull.
2 cards with instant approval is great.
Oh well, didn't get approved.  Got:
We need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days.

I'll probably call.

You definitely can, not always so easy.
Definitely apply, as you like won't have another pull
Wow! Got approved for both!  I was gonna wait but took your advice.  Thanks!
