Credit Cards / Amex Credit Bureau does NOT backdate AUs
« on: August 19, 2013, 04:33:32 PM »
Fellas, I just had a long talk w/ Amex Credit Bureau and received an education on how the backdating actually works.

The whole thing with getting added as an AU to an older account used to work. They stopped doing that in Nov of 2011. If you were added as an AU before that date, then your account will backdate to the primary. If you were added after Nov 2011, it does not work. You will have your own account opened date.

However, backdating is very helpful still in one way. ALL of your Amex personal cards will backdate to the date of your membership. I had a CS rep who swore up and down that it ain't so, but the Credit Bureau Dept at Amex told me that CS doesn't know what they talkin' 'bout. (Shocking, I know.) In my case, I have a 22 year old Green Card. This month I opened SPG and Delta Gold personal cards and they will both report as having been opened in my membership year of 1992.

If you are interested in a technicality, I will tell you that the MONTH of the newer account will show as the actual month that it was opened. The YEAR however will show as the membership year based on the oldest card.

Up In The Air / using USairways mileage for a one-way
« on: August 09, 2013, 11:04:11 AM »
I just had to do a last minute flight change. It cost me a lot of money.
I looked for the option of just buying a new 1-way instead of making a change to my RT but USAirways would only let me buy a whole new RT with miles. Am I correct that you can only buy RTs with miles on USAirways?

Credit Cards / Balance Transfers for Spending Thresholds
« on: July 12, 2013, 05:11:20 AM »
It is my understanding that a balance transfer TO a card does not count toward spending.
However, I am wondering if a balance transfer FROM a card counts as paying off the spending.

IOW, if I have three new cards from chase that have a collective spending threshold of 6,000, can I use the cards, run up a balancem then pay those cards OFF by transferring their balances to my new US Airways card that will give me points for BTs? This would kill two birds with one stone.

Up In The Air / Not using the return portion of a RT ticket
« on: July 10, 2013, 12:34:39 PM »
A few weeks ago, I paid for a RT ticket that was cheaper than the one-way, but I really only needed the one-way. What can I do with the unused part of the trip? It's on Delta and I have a Platinum Skymiles card if that means anything.

Credit Cards / poor debt to income ratio
« on: April 18, 2013, 02:23:00 AM »
I applied for the British Airways card from Chase and was denied. I got accepted that same day by Chase for a business Ink.

Seems that the problem is that I cannot get accepted for consumer cards because I have a mortgage (over 2k a month) that is taking up my whole income to debt ratio. I have no problem getting accepted for business cards, but what am I supposed to do about consumer cards?? The Chase rep told me today that there is nothing to even discuss since my income is low and my mortgage is high. She said it's due to some federal regulation passed in 2011.

How does one go about reconsideration in this case?

Other than doubling my income or selling my house, how should I deal with this problem in general?
