Up In The Air / SPG to USAirways bonus transfer
« on: July 02, 2014, 08:25:31 AM »

Now you can pick between USAirways and AA. It might be a little more lucrative of a transfer to go to USAirways.

Up In The Air / Convert hotel points to Avios for a bonus

I just got an email. Did everyone else, too?

Seems like a great way to use some recent Marriott and IHG sign-up bonuses.

Up In The Air / Unaccompanied Minor on Avios
« on: May 04, 2014, 06:42:01 PM »
I searched and couldn't find anything.

The best I can figure out to do is to book the tickets with the WRONG birthdates, then call the airline whose metal the minor is actually flying and changed the DOB and add the UM fee.

Will that work?

In my case, I am booking TWO UMs together. I would have to write both DOBs wrong.

Please advise quickly as I need to book these tickets ASAP. Thanks in advance!

Just Shmooze / Donald Sterling

Sterling insists hes not a racists. He says some of his best credit cards are black.
--Jimmy Kimmel

Now that you bring him up, man... that guy is cracked. Forget about him being a racist. That's just one manifestation of his looniness. It's mamash sad to see him operating all demented like that. I wonder with these billionaire guys who are stupid and/or crazy, how they managed to get rich. But becoming rich (besides for sometimes being just "luck") is a very specific kind of intelligence. One can be good that one thing and also be a shoitah in all other areas.

Just Shmooze / Kemach yoshon

In honor of parshas Emor, the current parsha:

"Until the day that you bring this sacrifice to your G-d, you may not eat bread, roasted grain or fresh grain. This shall be an eternal law for all generations, in all your dwelling places." (Vayikra 23:15)

I am not careful in yoshon and I don't plan to be. I could explain, and I think I will explain, but first, can we get a nice exciting DDF debate going? Anyone have any cool stories about yoshon? Interesting vertelach? Come at me, guys!

Don't forget to bake your shlissel challah on the shabbos after Pesach! It's a segulah for 4bms and other such awesomeness.

My only question... is it a challah with a key inside? Or a challah shaped like a key?

General Discussion / Ductless Air Conditioning
« on: April 24, 2014, 03:11:21 AM »
Since I was so blown away by the expertise that came forth on that "noisy basement" thread, I want to ask for help on what to look for when putting in ductless A/C. My house is old. I can't put in hvac without it costing k25. I want to use the mini-split systems that I have seen in use. Where do you get them? How do you put them in? What should I know.

I want to put them in on my first floor where I have three areas: my living room, dining room and kitchen.

If it works well, then maybe next summer I will do the bedrooms on the second floor.

Just Shmooze / What are you learning?
« on: March 06, 2014, 11:24:41 PM »
This is a thread to discuss what DDFers are learning. I will start... Likkutei Sichos chelek gimmel on parshas Vayikra. Why is an asham talui more expensive than an asham vadai?

He was a good Jew. I met him once. As one who made so many laugh, he is surely a ben olam habah.

Just Shmooze / Toilet paper tearing for nittel

It's no secret that DDFers are a competitive lot.

Who wants to post the number of toilet paper sections they have torn tonight? The race is on until chatzos!!!

Credit Cards / CVS having problems today activating VRs
« on: December 18, 2013, 06:48:58 PM »
I just bought two VRs at a CVS (in Florida.) I went to upload and got an error message. I called the 800 number and the system said that the cards with those PIN codes were activated improperly.

I finally got through to a rep who told me, "Man, CVS has been having problems all day long!" In the end, they took my name, address, and phone and gave me a "ticket number." Now I have to send in pictures of the receipt and the front and back of the card.

Anybody else have any experiences like this?

Credit Cards / Basic Instructions on Opening a Chase Checking Account
« on: November 19, 2013, 12:40:05 PM »
This thread is based on my having learned from Dan about the "Chase Trifecta" = Sapphire, Freedom, Chase checking account. I have two of the three and want to talk about the third.

We have no Chase banks branches in Pittsburgh where I live. HOWEVER... I am considering opening a Chase account next time I am in NY (which is a few times a month.) It will NOT be my main account so I do not think I will want to keep much money in there.

Can someone guide me how to best take advantage of opening a new Chase account if I am a brand new customer? I know about coupons and also about the added percentage to my Freedom rewards.

Can someone outline here how to maximize opening a new Chase checking account? Maybe it can be wikkified?

Just Shmooze / How to put sharp creases back in your tallis?
« on: September 22, 2013, 02:23:14 PM »
You guys on this forum are all pretty smart. So help me out.

I like my tallis to fold really flat. Right now though it folds puffy because the creases came out. How do I get back that flat, compact fold-up-like-a-box effect?
